A sordid affair in Sin

Over the first 30 years of this govt, it has developed Singapore into a country that ticks. Press the button and the toilet will flush. Press the switch and the light comes on. Send you mail and it will reach the addressee without failed. Send a letter to a govt agency and it will respond dutifully. Apply for a flat or school admission for a child, it will be carefully considered. This is the kind of perfection, a system that works. It is 100% reliable, dependable and expectable. If a bill is sent to you demanding payment, you can expect the amount charged to be the amount due. No monkey business, no nonsense.

When someone sent out his resume to apply for a job, and when the reply came, ‘We regret that your application is unsuccessful. Thank you for your interest in our company,’ he can expect that due diligence and consideration have been taken to vet and check his suitability for the job. This is how reliable and trustworthy the Singapore system is. And the Sinkie will accept the rejection and that he is not qualified for the job.

When all the PMEs applied and had their applications rejected, they must have accepted the decisions believing that they were given a chance and considered for the positions but found unsuitable in a fair and equitable manner. Case closed and they moved on. And after several rejections they have resigned to become taxi drivers. Even when thousands of our PMEs are rejected, at times no reply which is as good as a rejection, even when thousands of fresh graduates also faced the same rejection, no one in his right mind will think that something fishy is happening.

Our reliable and trustworthy system is made for honest people. Such a system can only work when everyone is honest and will do their fair part. When you have dishonest people distorting the system, gaming the system wholesale, cheating, discriminating, no one will have a clue that they have been had and made a fool of. The Sinkie applicants would know that the foreigners have taken control and are fixing them up, people that don’t play fair, and when cheating is in their DNA. They would not expect their applications to be intercepted and thrown away.

In a way we have raised a people that is so honest, do not game the system, to the extent of being robotic or simplistic, but upright in every sense. They don’t stand a chance in a new world of crooks and cheats.

Have all our PMEs been cheated? How many areas and industries in our system have been compromised to disadvantage an honest and no cheating citizenry? Such a citizenry is helpless and needs help. They do not know how to fight back. The law does not encourage them to fight back or too slow to take actions. They expect the law to be on their side, not on the side of foreigners that cheat on them. Bu the law can do nothing until they cry foul, have evidence that they are cheated. But they don’t even know that they were cheated all this while. They can’t complain if they are ignorant of being cheated.

This is how pathetic we have become. An honest system for honest people now managed and run by cheated and dishonest people for all over the world. We were cheated by no talent people who faked themselves as talented people and made our talented people think and believe that they are no talent people. What the….. is happening?

Who shall we say a big thank you for this kindness and generosity? What is going on?

Chua Chin Leng aka redbean said...

Why no logic? You go into a ring to fight fair. The bastard spiked your drink before the fight.

How good you are will not matter. You got poisoned.

Our people believe in a fair system and play fair. Now you have these conmen, frauds and cheats in charge. Our talented don't even get pass the gate.

Of course they don't. They've become SO RELIANT on the government, they've not only quit thinking for themselves but acting in their own best interests.

Add to this, the fact that most people who come over to work are HIGHLY MOTIVATED -- which means many of them will "cut corners" when it comes to integrity and honesty.

If people are willing to cheat using fake qualifications, how far do you think they'd go to get what they want? IMO, they'd do whatever it takes short of murder to get theirs.

Furthermore, many of these "newcomers" come from cultures where honesty and integrity amongst the population are noticeably absent.

Singapore, now would be the time to develop some street-smarts and the ability top think critically and skeptically.

If they are put I position that can do that you can be sure they would, just look at the MacDonald's in Sin, all have pinoys at the helm managing the outlets, while the sinkies are the workers, I happen to sit through a interview while there and heard what was said, sinkies don't stand a chance when in come to promotion, period.

The problem is not that about the weeds nor about the spike drinks, we just dun stand together, we, too can become the weeds and we too can spike the drinks but years of fear and being goody goody has made us weak disregarding the facts and logic and still flocking to the 60%, more and more old farts like us opt to die rather than be a burden, I would too, when my time comes.

What would you do RB?.
yesterday and today Kopi kau kau to you.

Anon 11:28, we need not become weeds. We can still maintain an honest system if we remain the boss and call the shot.

Our problem is that the head is rotting. If we maintain control and in charge, like the Arabs and Malaysians, no one can monkey around with you.

Bo cheng hu? We have become a cowboy town. And Matilah likes it. This is irresponsibility at the highest level. We have dismantled our honest system of meritocracy to allow cheats to eat us up for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

It's not a matter of "like". My personal preferences don't mean shit lah.

"Bo Cheng Hu" in Singapore's case is good, because the current cheng hu has dropped the ball. So suggest CHAOS -- disorder, increasing in intensity.

However if you have a little understanding of non-linear, dynamic, chaotic systems, you will know that they are deterministic i.e. over time some form of "order" will evolve.

I support chaos. Singapore must experience a chaos of upheaval. That is the next stage. Actually, it is INEVITABLE.

Please don't believe me. Just you wait -- you'll be experiencing it for yourself :-)))

Rb, actually cheaper for govt to expand the taxi school instead of uni places but then if that is so many FT professors would be out of work so can not right.

As for virgo49, no need to buy your daughter lollipop lar, I am sure matilar will offer his for free

Everywhere is the same. It is a dog eats dog world out there. Systems are all man made and thus imperfect. People must learn to make use of the weakness of the system and profit from it. Just like pap make use of the sheepiness of the people and pay themselves millions in wages. Perhaps the FTs learnt it from our local ministers and thus they think it is a norm here.

'Our reliable and trustworthy system is made for honest people. '

- Are the transport and HDB system reliable and trustworthy ?
- Honest people are a very rare breed in this world. Everyone has their secret agenda.

You don't like dat lah. We have the most honest people in our leadership.

I only talk about issues and policies. I don't accuse anyone of misconduct or corruptions or open their cupboards to let the skeleton fall out.

Citizens have the right to talk about national affairs as this is their country. If the citizens are not concerned with the well being of their country then it is a matter of time before the country is sold or robbed without them knowing when a rogue govt is in power.

The citizens must take a special interest in national affair. It affects them and their children and grandchildren.

Stupid First Generation Sinkies still feel much beholdened
They are unable to link the Present to the Past like they think the Chick got nothing to do with the Egg it hatched from
Matilah Singapura knows better. That's why he never fails to find Sinkies responsible for having the Rulers today. Sinkies were either blind or bought over in the earlier years and many remain stuck in the Past.
