The people are listening, is the govt listening?

More than 170 comments were made in a thread on Hsien Loong’s NDR speech. And there were more than one such thread discussing his speech. It only says that many Singaporeans are listening to him and wanting to know what is he going to do to improve their lives. The govt cannot dismiss the people as not interested in the affairs of the state or not willing to listen to the govt. it is a good sign, but would it be a wasted opportunity. When the people are listening, there is hope. The bad part will be when the people stops listening to the govt, switching off the TV when Hsien Loong speaks to the people.

The people are listening. The people are willing to listen. Is the govt listening to the people? Or is the govt still adopting the deaf frog attitude, or acting as half deaf, selective listening, listening to what it wants to listen?
There were tweaks on the CPF. How many of the tweaks are addressing to the problems the people have raised through Roy Ngerng and his crusaders? Shall the people thank Roy and his fellow men or to thank Hsien Loong and his wise men for the tweaks?

It would be such a waste when so many non believers are listening and could not be convinced. But it is also a fact that today’s non believers are not daft and could not be easily convinced. You really need convincing arguments and truths to win them over.

Were the tweaks on the CPF enough to win some of the critics over to the side of the PAP? Were the Pioneer Package and the CHAS card good enough? Some think the formula of discounts and subsidies has lost its meaning when the prices of goods and services have been raised so many times and a little discount is actually meaningless, a case of LPPL or worse. So, would this NDR make any real difference to the fate of the Party in the next GE? Has it narrow down the divide of a fractious family?

Kopi Level - Blue. Thank you.

True. Government must learn to listen to the people. If there is a good idea, go ahead and use it but do acknowledge the source. It is an honourable thing for anyone to do, even the PM.

You expect the "parent" to listen to us????

RB

No, only when the strongest Sinkie opposition party leader announce his party is ready to contest 100% seats, only then will the fate of the PAP change. In other words, only when another party emerged which is on par with or better than PAP.

If not, NDR speech or not, the fate of PAP next GE will have a 93% chance of being the same as in 2011, as decided by the 60%.

Well done, hsien loong aka son of god, old fart kuan yew.... u on the right track, keep it up

Ignore daft on the internet, unless bum

U need to bring more ft to purify the gene here

Can u bring more Jewish women here, propagate the Jews. Your pseudo Jewish blood are shitty.

60% Sinkies are very scared if the Sinkie opposition become govt, something will happen like what happened now in a state in Matland.

And what's more, the Sinkie opposition, unlike in Matland, is not even ready to be govt.

So things may be even worse in Sinkieland if PAP is voted out, or rather accidentally voted out.

Anon 9:18 am

Maybe it will happen on Nomination Day? Maybe by Ah Hia, Ah Ko or by whichever talented and brave Sinkie?

Because even if really ready now, announce it so soon is not good strategy, tio bo?

Because u never know how PAP will react to it.

I do not listen to the PM's rally speech; what is there to listen??? When I was a small boy my mother gave me 10 cents every day. Now I am a retired old man, the CPF gives me $300 every month. Can you see the utter madness of that?

The money came from my mother, I was a small boy, nothing wrong with that. My CPF money is my money, it doesn't belong to CPF. And, And, And CPF is not my mother! And I am fully adult, helped built the nation, how disgraceful to disburse my own money back to me the way a mother gives her young child!

On the one hand, they exhort citizens to excel, then when we have excelled and retired, they treat us like small child? I hate to call them liars, they like to sue, but surely something is not right? Watching us excel, build the nation, then keeping our money, paying out $300 per month - how do you explain that?

What is there to listen? The more we listen, the more we hear lies.

/// More than 170 comments were made in a thread on Hsien Loong’s NDR speech. ///

That means only more than 170 (200, 300, 400?) are listening.

If the people are listening, then mission accomplished - no need for the government to listen.

PAP will win the next GE. That is the foregone conclusion. Without the PAP government Singapore will go down the longkang without a doubt. Whatever happens between now and GE day will make no difference. Those who hope for any other outcome will be sadly disappointed. At this moment the PAP is the best for Singapore. The oppositions are fragmented and without any strong and capable candidates. The PAP policies are to make sure Singapore grow in status and also economically. To be economically superior above all else is the primary goal of the PAP government. The government believes that through GDP growth only will Singapore be able to maintain her status. The plight of a few Singaporeans can be easily sacrificed for the good of the country. CPF is a minor issue. There are more important policies the PAP government has to implement to achieve it goal. Importation of FTs from foreign countries such as India and China as a must. This policy serves 2 purposes. The first is to grow Singapore economically. Singaporeans are not capable enough to do this. Secondly, these FTs from China or India might decide to stay and make their homes here thus increasing the population in years to come.

This is the scenario now and for the foreseeable future. Live with it. The next GE will not change anything.

"Without the PAP government Singapore will go down the longkang without a doubt."
ANSWER:
Without Singaporeans subsidizing PAP policies (eg NS and CPF)... it is the PAP that will go down the longkang.

"Whatever happens between now and GE day will make no difference."
ANSWER:
I certainly hope PAPigs believe this statement and act accordingly.

"At this moment the PAP is the best for Singapore."
ANSWER:
Not anymore. PAP's policies do not benefit Singaporeans. PAP's policies only looks after the Singapore Reserves ... but does not look after Singaporeans.

"The oppositions are fragmented and without any strong and capable candidates."
ANSWER:
Does not matter anymore. I will still vote Opposition even if it's a monkey.
Just like PAP will always have a backdoor candidate even if it's only Ms Rin Tin Tin.

"The PAP policies are to make sure Singapore grow in status and also economically."
ANSWER:
I agree. PAP's policies benefits the Singapore Reserves but does not benefit Singaporeans.

"CPF is a minor issue."
ANSWER:
I certainly hope all PAPigs think so too.

Matilah, I agree with you wholeheartedly. Singaporeans are every bit the way you say they are. Their kiasu and kiasi mentality is world renown and in many ways they are their own worst enemy. Jealousy is very predominant in the Singaporean culture. When there is anything free or cheap they queue or when they see their friends, neighbours or even relatives go one up on them they either bitch and backstab or they will speculate that something fishy is going on. I have never met a Singaporean who has anything good to say about another human being. What a load of sad people.

The PAP government certainly has an Entitlement Mentality.
Entitled to free labour through National Service.
Entitled to free use of Singaporeans' money through CPF.
Entitled to charge ERP all over the island.
and etc.

In case you haven't notice, with the CURRENT PAP government, Singapore has already gone down the longkang.

Train, breakdowns, delays, overcrowding. Bus strikes. Riots. Woefully inadequate number of hospital beds. 50-year floods that occurred every 50 weeks. Corrupt senior government servants, and corrupt chiefs of SCDF and CNB.

all politicians and their masters are satan advocates. they all aim to make themselves rich at the expense of the people. the option for the people is either to join them and get rich and be evil OR to stay poor and complain. welcome to the world.

I want this!" "I want that!"

- btw, that is human nature and how human evolved. all humans have wants besides needs. if any politicians cannot deal with this mentality, they can quit, pack bags and stay home.

Only politicians can have wants. The people cannot have or they will be accused of being too demanding.

I am sure no average Sinkie is asking for a million. Sinkies who asked for a million are exceptional and will not be known as demanding.

Their fate has and had been finally fixed by the CPF issue.

PAP has advanced in status and acceptability after the tweaks and adjustment to the CPF.

Good job PAP. Next GE will see a 75% / 25% divide. Well done LHL and all PAP MPs.
