When kindness received a tight slap

Statestimesreview reported this.

'According to reporters from Chinese papers Lian He Zao Bao, two N-level students from Juying Secondary School were not allowed to receive their official certificates because they owed school fees. The two Normal Technical-stream students with extreme poverty family background each owed the school S$540 and S$1,696, and only received their exam transcripts during the release of N-level results yesterday (Dec 19).

It is understood the two poor students were embarrassingly shamed by the school when their fellow school mates heard of the real reason why they were the only ones not given their N-level certificates.
An anonymous part-time teacher was enraged by the school’s mercenary actions and immediately went around the school collecting donations to crowd fund the amount to pay the school. The anonymous part-time teacher raised the full amount in less than a day, but the school refused to take the donation money – embarrassing the two poor students who were eagerly wanted their certificates back to join in the celebration with their friends.

The school then forced the parents of the students to meet, and discussed options to recover the school fees before finally returning their N-level certificates.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Education (MOE) did not deny the incident and only repeated himself saying the government has a lot of financial assistance plans to assist local students.'

How heartless and unkind can these people be? Instead of offering full assistance and showing kindness, they did not care how the two students felt but about the few hundred dollars they owed in school fees. This is so shameful! I can't believe there are so heartless and callous people responsible for education and educating our young.

No amount of financial assistance schemes could wipe away the shame and pain of the students affected in this episode. The people that subject the students to such embarrassment should be sacked. For those meagre some of money, it needed a part time teacher to take the initiative to help the two students. Are the full time teachers that poor, totally out of wits, dunno what to do?

This is how bad some people in this silly island have become, bullying and shaming the down and out instead of giving them a helping hand. But when it comes to Christmas, they were throwing money around to many that don't need it. Charity only happened in Christmas time.

Not to worry. With GST increases coming, more help for the poor is on the way.

Just remember, people who feel so rich said that GST is to help the poor! More GST, more help for the poor.

The school has no rights to disclose the owing of school fees to other students. The admin staff should be sacked.

This case can be solved if the part time teacher asked the students parents to go to school. The teacher passes the money to the parents to deal with the school admin.

The matter is between the school parents and the admin. If the teacher pays on behalf of the students with the parents consent, the school could end up with more problems.

This case put the school at receiving end because once the certificates are released, that s the last day of the student with the school. The school will face negligence in debt collection. The term is not free education.

It is different from one student being paraded to the peers with 2 police cars and 5 adults. The adults went to the principal to make sounded.

The the school made the stinging cancelling the student s committed camping on following week which the student had already prepared. In this case, the school was involved in shaming student who was never proved to have committed a crime. That is sinkieland s legal system.

Some cases with victims bone broken by force leading to victim s suicide death was unable to bring the criminal to intentionally causing the victim to death. Some cases scammed over 50 millions only get few years of prisons. Some cases with under age kids was shamed to suicide without first attendance in court. Sinkieland s legal system and punishment may be differentiated by pockets. If the criminal is rich and w lawyer ready to step in, the victim will not be badly treated. If the victim is poor, the handling is often messy, like in this school s handling of poverty students. if their anuntie or uncle is lawyer, the school might stay on correct path not announcing the real reason: it was negligence and not acting in good faith to shame the innocent students who had no part to the case. The parents are responsible.

/// The anonymous part-time teacher raised the full amount in less than a day, but the school refused to take the donation money ///

Is it true?
Not only must the debt be paid;
- the money must come from the "correct" sources
- and be done in the "correct" way

Is this why this teacher is a part-timer?
If he/she knows how to behave properly ... she would already be a full-time teacher.

Is it a surprise that all the full time teachers just keep quiet during the 10 years the school fees remain unpaid?

Is it also true (and a surprise) that all the full time SMRT management remained silent when Saw Phaik Hwa could perhaps have done more preventive maintenance during her CEO tenure?

Like all civil servants this principal and the teachers are well paid but they have a cold cold heart which they assimilate from the examples of the rich ruling politicians. Blame the system, the bad governance of the state where the ministers pay themselves with sinful salaries, big bonuses and high perts but show no compassion for the poor and underpriviledged because they inherently have a cold cold heart in their attitude towards the poor.

Is it true?
Is it very easy to get financial assistance from the PAP government?

Is it true?
When you are poor, you are very free to visit the school using our very reliable MRT trains ... any time over the last 10 years?

Is it true?
When your students have not paid their school fees for the last 10 years ... you do not have the responsibility or time to find out why?

Dear 70% Singaporeans.
You voted for this.
You are ultimately responsible.

This kind of threat of holding back certificates is just one of many other ways students have been forced by teachers to support programs, like overseas 'study trips'.

I personally knew of cases where students have been coerced to take part in overseas trips by teachers, who told them they cannot graduate if they do not participate in the one or two weeks overseas stint. Students of poor parents have to find ways and means to enable their kids to follow, in order not to embarass them.

The usual response is that there are so many financial schemes to help. Really?

Stop khooning and keep thinking this is a compassionate society.
Shaming on the poor and less privilege is a norm and nothing unusual here.
Cannot blame the principal.Blame who then?
It's their PG parents that is to be blame for not educating them well.
These PG parents never taught them about being compassionate, only taught them how to earn more money,by whatever means.
Yes.Confirm.PGs fault.Blame their parents.

The current system only benefit the capitalist PAP elite and their cronies; the wealth gap one of the widest in the world, with many ever-increasing taxes to pay.

RB

Because these people is confident that PAP will still win big the next election despite they (these people) being heartless and unkind.

And I fully share their confidence that PAP will win big the next election.

Only two students?

That shows that the very poor are a minority, or rather a minority of the minority.

Majority are still OK, despite the high cost of living, jobs lost to foreigners and NS for Sinkies, etc etc.

This one PAP knows. That's why no smart and serious Sinkie will want to contest as opposition in elections because 93% chance sure lose one. Or maybe even 100% chance sure lose, if the 3 WP MPs were to lose their $22 million suit due to ownself Town Council sue ownself MP.

THe school system under pap has the most despicable teachers that destroyed the lives of many good students. They care only for themselves and make everything difficult to good students so that their own kids can go universities.

The SIN-gap-ore education system is not an Education System but an Indoctrination and Subservient-Mind Training System to prepare and mould young kids to become robotic, obedient, fear-induced (kiasu and kiasi) dependent voters.

Since the military took over as pm and education minister, the whole "education" system had been revamped to become military-like, having ranking system embedded to appraise the teachers. As such, both the principals and teachers become self-protective of their own rice bowls. Their hearts for compassion become hearts for promotion, their brains for thinking become brains for rigidly following regulations, and their intuition to take positive initiative becomes instinct for organizational security and for personal survival.

This is the backdrop by which the 'system' has been operateing over the last 25 years.

Under LHL the teaching profession and the Civil Service have become a balls-carrying self-preservation robotic creatures devoid of human decency, ethics and morals.

Dishonorable son, as head for so many years, what can we expect?
Down the line;
Dishonorable HuleeJinx, wifie.
Dishonorable ministers.
Dishonorable paper generals.
Dishonorable civil servants.
Monkey see, monkey do phenomenon.
Especially true when they are fed with public money, golden peanuts.
The cancer has spread everywhere. Dont you notice even the few among them without cancer only spoke up after they retired.

We need to urgently inculcate Confucianism in our schools and in our civil service. Too extreme capitalism is immoral and evil, lacking in compassion and destroying the social fabric of Singapore.

Anonymous said...

Who will do the inculcating? The Dishourable Son? The Follow-the-Leeder Paper Generals? The Ministry of Experimentation (MOE)? The other sycophantic devoid-of-conscion Multi-Million aire Minions? The robotic regulation-engrained balls-carrying cowardlt civil servants?
Or the puppet fake Not-My-President president? Or the prapagand and brain-washing machine called the SPH and its news outlets?

Indoctrination takes place at every level - from a 3 year old child to primary and secondary pupils, from College and Polytechnic students to NS soldiers, from University graduates to old folks.

Children from the age of 3, enter PAP-cumn-NTUC monopolistic indoctrination Childcare Centres are being inculcated with pro-PAP brain-dulling and fear-induced behaviour and character-building.

So, where got hope? The only way is to totally REVAMP the whole SYSTEM. The only way to revamp the whole system is to change government. The only way to change government is to voye for a new government. Will this ever happen? Only God knows!

Merry X'mas (not Christmas).

Need a full time education minister to take care of kindness and welfare of students.

In sinkieland got kindness to animals and foreigners but not to students and PMETs.
