If looks can heal
I saw this beautiful structure in the Sunday Times this morning. A lot of glass, reminding me of the futuristic glass complex proposal for the Sentosa Casino. Very impressive looking building. This one is actually an artist's impression of the New National Heart Centre. It boasts of great facilities when ready in 2013.
What keeps capturing my attention is the fine architecture and the feeling of being in a futuristic and well designed building. It is a great feeling. I think the patients would feel good too, and their hearts will feel better even before any medical treatment.
I hope the building design was selected not just on good look but with cost consideration in mind. Otherwise, the cost of building such a great facility will ultimately be carried by the patients' bills.
Nice building, and I already have this good sense of well being.

What you saw is the hardware. The software should be compatible. I dunno really. With so many medical talents with half past six credentials flooding in, I doubt we will be getting the best in the field when our cardio system misbehaves.
Walk into any hospital clinic nowadays and you may be forgiven if you think you are in Mumbai, Manila or Shanghai.
Something is very wrong when all our Singapore doctors are opening clinics around the neighbourhood sometimes with hardly any patients while foreign talents are manning the hospitals.

hi wally, the influx of foreign talents and the suspicion of their qualifications and training is one issue, my concern is to put too much in hardware and raise the cost in doing so.
Yes, who pays for the hardware eventually? They have to recover the cost, somehow.
I do not, for a moment, think heart patients will feel good in that impressive looking hospital, given their condition in the first place.
On the ontrary, I hope patients don't die of heart attacks when they see their bills.

Stat boards and GLCs can have as much money as they want.
Don't rock the boat redbean. The mandarins and feudal lords might have their feelings hurt.
no lah, i am not rocking the boat. i am swimming in the sea below waiting for the sewage door to open or for crumbs to drop over board.

Hey man, that is "elite" sewage you're talking about. It could have many magical properties!
