Productivity would increase if supertalents are engaged in productive work in the private sector

For several decades, the crème ala crème of little Red Dot were given scholarships to be educated in the best universities around the world only to return to be employed in unproductive works, mostly administrative and policy making and in devising clever schemes to tax the people. What would it be like if these talents are released into the private sector instead, in manufacturing, in engineering, in financial services etc etc instead of becoming top civil servants and politicians?

The sinking feelings in the industries, in manufacturing are ringing loudly in the ears of many when productivity is at rock bottom, also thanks to the influx of dubious foreign talents into the island. Fortunately or unfortunately, the industries are supported and saved by the less talented, academically. What happened to the once very productive Singapore with the best workers in the region? When suddenly all are duds, unproductive and practically useless, only good enough to drive taxis and be security guards? Even first class honours from NUS are booted out by dubious foreigner with likely fake degrees and credentials. And these foreigners mostly came from sick countries and sick economies.

If only there is a change in policies to redeploy the best brains and talents in productive works, in the industries, things would likely change for the better, and productivity must go up instead of down and down. No? I stand corrected on this as some may continue to resort to sophistry to con their way instead of working and being productive. The only difference is that in the real economy, they do not have the political power to shaft shit into the people’s throat. Any incompetence would not last another day.

Or at least the high million dollar salaries of these super talents would be paid by the private sector, by their organizations, instead of the public services and the govt having to tax and tax and raising taxes in every opportunity to feed these million dollar gang of super talents. If their average salary is $1m, and if there are 3,000 of them, that would be $3b annually. How to find such money, how to earn such money from profits in services like MRT and bus fares and selling products? You need to earn $1 from 1 million trips to get $1m to pay a million dollar man.

When the best brains are not in productive businesses but in unproductive public service, how can productivity go up?

What do you think?

PS. The weaknesses of the mandarin system would be exposed, especially in the dying days of a dynasty when instead of working for the people, it is all about self aggrandizement and self interest. It will snowball into dreaded case of 发 财above everything else. How many more millions would be enough?

Mr RB, the best brains just wanted to be Eunuchs to the Emperor.

..uncle RB, in Sinkieland gone r the days of Productivity in the name of economic growth at all costs. The present Ah Long administration only wants economy up & therefore productivity is of low priority ( if me no wrong), the white toilet paper of 6.9 m people tells alot bout Ah Long mentality - he wants monies at all costs! What's wrong with collecting more monies? What's wrong with collecting more taxes? As for scholars r only Ah Long cronies trained to be his kaki Lang collecting monies for him & in return these scholars r handsomely rewarded to keep their mouth shut, in actual fact when they r deployed to private sectors most wouldn't make it ( eg Demon Quak, Ng Ah Cun etc..) in fact many private corporations would fall when these garmen paper general take over cos their strategy r all 纸上谈兵 & of no practical values at all only 70% dafts Sinkies think they r talented & were all conned by the whites men or women with wolves in sheep clothes..

Yes! Good suggestion!

There should be a change in policies to redeploy the best brains
and talents to the pte sectors, especially the SMEs.

This is the only way to move singapore ahead.

No point to keep them in the govt svc.

With some of the not so talented in the industries doing so well, can't imagine how well the industries would be if the super talents are deployed into the industries. Hahahahaha.

Silver Serpents, good times, bad times also got bonuses.

Now some more pian chance in being incompetent not doing what they supposed to do.

Why so stupid work your butts out and bring in the dough for them to anyhow spend the dough.

Taxes up for them to please the silver serpents so that they can whipped the public into obedience.

This pool of "talents" is growing bigger and bigger without you knowing. The real truth that the pap garmen extending the retirement age is not to benefit the PGs but more to feed these group legitimately.
The fact that the size could be so big that 3b is not sufficient to maintain them.
Why are these talents not being stopped from feeding on our tax monies when they reach 55 as they would have already made more than 100 times of the full retirement sum?

One very big reason why taxes have to be increased yearly is because the bureaucrats' salaries have yearly increment.

The more years they work in the bureaucracy, the bigger will be their annual salaries, and therefore the more Sinkies will have to be taxed.

"What's wrong with collecting more money?" - LKY.

SMRT will be making an extra profit of at least S$10 million from unfortunate commuters caught in trains' stopages through paid train-replacement buses.

Government-owned public transport operator SMRT announced in a press release yesterday (Nov 27) that there will be no free train-replacement buses and that Singaporeans have to pay for shuttle bus services due to the closure of 19 MRT stations.

Singaporeans will also have to pay train fares for the slower shuttle bus services and longer waiting delays.

The rot started with LKY in the mid-1970s when he decided to increase his salary from 10X average Sinkie salary to 30X average Sinkie salary. (Today it's at about 60X-70X average Sinkie pay.) His avariceness & belief that he & his cronies are special breed way beyond normal humans culminated in the mid-to-late 1980s purges of the Old Guard from the top ruling positions of S'pore. Many of the Old Guard had become uneasy with LKY thinking & methods by the late-1970s and early-1980s.

In response to a threat to “whack” him, the crown prince of Johore, Tunku Ismail, rebuked Minister Nazri, and the Malaysian government, on 15 June, on his Facebook page:

MESSAGE FOR MALAYSIANS

Of late, I just voiced out my opinion and a reminder that people who has [sic] been entrusted with the responsibility to not blame the people for losing trust and confidence in them, but think of why the people no longer have the confidence and trust in them.

Apparently my gentle reminder has been met with a rather hostile response from a minister.

If I got such a reply, then what chances does the rest of the rakyat [people] have?

You are a minister, not a God from the heavens who lord above everybody. Do not think the people of this country exist to provide you with position and wealth, but the position exists for you to serve the people. When I voice out, I do it as the leader of my rakyat, on behalf of Johoreans and Malaysians. All I did is to remind the leaders of the country that they have a responsibility to serve the people, and for this, I am attacked.

In the new world order, I envision a future that every person has a right to voice their opinions. However, that is not the case in Malaysia today, where ministers think they are untouchable. I am willing to be cursed for standing up for what is right, rather than be loved for defending what is wrong.

I am not a politician. I am only answerable to Allah, my Sultan and the people of Johor. I do not do the bidding of some puppet-master who pulls the strings. Johor only has place for those who want to serve the people, not for those who want to garner votes for their own interests.

There will come a time, when the Johorean people must decide what is best for us and our future generations. Decide and unite we will, as Bangsa Johor, to forge our future. United we stand strong, divided we fall. I stand for my rakyat, not to joust for power, not to topple the government, but to ensure the well-being of my people.

I never told anybody to step down or resign, only to remind politicians of their roles and responsibilities. If you cannot deal with that, it just shows your arrogance to the people.

Alhamdulillah, I have been blessed with a comfortable life, and I can just live my own life and be oblivious to the worries of my people, but here I am, standing firm by their side. So for those wanting to tarnish my image and make me public enemy number one, the people are smarter than that, and they can think for themselves.

Do not use me to divert the attention from national issues. This country needs politicians who are clean and transparent, who carry out their duties with sincerity and integrity.

-HRH Brigadier General Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, The Crown Prince of Johor.

All political hacks only care for their own selfish interests - power, position and money. And because they need votes to get to their positions, they con the voters into believing that they are serving the people. In reality, they want the people to serve them, protect them, open doors for them, provide red carpets and praise them, and kowtow to them.

You can find them in every country - irrespective of whatever political systems. From Super-Power USA to Little USAs.

This the truth. Main reason causing low productivity is one untruthful unsustainable lie called "talent". LKY introduced someone from Halfvolt custom made in sinkie army general as good catch on talent. From public sector moved to private sector, there was no evidence he did well. He did not survive a given job as principal of a school on sunnyland.
What talent can do wander? Now sinkies would realize that hardworking chaps can only do productive jobs. No body else.

What talent means in private sector? A ceo can increase sales and control/reduce cost, especially product cost is the real talent. A ceo can create new products to sell in the market and sustain the sales revenue, is a talent. Can the army general do in private sector?

Once started off with good life, well treated from recruits to commissioned officer, the ability to do good jobs becomes truncated. There is no need to motivate oneself to do well once sitting on high political job or civil service or glc. Just sign the signatures, ask the advisors to speed proposals, and tell lower lines want this done. Ok liao. can go traveling. Cannot work must say good words about the results or quietly take it away. Crash can call it "in contact", flood can call it "ponding", dead in accident can open press conference say "safety" was complied. The main media will inform the public. Boh tai chi. Not with the system, "isolated case" lah.

Productivity is another lie people used to divert question on pay increase. Some selected talents insisted productivity figure must reach +1 before cleaner can get $100pm increase from 700 or 800pm. Some proposed guards could take more than one buildings in one time span. Can do or not? No real trials in private sectors. Productivity figures seemed derived from total gdp divided by total population? or total working hours? or what? The sensible one is total out put in tonnage divided by total manhours. Who has that figure? So it is a lie of -1 or +1. Made no sense as a figure especially to cleaners. Why leh?
Cleaners only use brush to wash toilets. They have not formed a govt to control the population of dafts, how could they be responsible for the -1 or +1 national productivity figure?
Can cleaners improve productivity? Sure. the auantie will tell u: supply me the auto turning brush with x walts, sony brand hor, made in japan not made in singapore, toilets cleaning can go double fasterest.

Talents in old farts words are for drawing big money as goals. They are identified at a levels results to be gloom as pap members. The goals big money want or not? Want sign there, army general rank is guaranteed, so do big money, but only those politically correct are awarded.

It is a self defeating trap by itself as a scheming. Watch the non talents in private sectors better. One created sound card and made it big. But very few can do the same thing like this chap. That time he was meddling with building own pc called cube. Now adays, only HP technology is useful while sinkieland still sell pc parts in electronic industries. It means the world has thrown the old fart s own built world 2 centuries away. What sinkie talents can catch up when the main market is not with sinkieland? eg when sinkie started innovation center in beijing, no news worthy in china or hk or taiwan media. It means no threat to them at all.

Sinkies are willing to catch up or still want to play with figures -1 or +1 to fool themselves, the motivation is important. If they want to catch up, they must not vote for the "talents" defined by old fart. They must vote for step on earth opposition politicians to do step by step catch up with the modern worlds like china, and not fake degrees holders from sunny land or the northern crooks. Sinkies will change when their pockets dry up by the "talents". May be 10 years time the change will take place. But the catch up will be hard to climb because KL will overtake sinkieland.

How nice if the super talents were to apply for jobs in the private sector and their resumes being thrown into the waste paper basket by the foreigner's owned recruitment agencies claiming that they have no relevant experience.

Unfit for employment except for part time jobs or contract work.

It would be tough to measure their contribution to justify the million dollar salary. How many of the public office jobs really deserved to be paid in the millions?

Do you think the idea is to distract the best brains in unproductive public service with high salaries so that the dumb Emperor looks smart and remains unchallenged?

Best brains? Everything being served on a platter like ahlong pm ship? Thats not called best but privileged.

Anyway, best brains no need to live off taxpayers monies. They should set up a company and be a boss like bill gates or mark zuck and employ many staff.

When you are in power, any shit coming out from your mouth is right. You can say black is white, idiots are talents, whatever. No one can challenge you.

Wait for the day when you lost power, then the table would be turned and black would be black and white would be white again.

That is what happened to many dictators, ended behind bars, dead or had to run away.

Redbean, you are spot on in this matter that is a basic cause of low productivity and decline of Singapore competitiveness. It's a tragic for Singapore.
The likely solutions as you proposed are:
1. Cut down the number of scholars dramatically. This will free up more to fish for themselves and build the necessary business & risk taking skills.
2. Cut down scholars taking the Army paper general route. Which has proven to produce inept yes-men.
3. Do not deploy any scholar to policy making unless they have at least 10 years of relevant experience within the particular industry. This will reduce rules & regulations that look good on paper but actually are impediments to progress, innovation & supportive of growth. In the 60s and 70s and early 80s scholars can be deployed to be making policies at young age because the industries were young and need basic policies. But at this current matured & complex stage, policies making are a lot more demanding and required much better ground experience and differentiation to be relevant contributor to productivity. Now we have over-regulation and too many unnecessary rules.
4. 50% of scholars should be deployed to the smallest subsidiaries of GLCs to run businesses and take risks. This will keep their learning costs low and promote entrepreneurship at a young age. The current entrenched approach with scholars sitting at the top without any risk taking experiences and pushing papers have resulted in so much financial losses when they are parachuted into big GLCs and SOEs. So expensive for Singapore.
5. The deployment of politicians & inexperienced scholars & related people in managing Singapore very significant national reserves has been a very costly experiment.
Hope the "rulers' do honest deep self-examination and turn.
MM Lee indeed had contributed much, nevertheless he had implemented some very flaw policies and put some wrong people in key positions.

"When the best brains are not in productive businesses but in unproductive public service, how can productivity go up? .."

The problem in Sinkieland is not the scholars per se but the system itself. To brand these scholars as talented is too simplistic. The deployment of these scholars base on their talents , skills & experiences to the respective govt agencies & glc pose a challenge to these scholars. Newly appointed scholars to various govt depts or glc will have problems working with their new subordinates or peers or bosses, that where EQ & that human relations & communication comes in. Some of these subordinates may not like scholars to be their bosses & got to kwai kwai give in to these scholars, some may resign or ask for transfer or remain in the system to play punk with these scholars bosses & becomes a 'deep seated cultural issues' in the company. Everywhere the scholars go they will be challenge & to win the hearts of new subordinates or peers r not ez task as some may take years but in corporations results can't wait & u see scholars bosses not meeting public or customers expectations but if scholars stayed on& nothing can change it's better for scholars to leave or transfer gracefully, sadly in Sinkieland some still cling on maybe because of monetary gain or maybe not allow a transfer or ask to hang on or whatever it is, it's a sad case of being scholars in a country like this ..
