After 3 days and an army of pest control workers, more than
140 rats were caught on the hillside beside Bukit Batok MRT station. And the
bad news, the problem is much bigger. Like many problems, only a little
surfaced at a time to deceive the unwary that all things are fine. No problem.
But the pest control workers are saying that it would take more than a week to
clear the rats as they are quite widespread throughout the hill. Hopefully they
are right. And hopefully this problem is an isolated problem like the rioting
in Little India. Clear the rats in Bukit Batok and there will be no more rats
problem.
Some were even suggesting that the rats problem is island
wide and in all colours, walking in two legs also got. I have used loanshark
country to describe what is happening to this Sin
City. And then lawlessness in the
shopping centres perpetuated by rogue retailers cheating on tourists and the
fly by night private school operators where the quality and reliability were in
doubts.
Now looks like we are going to earn another title like rats
country. The PAP used to be on top of rats problems in the past. They got rid
of the rats then. And the credit must go to their rats catcher, Fong Sip Chee.
He is famous for wearing that badge of honour.
Despite the hundreds of rats running wild in Bukit Batok,
and many resurfacing in other parts of the island, there is no self appointed
rat catcher around. We only have politicians claiming to be animal lovers and
maybe that is the problem. Rats are also animal and cannot be seen as rat
catcher to discredit the animal lover image. But all animals are equal except
some are more equal than others, and some walked on two legs.
With today’s new consciousness to love animals, there is
unlikely to be a rat catcher emerging. Cruelties to animals is not a good badge
to wear. And catching rats is not so glamorous anymore.

RB
But there is also no opposition party ready to be govt what. To PAP, I think that's what matters more. Some more rats also can't vote or join the Sinkie opposition, tio bo?
Only hundreds of rats and they are rattled.
Wait till the number gets to 6.9 million, or 10, or 20 million....
"The PAP used to be on top of the rats" - you mean that the rats are now on top?
Bukit Batok Bukit Batok !
Rat Rat Rat !
Bukit Batok Bukit Batok !
Rat Rat Rat !
Tan Cheng Bock's facebook comments on the MRT rats .... bottomline, once the MRT stations become rat infested, the rats will chew out the electrical wires.
--------------------------
" When l was studying the London Underground before we started building our MRT we were advised not have food on trains and that, there should be a buffer zone between food shops and the MRT stations. The no food and eating rule in the trains was instituted and no food shops were allowed close to the stations.
However overtime, policy changed and l can see food shops even close to the entrance to the stations. Bukit Batok is one example where food shops are very close to the stations.
Rats thrive on food waste so they tend to nest close to these outlets. They bred fast and grind their teeth on firm materials including our underground cables leading to short circuits and train disruptions in future. "

RATS...RATS...RATS...
RATS have became very famous.
It is talk of the town.
Everyone knows about it.
Everyone is talking about it.
Welcome to the world of RATS!
Cheers.
Under Non Traditional Medicine, RATS may have medicinal values to cure certain diseases.
B* can quickly conduct research and perform lab tests on possible medicinal values of RATS.
If there is medicinal valve.....
Huat Ah! Huat Ah! Huat Ah!
Under Non Traditional Medicine, PIGS may have NO medicinal values to fix any problems troubling Singaporeans.
Now, where is the PAP professional rat-catcher alias Major Fong Sip Chee?
Guys, this is just another once in 50 years event.
The next 'once in 50 years' blockbuster will be VTO. Just about the right time for celebrating 50th anniversary of the nation.
@ redbean:
Ah.. the feared and famouse rat catcher Fong Sip Chee. Wah, the guy was a legend lah. Among his many antics, he used to hound and harass contractors who he suspected of cheating and gaming the system. If you did business or organised anything, you'd better be clean, because the rat catcher will find out ;-)
Even the mighty JB Jeyaratnam was no match for this fucker--unpopular with many but also champion of the people. Cool guy, I liked him.
I also like the son Arthur--pro-business, anti-xenophobia guy, who understands finance and economics.
I have to agree with RB here: Singapore needs another good rat catcher, but I'll go further -- he or she needn't be anyone from the govt (legislature, judiciary) or the civil service. It could be a well-connected, well-resourced and fearless private citizen--like an Edward Snowden or Julian Assange.
Fong Sip Chee -- gone. Glen Knight -- as good as gone. A free cuntry of free people needs good stewardship by individuals ready to identify and weed out the VERMIN, or else the cuntry and its people won't be "free" for much longer.
Holy smoke, please don't ask the PAP to weed out the rats.
Their MPs were and are having a tough time busily ratting out the opposition over the last few decades. People like Francis Seow, Tang Liang Hong trusted their friendship with some PAP MPs and were ratted out by their so-called friends.
Sorry, no time for real rats. Ratting out humans is more lucrative for advancement.
Why are many keeping cat and dog but cannot toletate rat.Discrimination?
Ok.Even if there is a need to get rid of them
we need not spend unnecessary or spend so many days and risk the workers with possibility dengue risk.
We should be concern about human safety instead.
Simply put 500 mouse traps daily and can surely trap 200 each day.Trap can be reuse. You only need to risk 2 workers with protected suits to collect the rats each day.
Or put sticky glue around the premises though more costly.
Nong nong time ago i was a popular rat catcher as a boy in my sua teng.No need spent unnesessary like a phua kay.
Mai Khong Karm lah. There is no way to clear the rats.Bluff who?
Rats create jobs for the pest control industry. Can catch here and put elsewhere.Business forever on going so
Town council must witness and ensure all rat trapped are 'properly handled'.
Dun just pay and pay thinking problem can be solved.
Thankfully, it happened not in Hougang, Aljunied or Punggol East, otherwise you know lah!
The Four Legged Ones are actually less harmful and vicious than the TWO LEGGED ONES.

Q: What do you call the winner of the rat race?
A: A rat.
Ya just like some start cats and dods caught in one area then release into another so the people have repeated business
Ya just like some stray cats and dogs caught in one area then release into another so the people have repeated business
Agongkia, don't talk cock lar. Go hug your mei mei lar knn talking rubbish.
180 rats caught and now needs 3 weeks to clear.
Agongkia is right. Put a few traps or other devices. Why need an army to catch rats? It is all big busineses ya?
30 men a day or average 10 men daily, for 3 weeks at $100 each, easily will cost more than $20k, plus profit to the pest company, my estimate the whole op may cost $30k.
If 300 rats were caught at the end of the project, it will cost $300 per rat.
Alternatively put up a reward, $10 rats exchange and let the foreign workers have a go, the cost could be max $5000.
Only concern they could be more foreign workers on the hill catching rats than rats.
I thought this country belongs to everyone, including rats!
Maybe we can make this as a school project.Town council can buy 1000 mouse traps.
Get those constituency institution or schools to provide teenager students during this school holiday to place the traps and compete
One mouse 10 dollar to the student.
School that caught the most rats during this period will be further rewarded.
Student can make some pocket money and enjoy nature instead of hanging around at kopitiam or void deck .
Rat can be reduce.
A very meaningful school project that will be supported since parent of these students are mostly residents of the constituency.
Lesser rat mean more happier residents resulting in more votes.
No need spent unnecessary for contractors.Win win situation.
No need pay me 16k for such idea:-)
with so many "talents" from third world without proper toilets here, rats will be more and more common just like flooding or ponding. Diseases such as tb, dengue, malaria, rabies, chikungunya, leprosy will also be more and more common.
Exterminate all the Rats la, four legged and two legged All.
WE ARE NOT SICK WITH PLAGUE
BUT, WE ARE PLAGUE BY TWO LEGGED PESTS. CANT KEEP THEM AROUND TO HARM OUR WELLBEING ALL THE TIME.

RATS - Rulers Against True-blue Singaporeans.
Rats sightings are getting common. Rats can be spotted at gek poh eatery not far from the cc. Toh Guan road industrial side also got rats. Rats infestation is not isolated. Lets increase rats hazard awareness thus proving the media wrong by uploading rats' sighting near you.
