If tariffs are the cure all, every country should erect
tariffs to solve their economic problems. Why is Japan not doing it for
more than three decades struggling to put its economy on a firmer
footing. Abenomics was touted to be a game changer with three arrows
that missed their targets by a long shot. Kishidanomics was next to
suffer ignominy. Japan's new Prime Minister, Shigeru Ishida probably
will start with another new age 'nomics' to continue the saga. These are
all basically old stuff in new packaging.
China is now telling
its Chinese investors not to build factories in the USA. Malaysia is
benefiting now by working with China. Indonesia will also benefit
greatly if China were to pivot its investments to Indonesia. It is in
fact a no brainer to do so, with wages so low in Indonesia and cost of
production a fraction of that if Chinese companies were to invest in
Indonesia instead of the USA or EU. It is a win win situation now for
Malaysia and Indonesia.
Chinese investments in Vietnam and
Thailand are already well established and chugging along. Vietnam is
aware of who is buttering its bread and is joining BRICS for more trade
and investments from China. Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia
know that the geopolitical dynamics in ASEAN is moving towards BRICS,
not the G7, which is a dying horse.

Singapore cannot join BRICS, but no worries, can thrive in Commonwealth!
Groupings like the Commonwealth are one way for Singapore to strengthen its links with other nations, add value and maintain its relevance.
This is why Singapore continues to see the value in participating actively not just with the Commonwealth as a group, but also individually with the other 55 member states that make up the association, said Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on Oct 26.
The world has moved on, moving rapidly into the future. Who cares about a morbid club of has been colonised people still worshipping their has been overlord that is now heading into oblivion? Britain would soon be a third world country with nothing to offer except to sell the loots in the British museums back to the colonised countries to survive.
Looking at Charles who put a crown on his head and called himself king, is like walking back in time to a historical past, when time stood still. Only backward African states and the Pacific Islands would still be in awe looking at Charles, a piece of old furniture.

Malaysia’s membership in BRICS will open the door to unprecedented economic opportunities, potentially outpacing Singapore in key trade agreements and infrastructure development. Initiatives like the Belt and Road and a possible BRICS currency could challenge Singapore’s financial power. There are strategic advantages of Port Klang, and Malaysia could leverage new technologies and innovations through its BRICS connections, shifting the dynamics of Southeast Asian trade, and has significant implications for Singapore’s future as the financial heart of Asia.
Malaysia has a lot going for them to undercut Singapore.
Caveat, if only they don't change their laws like changing underwear, or inspect underwear when they feel like it. A good example is the Forest City fiasco and also the Port Klang flipping prata project. Oh, the East Coast highway and KL Singapore high speed rail project.
If the Malaysian government cannot be trusted to respect their contractual agreements and want to follow the Indian culture of suka suka changing contract terms, then not much future to go ahead. They may end up like India when China stopped all investments in India.
Not a few people have said that Malaysia joining BRICS is a nightmare for Singapore. This is just about Malaysia. There is Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam to consider. As the odd man out, think of the consequences.
As for the Commonwealth, just looking at Charles takes the cake for incompetence. His mother knows it well enough, and Charles only managing to inherit the crown upon her death, not on merit really. The Commonwealth is a common joke.
Singapore is surrounded by BRICS countries !
Singapore used to brag about its success for joining the winning side. Now that winning side is slipping down into the abyss. And so would Singapore.
BRICS is now growing to be the winning side. All the pretentious goodwill of the Americans and the Israelis are finished with their massacre of the Palestinians and Israelis reckless attacks on its neighbours.
The Americans are finished but they would drag the Europeans down with them. Israel's crime against humanity would not be forgiven. Israel is also finished, ie all three of Singapore's friends are finished.
Lawrence Wong is a new kid and does not have the historical baggage to be beholden to the Americans. Make sure not to visit Washington too often or they would find things to make him beholden to the Americans.
It would be easier for Lawrence to make the switch, slow and steady.
