Police officer beaten unconscious - Can you believe this?

On 23 February last year, at about 4am, Farhan, who was drunk, was having an argument with his wife at the void deck of Block 755 Jurong West Street 74 when a member of the public called the police over the commotion.

Four police officers, including Chong, were dispatched to the location, and they saw Farhan’s wife in tears. A female police officer was checking on the wife when Farhan became defensive. At this point, Fiqkri arrived and approached the officers aggressively, pointing his finger at the officers and demanding to know why they were questioning his brother.

Fiqkri asked Farhan and his wife to return to his unit and asked the police officers to “shut up”. Farhan left but verbally abused the female police officer first.
Brother did not "like" officer's face

Within minutes, Farhan returned and shouted that he did not like the faces of the officers. His twin asked Farhan whose face he did not like and Farhan gestured at Chong’s face.

Fiqkri turned to Chong and swung his fist at the officer’s face. Chong fell to the ground and Farhan joined him in assaulting the police officer. Farhan and Fiqkri rained punches and kicks on the officer, despite attempts by the other officers to restrain the brothers.

The brothers hurt another male officer, who was on reservist, during the struggle. Their violence prompted the female police officer to draw her baton and call for reinforcement. They finally managed to handcuff Fiqkri. Two other police officers arrived and handcuffed Farhan.

After Farhan was escorted into the police vehicle, he yelled and knocked his head on the window repeatedly. He then kicked the window three times, causing the right rear window to shatter. At that point in time, one officer was standing guard beside the right rear seat of the vehicle. The damage cost $201. Farhan has since made full restitution.

Chong was conveyed to hospital. His medical report, dated 9 March last year, stated that as a result for the attack, Chong slumped to the ground and briefly lost consciousness. He was diagnosed with abrasions over his eyelid, laceration over his ear, facial bruises, and a concussion. He was admitted for two days into the neurosurgery ward for monitoring.

Due to his traumatic head injury, Chong was given 29 days of hospitalisation leave. The other officer who was injured had bruises and abrasion over his head. Both officers' medical bills were covered by service insurance.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Chng Luey Chi sought a jail term of between 39 months and 4 weeks, and 39 months and 6 weeks, along with three strokes of the cane and a fine of $3,500 against Farhan....

The above is reported in Yahoo News. Dunno what to say. 4 police officers at the scene and this happened to one of the officers. I reserve my comments. I can only shake my head. Please be careful with your comments. This is just for information as it is already reported in Yahoo News.

The only thing that came to my mind is that in Singapore, if you are being attacked, run for your life, do not hit back. If in the act of self defence you hurt the poor assailant, you  could be in big trouble.

The next silly thing, oops, best thing, is to call the police for help and remain there to be beaten. Hope the beating would not be as severe as the above officer by time the police arrived, and you are still alive.

I am still puzzled why the other officers did not use their batons to stop the beating of their fellow officers. BTH.

If I was the officer who got beaten, I would have drawn my gun and shoot the assailant, not to kill but to stop him from further beating me, as self-defence.

Alternatively, I would have given the assailant a karate chop and a taekwondo kick and a Bruce Lee 4-Inch Punch.

I think our police officers must be trained in unarmed combat, judo and karate, taekwondo or Chinese Kungfu.

Why they never use their stun guns which they should be carrying on their body too?

There is a need to protect our men in blue. Feel very sorry for the injured officer.
If I were one of the officers, my baton would fly to save my comrade and to protect myself.

Why? Why? Why?

In the USA the police officers shoot first and talk later. Cowboy style lah!

How did the DPP arrive at 39 months 4 weeks is puzzling. 4 weeks equals one month right. Why not just say 40 months. Or is it between 39 months jail or just 4 weeks jail, which is ridiculous.

This particular unfortunate but preventable attack on police officers raised many questions and put the reputation of our Police Force at stake.

1. Why 4 police officers were not able to arrest the two brothers by themselves and needed reinforcements?

2. Every policeman on patrol is equipped with a gun, a stun gun, a baton, a knife, a whistle, a walkie-talkie and a mobile phone. Why were they not able to defend themselves?

3. 4 well-trained officers were unable to tackle one commoner. This raised the question on the quality and duration of training given by the Police Academy.

4. The incident happened last year. Why our champion Law and Homeland Security Minister keeping quiet all this while?

5. What are the Police Force and the Ministry of Home Affairs going to do about it? Just case closed and move on?

I suggest that the PMO direct an inquiry into the matter to ascertain the broader issue of the weaknesses in the Police Force.

Courage is very lacking. Very obvious.

What is the cause of this lack of courage and self-confidence?

Is it because of being intimidated by the superiors every day?

Is it because of too much dependence on high tech?

Is it because of our national kiasu and kiasi culture encouraged by the PAP leadership?

Someone decided to throw away the book on rugged society. Now it is nice nice society.

In the US, even the soldiers are afraid of their police officers.

What is happening here? Have they redefined what is a police officer?

In most countries, no one dares to touch a police officer. Even the thugs, the gangsters would not touch a police officer. They know that the whole police force would come after them if one of them is hurt.

It is a joke that ordinary citizens feel so unrestrained to think of beating up a police officer just because they did not like his face.

Why is this happening? Do the people feel so free and easy to hammer our law enforcing officer, our men in blue?

It is already bad for the public to tekan or abuse the social distancing officer. But to lose respect for the men in blue, to think it is okay to beat them up, something is very seriously wrong with our MHA. Hope there is some soul searching to redeem the role and respect of the men in blue and such disturbing incident would never happen again.

What is the message MHA is going to pass to the public? We are very nice, beat me if you can? We would not hit back or we will be charged for beating up a nice and friendly citizen?

Strange things happening in Red Dot. Soon, police officers will need public protection, as an alternative view.

As they pointed out in glaring messages on buses, bus captains need a safe environment to work in and you cannot harass them. So, police officers will also need a safe environment to work in and you cannot harass them too, and have to be protected too. A nanny state that has gone to the dogs I think.

If the Policemen cannot protect themselves, how can we rely on them to protect us?

How can Singapore's streets be safe any more?

Even policemen get beaten up nowadays. What can we expect next? Those hooligans will be beating up everyone whenever they don't like your face.

The Parliament must address this issue on an urgent basis.

Policemen to protect us or to protect the high and mighty? I think the latter.

When one gets assaulted and they tell you that unless the victim report it, they will not take any action against the perpetrators. Does that ring a bell?

If you kick a dog or a cat on the streets, they will prosecute you with months in jail. When I say our system has gone to the dogs, I mean it literally.

If the bums did not think of anything to beat up policemen, the people on the streets would be for fun.

The attack on the Police Officers had happened on 28 Feb 2020. It is now 16 Jun 2021. It is already more than one year ago. Why only reported now, and by Yahoo News. Not by the main media?

Was there a deliberate black-out ordered by the MHA to keep quiet about this shameful event?

Why didn't any Minister or MP bring up this matter in Parliament?

Is it because Indian beat Chinese, so it's okay? Keep quiet. But when a Chinese person did something to Indian, it is blown-up as racist or racism?

Something like that lah!

I think Singapore is going to the dogs and scoundrels. It is becoming clearer and clearer now. The real problem started more than 20 years ago, when Ministers decided to pay themselves by the $millions at taxpayers' expense, after their eyes turned red when they saw the National Reserve grown to unimaginable amount.

Anon 8:28pm is likely to be from the strawberry generation, cannot tell the difference between Malay and Indian.

When there is a Malay-Only President who was an Indian, how to differentiate between Malay and Indian?

May be you are the only one who can differentiate?

Usually Malay doesn't get drunk. However, it is very common to see Indian men getting drunk.

Mr redbean i was from the spf. We are all embrassed at the useless force now. Brain washed sinkies are blind. A few years back, a 26 year old drunk woman can injure a policeofficer, and there were 4 police officers at scene. Another man a skinny tutor can slam a woman officer unconscious. Then theres the airport incident where 6 to 7 officers cannot even arrest an aussie. We now have useless people serving the public. And i have found out why.

For no reason they have increased entry level qualifications. And this is the result, a pampered, useless generation joining the police. Expext it to get worse not better

For those that believe in training and all sorts of nonsense, if the person is raining blows on top of you, and you still dont have the balls to shoot him, of what use is such a person to the force? Or to the public? Please resign and step aside

I am just thinking.

Maybe, just maybe, the Ministry of Home Businesses is now trying to entertain the public by projecting the Police Force as a Joke and the Police Officers as punching bags for the public to let go their deep-rooted frustrations and pent-up feelings, especially so during the Economic Downturn and the Pandemic?

The public can't let go on the millionaire ministers and good-for-nothing whip-directed MPs, so they let go on the police officers?

If that is so, then we must thank the Minister in charge of Home Businesses for that.

I also think, just thinking, that all the problems happening to the Police Force for the last ten years are symptoms that some things are seriously wrong somewhere up the hierarchy of power. And one of the main contributing factors is having one Minister holding two senior ministerial posts, more specifically Home Affairs and Law.

A man, no matter how capable he may be, can never perform at his peak efficiency and effectiveness holding two important posts for a prolonged period. In this case, more than 10 years?

I am just thinking out loud. Forgive me if anyone feels offended, my apologies.
