USA vineyard owners are facing ruin

USA vineyard owners are facing ruin as grapes grown for wine making are left unharvested to rot in the fields. The era of hyping up the benefits of drinking red wine as beneficial to health is now wearing thin. The generation of wine drinkers over the last two decades have aged and are drinking less, while the younger generation are not picking up the habit. It spells the end of the wine drinking craze.

The other reason for the calamity befalling the USA vineyards is the competition posed by cheaper imported wines from the EU and even Australia. This is already an issue that the USA had with EU wines with a 25% tariff slapped on the EU. The USA wine producers, like in any other sector in the USA, is unable to compete and have to rely on tariffs to be erected to keep out the competition and keep themselves in ICU to stay alive. This is not a solution and is more like breeding a 'crutch mentality' that does nothing to make them find ways and means to compete. They just stagnate or die in years to come.

What about the China market for wine that had not been factored into the decline. China does have a wine market for the EU and also Australia. 1.4 billion Chinese is not a small market, even if not many are taking up the wine drinking habit. The forecast is that wine sales in China will grow going into the next couple of years. Of course, the USA wine makers cannot compete in China against cheaper wines from France, Spain or Australia.

Anyway, trade wars are easy to win with the use of tariffs. Let us hope the USA voters see the light in November, LOL.

PS. Wine from Latin America and South Africa are also biting into the American and EU share of the market.

Just wondering about the price of grapes that is now unthinkably cheap in Singapore. I understand grapes are even grown in South America, China, India, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar and I believe also in Malaysia. This is probably the reason for the competition forcing cheap grapes to be marketed here in Singapore.

So, how do grapes from USA and EU vineyards hope to compete? The answer is obvious. Even wine making is not enough to soak up the demand. Therefore, the future of vineyards in USA and EU are not that rosy. The USA can harp on the technology war against China, while taking their eyes away from other sectors. The same mistake they made of ignoring China over the last three decades and now fighting a losing battle. The USA was so embroiled in fighting terrorism then, it overlooked China rising.

Agriculture and livestock farming in the USA and EU are facing an uncertain future with China now targeting the two sectors. This is going to be a very important development, as without the China market, the agriculture and livestock farming sector in USA and EU are also going to shrink. A shrinking market will obviously shrink the sectors production capacity. That is basic knowledge.

China buying more grain and meat from the Global South countries like Brazil and Argentina and now Russia, will be a big loss for the USA and EU. That will give the Global South countries more incentives to grow more and raise more cattle and pigs for the Chinese market and decimate the Global North countries.

China is fighting a trade war against the West, using countermeasures that are going for the jugular and hurts the most. China is not fighting a trade war blindly like the USA and EU, that leaves gaping holes that are to be filled by alternative suppliers inside BRICS. China is going to decimate the West's agriculture and livestock production facilities and food security issues for them going forward.

When tariff are implemented, it mean I have to buy product at a higher price. I still can't believe that there are so many stupid people in the world who support such action. It is the same in sinkieland where sillyporean buy into the gst increase argument. I urge those sillyporean who are not stupid to vote for a new government so that we can have a chance to experience a better life.

Singaporeans did not buy into the GST argument. It was shafted down their throats. COE system was also shafted down their throats. Escalating HDB prices are also shafted down their throats.

How could sensible thinking Singaporeans be accused of ever buying into the gloating that GST is going to help the poor when the reality is the opposite. As an opposition voter, and all not stupid voters, we agree that making an alternative choice is the only way out. But my vote is being overwhelmed by those who did not walk the talk. They know how to game the system by increasing foreign citizenship to dilute the votes. So, how?
