19,000 applicants for 2,100 flats

The latest exercise for the sale of balance flats by HDB saw a 9 times over subscription for the 2100 flats available. Assuming that each batch of flats put up for sale is 2000, to clear this 19000 applicants will take another 8 sales exercises. And if the sales are done twice annually, it means it will take another 4 years to satisfy all the applicants. Of course this will not be the case. But one thing for sure, if these 19,000 applicants are real, then many will need to apply and apply and apply again before they can get to their dream flats. How many will get their flats on first time application?

Great news in the front page of ST today. Money for employers to be transmitted to employees. Everything on the upward trend. For sure GE is just round the corner. Money flowing into the pockets of the voters.

Don't worry everyone will get their dream flat. Prelude to a GE.

'balanced' flats are flats that are well balanced. oops, typo error. they are unsold, surplus flats or leftover flats in previous launches.

yep, everyone will get their flats. only at what price and what size and where.

Redbean, please be thankful for small mercy, or should I say crumbs. As long as you have a flat to live in why are you so picky. Location, size or affordability are all controlled and decided for you. If it is intended that you take 50 years to pay for that little box in the sky, then so be it. You must accept all that are destined and set out for you. You called them demigods, so they have the power to decide for you in all things. How you live, where you live, where your chldren go to school, what they learn, what they eat, how they think, who you vote and who your children will vote, how long you will have to work before you retire, the quality of your life and that of your family, who come into your country and the cost of old age and the quality of your life when you are old, all these and much more are all decided for you. Take it or leave it. If you cannot take all that, just pack your bags and they will wave you off at Changi airport and they will label you quitters.

Let the housings be the capital for you to buy your lands and bungalows abroad, when their(Flats) prices go up.

If and when quitting gets you a better life, i see no reason to remain in SIN.

Oh; 'balanced' flats mean the coats of the flats are equal to the prices the buyers have to pay; just my guess.

Oops! My apology!

The Word 'Coats' should be 'Costs',
pardon my typo error.

Excellent. This means more political power for Messiah Lee and Co.

Wow, think of the conveyancing fees earned by that famous S'pore law firm — the one who has monopoly on HDB conveyancing.

Legal theft rides again!

I agree with Matilah absolutely. Lining own pockets in familee has been going on for the last 50 years. I cannot imagine what they want to do with the vast accumulated wealth. Can I ask a question of Redbean? When do you think they will understand the word " enough "?

Although accumulating wealth is a factor, it is not IMO THE most important factor.

These days any fool with basic education can become wealthy in a decade or less, if he/she is prepared to do what it takes, and can last the distance, resist temptations of the ego and keep what they make.

The driving force behind it all is accumulation of POWER.

POWER ==> external validation. Some people need this external validation because they are not "worth" anything if they think themselves as "less tan" others. So the idea is to accumulate power so that they can have some kind of HOLD over other "lesser" beings.

"Balanced flats" are left-over flats previously offered to applicants but there have been no takers.

In other words, nobody wants them for one reason or another.

Read one Dr Lee Kin Weng's Article in the Straits Times Forum on 10th October 09 entitled 'HDB deserves praise'.

How many agree with his view?

i agree that HDB deserves all the praises for 30 years of building cheap homes for the people. but no thanks for the last few years for escalating the prices of public housing to 'so affordable'.
