Singapore ATM calls to work again

SINGAPORE: The employer of more than 400 migrant workers who have not been paid for months has returned to Singapore, Minister of State for Manpower Dinesh Vasu Dash said on Sunday (Jun 28).

Mr Ramu Palani Velu, a Singapore permanent resident, is currently assisting with investigations and his passport has been impounded.

Mr Velu is a director of KPA Engineering and SK Industries, and is listed as a director of five other Singapore companies, including VVR Plant Engineering – whose workers have also gone unpaid for months....

Speaking to reporters during a visit to Kranji Recreation Centre, where he met workers from the three firms, Mr Dinesh said the Ministry of Manpower takes a serious view of breaches to the Employment Act and Employment of Foreign Manpower Act, and that action would be taken if necessary.

"These are very serious offences, and I hope our employers will be able to support our migrant workers and workers in general," he said.

He added that migrant workers owed salaries should reach out to the Tripartite Alliance for Dispute Management for help recovering their wages.  CNA

The Singapore govt has stepped in to pay foreign workers that were not paid by their employers. At least 400 of such workers are caught in this situation with many more coming forward. This is a good thing for the govt to do, to help foreign workers in need, especially when Singapore has a lot of money to spend. Caveat, Singapore cannot afford to be an ATM forever whenever somehow cheated or committed a fraud, especially foreigners.

Singapore is not Santa Claus, is not a charity organisation. The money used to pay for such frauds and misconducts are Singaporeans' money and should be used to help Singaporeans, not foreigners. This is a smaller case compared to helping collapsed Indian banks and Air India. No matter how much money Singapore has, there is no reason to throw them away just like that, to foreign countries and foreigners.

Charity begins at home. Such money can go a long way to help needy Singaporeans. It cannot be used to fill bottomless pits. Would more foreign employers be thinking it is ok to cheat their workers, don't pay their workers because the Singapore govt will step in to pay for them? Would more foreign companies be waiting for Singapore to bail them out for real or fictitious losses?  It is looking like predators are all eyeing the Singapore ATM with plenty of OPM to dispense. Oops, I mean cash to dispense freely.

What do you think.

Good morning All

Why the Government allowed foreigners to be the Employers of all.these Migrant Workers?

Should be a Singaporeans Employer to All.these Migrant Workers!

The Worst is that monopolised even by the same Source of Workers from their same Country where thru could manipulated them as in their own countries cultures and chastes.

Heard many cruel stories from these Migrant Workers that they paid a leg and an arm to these unscrupulous animals to even work here!

That's not the end, even their monthly salaries are been cut as commissions monthly to these evil Shylocks!

How can.the Government allowed this to be the norm?

Oh! Think even our own in league with them the same Ahem Ahem?

No eyes see!

When bad employers start to realize we have an open-ended ATM, will they take advantage?

It is so easy to scam daft Singaporeans. They have so much money and so willing to give away. All OPM. Easy come easy go. If it is their own money, see how they protect them.

65% of sillyporean are very happy to give away their money to foreigners. That why they always voted for the same white termite. 35% peasants can only suck thumb & kpkb to release some tension. All peasants here will suffer if the 65% still think the money given out is opm & not theirs.

Sinkies just wayang for prestige and false generosity and are more wanted.to be known as enlightened souls to the outside world of others rather than to our own compatriots and fellow citizens.

Most of them Sinkies would not even spare a two dollars to our own needy in the streets and would contributed hundreds and even thousands for others just to have a reputation for themselves.

Many cases of some foreigners that are met with some accidents or misfortunes and the donations came.in by the thousands and even reached a million.

Even one case of a foreigners chow ang moh with wife and children been stranded here due to lack of funds going back also had donations for them to tide over and gone back!

Hello! They are travelling for their leisure and not real hardships cases.

Also one Malaysian couple who' worked here as cleaners at the Airport
was unfortunately knocked down by a mad.driver at the airport's terminal outside alighting bays and was given a donation of a million Singapore Dollars for them contributions by Sinkies!

They returned home to JB and within a year or so spend all and back.to working here.

Hoping that the Daft kind Sinkies would donate again the same.

It this unfortunate incident happened to us Singaporeans, you think the donation would be the same?

Not on your life!

Sinkies are harsher to their own kind as from time since independence been brainwashed and brainsdead with the mantras that no one owe you a living by our Great LKY.

So you have to find a way to survive on.your own!

Used to listen to many saying this to our fellow Singaporeans!

Hello, you have legs and arms go and find work lah!

So.even out government set the scenario that you work hoh and we shall bullshits help you with what's meagre Workfare!

No eyes see

Do you think LKY or GKS will use Singapore's hard earned savings to give and give to foreigners and foreign countries? In their times, every cent is earned from blood, sweat and tear. Think so easy for them to throw away?
Now got so much money, what is a few hundred million?

Harry and Goh would never even give hard earned savings to help true blue Sinkies.

The hungry foreigners are crackling their heads everyday, busily trying to find ways to scam gullible rich Singaporeans. And when they know Singaporeans have so much OPM and so willing to give away, they will find all kinds of tricks to take the money from gullible Singaporeans. Don't know how many millions or billions have been taken from daft Singaporeans.

Unofficially we do not know how much DBS was scammed in India. Unofficially, we still do not know how much SIA was looted by Air India. Those are not peanuts, although I understand a peanut is S$50,000 each.
