The Japs are playing the same game as India, clearly playing the USA against the Russians. The Japs may be harbouring revenge on the USA discreetly, and at the same time are wary of China's unforgiven stance over the atrocities they committed during WW2. What is more a blessing in disguise for Japan if the USA and China destroy each other? That will suit them best, right? Killing two birds with one stone. That is obviously their game plan.
Some are saying that the Japs are the instigators behind the Taiwan issue, even pledging to fight for Taiwan in the event of war with mainland China. Why up the stakes when the Taiwan issue has little to do with Japan? So the Japs are indirectly stoking the flames of war. And the USA is playing into the hands of the Japs. The same way that the USA got themselves mired in Ukraine by playing into the hands of Zelensky, the con-man.

The DPP has been supporting Japan against China on nearly every issue, despite Taiwanese also suffered under Jap occupation. The DPP also do away with education of Chinese history and culture and place emphasis on those of Japan. The Taiwanese media now has programs and commercials in Japanese. The govt is deSinotising the youths to be less Chinese and more Taiwanese and even Japanese.

The Japanese already had eyes to rule China during the last emperor, Pu Yi's, reign. They failed and are now trying their luck to openly rule Taiwan instead, and in time to use Taiwan as a base, with the USA behind, to realise their broken dream of ruling China once again. Not that they are not controlling Taiwan now, using a fake half Japanese witch, but have not openly done so.
Never write off the Jap's ambition and mentality. Why did they not come clean and admit their crime of atrocities committed during WW2 after more than three quarters of a century? Why do their top leaders still pay homage to their war criminals year after year at the Yakasuni Shrine? They are still hedging and harbouring their ambition of a return to rule China, using the USA's backing. By themselves, they can never hope to take on China and will be an exercise in futility.

But the majority of the Chinese Taiwanese are proud to be Chinese, proud to be called Chinese and want to return to the Motherland.
