I refer to the announcement by the multi-ministry task force tackling Covid-19 that unvaccinated people may not be allowed back to the workplace despite having a negative Covid-19 test result (Unvaccinated people may not be allowed back to workplace despite negative test result: Wong, Dec 15).
If this concession is removed, unvaccinated employees denied entry to their workplaces will probably have to resign. This makes such workers unemployable in workplaces which need them to be on-site.
The family members of unvaccinated workers would also be affected by the loss of income.
Employers might also suffer as they would have to let go of unvaccinated employees who may be excellent workers. The loss of such workers might affect business operations and cause recruitment problems for employers in this challenging business landscape.
The unvaccinated already face restrictions, including denial of entry to shopping malls, having to take additional antigen rapid tests and the mandatory pre-event testing for entry into workplaces come Jan 1.
Placing restrictions to protect the unvaccinated is one thing, but making it difficult for unvaccinated people to earn a living is another. Not every unvaccinated person can work from home.

By January or so, we may have data for vaccine trials for the 2-4 year olds, with vaccination available say in the March timeframe. Vaccination for even younger infants may available next.
So by June next year, vaccination could be available for all age groups.
This time next year, there will be no more excuses about vaccine shortages, to complete 2 shot full dose, plus boosters.
By March or so, we may have Omicron targetted vaccines available too.

Over 7 million paediatric Pfizer shots have been given in the USA for the 5-11 year olds.
There are 8 confirmed cases of heart inflammation resulting from the shots, with one more under review, and another 5 to be assessed.
4 of the confirmed cases have since recovered.
This is something for parents to think about as efforts are underway to open vaccination for children 5-11.
As background, Covid itself also causes heart inflammation, at 37 times more than for kids without Covid. Prevalence of heart inflammation without Covid was not reported.

Pfizer says pandemic could extend to 2024, vaccine data for younger children delayed
Pfizer Inc (PFE.N) on Friday forecast that the COVID-19 pandemic would not be behind us until 2024 and said a lower-dose version of its vaccine for 2- to 4-year-olds generated a weaker immune response than expected, potentially delaying authorization
Pfizer Chief Scientific Officer Mikael Dolsten said in a presentation to investors that the company expects some regions to continue to see pandemic levels of COVID-19 cases over the next year or two. Other countries will transition to "endemic" with low, manageable caseloads during that same time period
By 2024, the disease should be endemic around the globe, the company projected.
"When and how exactly this happens will depend on evolution of the disease, how effectively society deploys vaccines and treatments, and equitable distribution to places where vaccination rates are low," Dolsten said. "The emergence of new variants could also impact how the pandemic continues to play out."
Pfizer developed its COVID-19 vaccine with Germany's BioNTech SE (22UAy.DE), and currently expects it to generate revenue of $31 billion next year. It plans to make 4 billion shots next year.
