Then this morning, the Pretoria doctor who first sounded the alarm about the new strain and who is a Covid-19 adviser to the South Africa government said that symptoms linked to the omicron coronavirus variant have been mild so far.
Contrary to the panic mongering unleashed by western mainstream median, Barry Schoub, chairman of the Ministerial Advisory Committee on Vaccines, told Sky News on Sunday that while South Africa, which first identified the new variant, currently has 3,220 people with the coronavirus infection overall and while the variant does appear to be spreading rapidly, there’s been no real uptick in hospitalizations
“The cases that have occurred so far have all been mild cases, mild-to-moderate cases, and that’s a good sign,” said Schoub, adding that it was still early days and nothing was certain yet.

Panic and crying wolf were the order of the day last Friday when news of a new variant, Omicron was spread across the world. All the stock markets went into a down spiral and billions and trillions were wiped out in a day of trading. Follow the money trail. Who were the big beneficiaries of this wild rumour mongering?
The irresponsible and cruel fear mongering to make profits from this pandemic is a crime against humanity. The exploitation of the fear in the weak mind, the ignorant and uninformed masses is cruelty, is base and all the parties involved must be punished if this new variant turns out to be mild and nothing dangerous. Responsible people in high offices and national and international organisations overlooking this pandemic must act and talk responsibly.

The Omicron has been detected in Europe well before South Africa identified and reported it to the UN's WHO.
The same thing happened to Wuhan. The Covid-19 has appeared in the US and Europe well before Wuhan detected and identified and reported it to the WHO's WHO.
Those countries just kept quiet, for certain selfish reasons.
Because if you are the first country to report it, then all the crocodiles, hawks and wolves and hyenas will stare at you and ready to pounce upon you, like the Psychopath Dotard Trump trying very hard to pin the blame on China in order to claim indemnity. What a crook!
I hate to say that. Mild or not mild, please let real expert analyze it, and not some doctors of own country to verify. There always of conflict of interest and bias when own people check people, just like what happen in SinkieLand. COVID19 were in the USA long before Wuhan, but they covered it up and claimed it was the common flu. Wuhan was their chance to push the blame onto China. And what vile and malicious thoughts they had by trying to plant the virus just before the Chinese New Year when movements of people was at it's greatest.
They tried to kill two birds with one stone by attempting to kill off as many Chinese as possible, while at the same time having an avenue to blame China for the virus. The plan was great, but the Chinese took fast action to stop the spread by strict lockdown. Then they resorted to blaming China for being draconian by imposing lockdowns. Yet, hahaha, they had the cheek to follow lockdowns themselves. CB mouths galore! They had to grab poo (shit) and stuff them in their mouths.
Heaven helped China and they did not succeed in killing half the Chinese population at least. But on the second evil plan, they are still fabricating evidence, even up till today, trying to hammer in the blame by hook or by crook. It never fails to amaze me their natural ability to craft frivolous claims like those Hollywood blockbusters.

Flu is a very good coverup for COVID19, especially during it's early days before China broke the code. So, before that, all deaths in the USA were attributed to the flu. There were reports that there were many deaths in the middle of 2019 from a mysterious disease that the USA could not understand what it was, and they conveniently classified that as death due to the flu.
There were also calls to conduct investigations regarding those mysterious deaths, but were flatly denied by the Government. Why? Afraid of letting the cat out of the bag?

An update on WHO on Omicron.
We are all taking precautions in Sg and elsewhere on the presumption that Omicron is likely to more more infectious, and could also be more evasive against antibodies from past infection or from vaccination.
This is a good thing - if all countries had responded like this when we first heard about Covid in January last year, we could have had a chance to squash down and eliminate the spread of Covid.
So in a sense, this is a practice born out of the painful experience of several waves of infections and deaths since January last year, and this year.
This means that we will all be better prepared for the next pandemic, to respond quicker and faster to prevent an infectious virus from developing into uncontrollable pandemics.
True, some practices are not quite scientific - for instance, to differentiate by passports as they so in the USA.
True, we all need to bring back our own citizens and long term residents. But we should remember that they too could be silent carriers.
So risk differentiation should have a template based on prevalence risks.
In Sg, we have essentially made the decision to continue with living with Delta, though we will take on pause on further relaxation for now, until we have better visibility.
In any case, we should always take 3-4 weeks every time we relax social interaction measures, to see the effect, bcos the new cases and the subsequent oxygen/ICU/deaths take time to surface.
So the pause isn’t costing us anything, except as a reminder to track the impact and implications of Omicron before we take the next step of domestic relaxation.
Then on the Omicron front, we will operate as if we are facing the covid for the first time, with contact tracing and quarantines at dedicated facilities for all Omicron related cases. Except this time, we know how to handle better, and we have better treatment tools, plus vaccination to mitigate the worst risks.
This will help slow down transmission to get another few thousands of unvaxxed seniors to be vaccinated, and also give us time to start vaccination for our 5-11 year olds.
This is helpful for primary school and kindergarten kids.
Many parents are hoping the vaccination for even younger kids can start not long after, as they want their 2-4 year old toddlers to be safe too.
So while WHO has designated Omicron to be a VOC, let’s not panic or go overboard.
The best thing we can do is to help the southern African to be vaccinated sooner than later too.
This is especially when there is also a large population of HIV patients among them, whose immune system is highly impaired.
