Malaysian
PM Muhyiddin's position as a PM was a last minute, hasty maneuvering by
UMNO, led by corruption tainted former Premier Najib and the UMNO
President.
Muhyiddin was merely a stooge but he refused to be a stooge, and so the King-maker un-stooged him. So, Humpty
Dumpty had a great fall. All the King's dogs and all the King's men could not put Humpty Dumpty together again.
Muhyiddin's
grip on power has been a precarious one all along. His survival as the
PM was dependent on UMNO's charity. He knew it and the UMNO leadership
knew it.
Since he took office in March 2020 with a slim majority
in Parliament, the dice was already cast. Either he tow the line of
UMNO's dirty politics or the line would tow him.
Pressure on him has been mounting ever since. It was only recently that the UMNO leadership withdrew support for him.
Muhyiddin
had revealed that the recent crisis was brought about by his refusal to
meet demands including the dropping of corruption charges against some
(UMNO) individuals.
UMNO Leaders, including ex-PM Najib Razak and
Party President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, are facing corruption charges. They
have denied wrongdoing and were among those who withdrew support for
Muhyiddin this month, hoping that if Muhyiddin resigns then his Deputy
PM, who is from UMNO, would take over as PM.
But Muhyiddin did
not resign alone. He resigned the whole Cabinet. So, the decision to
choose the next PM rests on the King. The smart King has decided that
Muhyiddin should continue as Caretaker PM until he (the King) decides
who should form the next Cabinet. The King is actually buying time for
him.
As the interim Caretaker PM, Muhyiddin can reshuffle the
Cabinet and seek alliance with Anwar or Mahathir again in order to get
the majority support he needed to form the next Cabinet.
Now, the fate of Muhyiddin's Premiership is in his own hands. It depends on how he plays the game.

Lots of horse trading are going on behind the scene. A coalition is after all just a coalition of the willing. The coalition breaks up when one party becomes an unwilling partner and that makes the coalition unworkable.
Even the next Malaysian PM will suffer the same fate as Mud, unless the system of MPs jumping from one party to the other and still remaining as elected MPs is not addressed. Wonder what really enticed them to and you can certainly discount their move for moral and altruistic reasons.
As it is, the situation looks grim for Malaysia. UMNO still holds the key and it will be back in business eventually, after making a fool of the fools in paradise. The fact that UMNO has such a long history and expertise, in maneuvering the masses in Malaysia, will see it to the finish line. Corruption is endemic in UMNO's DNA. It cannot be eradicated. It manifested itself from the very top, as proven, to the bottom left untouched.
Now that it had been proven that Mudyiddin's alliance with Mahathir or Anwar did not work before, could they come back to terms again. I doubt! But Malaysian politics is so full of intrigue, so I may be wrong.
Is the old fox still thinking of having a third term by entering the arena? Was he blindsided by Muhyiddin earlier on or was it consensus planning to sabotage Anwar who had been clamouring for power? Maybe he could do it now for his son's sake, for which he would be in better shoes if he rejoins UMNO. But then his son will have to rise from the bottom and would certainly not be PM contender for a long long while, as there are power hungry big hats in UMNO eyeing the PM's job.

The resignation of PM Muhyiddin Yassin and his Cabinet on Monday has ended his rocky 17-month Administration in a rock and roll.
Political parties, as per normal, are hustling for support for their choice candidate to fill the vacant PM post.
Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin has ruled out a snap election because of COVID-19. Therefore, according to the constitution, it is now up to him to choose a Premier he believes can command a majority in the lower house.
The Sultan has summoned all party leaders to private audiences on Tuesday to propose candidates.
Parliamentarians have until 4 pm local time on Wednesday to submit declarations naming "ONE Law-maker" who has their support to become the next PM. Their declarations must be sent by Fax, Email or WhatsApp due to COVID-19.
Malaysia has 20 political parties with representatives in the lower house, and six independent members of parliament.
The largest of them, the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), is calling for a "War Cabinet" that only focuses on steering the nation out of the pandemic and toward an economic recovery.
"After the country reaches herd immunity and the situation improves for a general election to be held, this government should be dissolved to return the mandate to the people," UMNO President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said in a statement late on Monday.
Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who triggered Muhyiddin's resignation by leading 15 lawmakers in withdrawing their support for the National Alliance government, said the party was considering a few names.
The oppositions formed a Pact, comprising of the People's Justice Party, Democratic Action Party and the National Honest Party. They have publicly endorsed Anwar Ibrahim as their candidate.
Former PM Mahathir Mohamad's party has only four law-makers including himself. In addition, he has the allegiance of 12 others. They include eight from the Sabah Heritage Party led by Shafie Apdal, the one whom Mahathir recommends to be the next PM.
Anything can happen. The Sultan may pull a surprise.

Malaysia’s king on Wednesday said the country’s soon-to-be-appointed new prime minister must immediately test his support in parliament, a move that could prolong the political crisis that led to Muhyiddin Yassin’s resignation this week.
The royal statement from the office of Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah came hours before the 4:00 pm deadline for the country’s 222 MPs to each submit a single nominee for the Prime Minister post.
The secret ballot will help the King make a decision on who is most likely to command the confidence of the country’s Parliament, the Dewan Rakyat.
Strangely for countries that have never had a military coup, this course of action is alien.
For countries like Thailand, if the military were not now in control, you can bet it would have set off another coup by the military. It is fashionable to say the least. I suppose only a very strong military leader with power concentrated in his hands and wide support among the ranks can pull off a coup.
Last month. UMNO leadership has forced the puppet PM Muhyiddin to put Ismail Sabri as his Deputy Prime Minister.
Muhyiddin did not want to have a Deputy PM for 15 months. Why suddenly put in one last month? The moment he placed Sabri as DPM, Muhyiddin's fate was sealed. That was Najib's strategy all along, to put in an UMNO candidate as the PM so as to take him and his running dogs off the hooks of all the corruption and criminal charges.
Now Najib has manipulated and manoeuvred to get 114 MPs on his side to nominate Ismail Sabri as the next PM.
Money can even make the devils and saints work for you, isn't it?
As I said before, and many others too, UMNO is going to be the main beneficiary of this crisis. Understand Ismail Sabri was appointed just on 7th July, 2021 as DPM. This was probably all orchestrated by the power brokers in UMNO.
Muhyiddin was just a pawn to get rid of Mahathir, denied Anwar's persistent clamor for Mahathir to pass the baton, which all came to nothing. Had Anwar succeeded, UMBO would probably have to wait a much longer to get Najib and his gang off the hook.
Now, if Sabri gets the PM's job, UMNO could move the pieces into place for the next GE. Everything seems to be falling into place for UMNO and it is back to square one for the minority races in Malaysia. The 'Harapan' they had been hoping for has turned into a bad dream.
As Expected Ismail Sabri IS Najib's Stooge For Next PM
As expected, UMNO, still very much under the leadership of the convicted Najib Razak pulling the money-greased-ropes in the shadow, has nominated Ismail Sabri Yaakob as their PM candidate.
UMNO's secretary-general Ahmad Maslan tweeted: "Only one name will be nominated as prime minister candidate by MPs in UMNO / BN (Barisan Nasional), and that is Ismail Sabri".
He emphasized that it was a collective decision by UMNO president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, deputy president Mohamad Hasan, BN adviser and former prime minister Najib Razak as well as other UMNO supreme council members.
(Take note that it was a collective decision, not unanimous individuals' decisions)
Ismail Sabri was earlier (last month) maneuvered into the deputy prime minister position, serving only one month July to August.
The decision to nominate Ismail Sabri was also confirmed by Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin Abdul Rahman.
"I am happy because UMNO and Barisan Nasional are united and we agree on one candidate, one name," said Mr Tajuddin.
He stressed that the decision would be backed by the party's partners in the Perikatan Nasional coalition, including Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS).
PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has also confirmed that all 18 of the party's federal lawmakers have signed statutory declarations in full support of Ismail Sabri as prime minister candidate.
Bersatu's 35 MPs have been instructed by the Party President Muhyiddin to back Ismail Sabri as the next prime minister.
Bersatu supreme council member Eddin Syazlee Shith, who is MP for Kuala Pilah, reportedly said that the party leadership had previously resolved that Muhyiddin would decide on the choice of prime minister on behalf of the party MPs. This is undoubtedly a concrete evidence to show that MPs from the Bersatu Party were not free to make their own individual decisions but have been dictated by one person, Party President Muhyiddin.
The Malaysian King must not accept this kind of unconscionable politicking if He truly wants a new kind of politics. It is tantamount to undermining and circumventing the King's direct and sincere wish and command.

Aiyah, Mahathir is now like a bamboo plant, swaying with the wind. UMNO certainly does not want him back. Anwar knows better than to trust him. Anwar's daughter would have advised his father to distance himself from Mahathir. Anwar has been played out by Mahathir several times, followed by Muhyiddin. Unless he wants another episode of sodomy sequel.
