The USA and the West had this wish to decouple from
China. Now it is called de-risking. But calling shit or poo by any other
name still smells as bad. Despite all the denial that the USA and
Europe are not decoupling or derisking from China, China knows what all
that hocus pocus means and is not falling for it and is getting ready
for it.
So, decoupling or derisking it still stands, and China is
now helping them, with students refraining from studying in the USA,
and Chinese tourist avoiding USA and other Anglo-Saxon countries. The
fall in Chinese student enrollments in the USA and UK Universities are
putting Universities in the USA and UK in financial distress, cutting
staff and closing campuses. Chinese University staff in USA and UK are
returning to China to teach in the rapidly expanding higher education
sector in China. China did not have to spend a fortune training and
cultivating them. What a bountiful harvest indeed!
Chinese
scientists and engineers working in the USA are facing racial
discrimination and abuse and thousands are leaving the USA and going
back to China. Fake claims of spying and punishment are also causing the
exodus. This is turning into a blessing in disguise for China as well,
without having to lure them back. China needs all the scientists and
engineers for its industrial growth and welcomes them back with open
arms.
There will be a shortage of such scientists and engineers
staffing industries and doing research in the USA and is not good for
their industrial sector going forward. Chip manufacturers are facing
recruitment problems, and research and development will be affected.
Instead of decoupling to advance their agenda, it is backfiring on them.
Is this a surprise to us knowing that the USA and the West like to
shoot their own feet, or their own head as someone said, every time they
tried to put others down. They never look further than their noses when
formulating policies. Many are asking where the USA strategist and
foreign policy advisers are hiding.
Sometimes people never want
to own up on their mistakes, or do not want to avoid them for whatever
reason, and it takes people from outside to see the woods from the
trees. Oh, there was this story about a boy who shouted that the Emperor
had no clothes, waking up the daft citizens quietly watching the
Emperor parading naked on a horse without saying the obvious. I am
starting to believe it was true story, not a parody.

Xi Jinping warned Joe Biden on the phone yesterday: "US is on a never ending campaign to suppress Chinese trade & tech. This is not "de-risking" but creates risks. If US wishes to cooperate, China's door remains open, but if US is bent on stripping China of its legitimate rights to growth, China would not sit on its hands."
The evil Americans are building walls around themselves and digging a hole to hide in it. This will be the end result of their daily sanctioning of countries around the world.
They think they are isolating countries but the reality, isolating themselves from the rest of the world.
All that talk about decoupling or derisking does not worry China too much. China had been preparing for this day decades ago. That is why China is so dominant in so many areas, that otherwise the USA and the West can use to bring China to its knees. All attempts to hinder China and bring it down will all fail miserably. There is no stopping China.
Kevin, on 'Inside China Business' today talks about China dominating even the drugs production sector. USA drug makers have to rely on Chinese raw materials to manufacture their expensive drugs. India too, being a top drugmaker globally, is dependent on China for such raw materials for generic drugs. I would say it is the same with many other Indian products like iPhones and computers.
China can retaliate against the USA sanctions on many fronts, not just on rare earths, and when a push comes to a shove, China has all the means to make the USA's move backfiring on all cylinders.
While USA is talking about more sanctions on China, CEOs of industries just met Xi in Beijing. Isn't decoupling or derisking the mantra of the USA and the West? Why are these CEOs still trying, if not to do business in China, what are they going there for? According to Kevin, they want to do more than just setting up factories in China. And we keep hearing that companies are shutting business in China and that China is collapsing. What is the truth?
America has always believe they are "safe" being isolated by 2 big oceans, same mentality as their Anglo Saxon cousin in that little island Britain.

Britain's biggest train manufacturer, owned jointly by Alstom of France and Hitachi, is closing its doors with the loss of 1,300 jobs, blaming no meaningful workload, which I take to mean train orders.
The company was said to have a contract worth 2.8 million pounds to build 54 trains for UK's HS2 line, but obviously could not survive without orders outside of the UK. Outside of the UK, the company has to compete with China, a formidable task to undertake, and the owners knew that the company cannot survive with just an order or two from the UK Government and EU perhaps.
This closure is being touted as a crisis for Transport Secretary Mark Harper.
That myth about USA being 'safe' due to its position of being isolated by two big oceans is totally falling flat and a shattered dream.
The USA is having a huge problem now on its Southern Border, fighting an invasion by people from Mexico, without even bearing arms. This is even worse than falling to the Taliban farmers in Afghanistan, bearing only small arms.
Trump is upping the rhetoric calling those immigrants 'animals'. And he is promising a 'border blood bath' if he gets his second term.
