Citizens of USA, UK and EU are not the only visitors
going to China. How big is the population of the USA and EU combined?
That is why I say banning them is an exercise in futility.
Africans
from all over Africa are now visiting China, some studying in China and
even Indian and Middle Eastern students from India and Arab States are
there, blogging as well. And that is not taking into account that Africa
is still underdeveloped and there is still much work to eradicate
poverty. Africa has a total population of more than 1.4 billion, hungry
to develop, wanting to move forward and eagerly looking to progress like
China. Every cloud has a silver lining and Africa is not going to be
denied.
China is using another channel to counter the anti=China
propaganda generated by the West and is now offering more University
Scholarships to students from Africa and others. These students are not
the dumb folks that will swallow all the propaganda trotted out by
Western leaders and MSM. And they will be future leaders of Government
and Industry. Their experience in China will be a big factor in their
thinking after they graduated. And China knows the dividends it will be
able to reap by cultivating good relations with such students in time to
come. Just like foreign students studying in US and Western
Universities in the past. De-coupling or de-risking is benefiting China
in the long run.
I am nevertheless flabbergasted at reports by
the BBC that China is building the equivalent of a new University almost
every week. That may be an exaggeration, but it shows the intention of
the Chinese Government and its long-term thinking. The Chinese
Government investment strategy is long term - 20 to 30 years, never mind
the initial outlay.
Chinese students are now avoiding University
education in the USA and the West and looking at the much cheaper
University education they can get at a quarter of the cost at home. And
the programs and courses are more tailored towards the needs of the
Chinese Industial push. Moreover, Chinese Universities are rising in
global rankings, but I am sure Chinese Universities can never be the
best in surveys, if you look at the way they interpreted the global
happiness survey conducted by IPSOS, a French Market Research outfit. It
was totally skewed.
I am glad that many are catching up with
the fiasco of that happiness survey by IPSOS, and it is no exaggeration
to say that this probably happens in every survey by Western entities.
Suffice to say, Chinese scientist (other than those outside of China)
will never ever be able to get close to a Nobel Prise. Chinese
Universities, no matter how good, will never top the ranking list. That
is the truth.

I almost fell off my chair watching Channel News America interviewing someone and having the view and proclaiming that Japan is the most trusted power in ASEAN. And China is slowly losing trust among ASEAN countries. This narrative has been repeated quite regularly.
Why isn't the USA even mentioned in this instance regarding trustworthiness among ASEAN states? The USA was supposed to be so trustworthy (maybe in the Philippines and also in you know which other ASEAN country) in ASEAN. Every move that ASEAN makes, e.g. in Myanmar has to involve the USA. So how could the USA not be viewed in that context? The answer is that USA reputation is now so badly battered and distrusted in ASEAN that it is not worth a mention. So, Japan, a USA colony is taking its place. They cannot put China at the top, right?
Perhaps the distrust of the USA can be solidified by repeating the case of Indonesia being dragged, unknowingly, by the Pentagon as being a party to a joint statement that castigated Russia in Ukraine and criticising China, which, Pabowo, the then Defence Minister of Indonesia, had to come out to clear the lies by saying that no such agreement had taken place, and had to come out to tell Russia and China that Indonesia valued their relations. That was a big blow for the USA. That they lie, cheat and steal is no idle boast.
If China is reported to be slowly losing its trust among ASEAN countries, yet another headline at the bottom of the screen had a different take of the whole situation. It is reported that ASEAN is more in favour of China as the superpower in the region, not the USA. No wonder reading the fine print on anything is that important. That headline probably won't last another minute.
How in the world can Japan be claimed to be the most trustworthy power in ASEAN boggles the mind? Have ASEAN countries forgotten what the Japanese did to their grandparents and parents during WW2? Have some unfilial beans forgotten about the comfort women issue, especially if their mothers or sisters were victims? And yet Japan still do not come clean over all this, unlike the Germans.
How could Japan also be viewed as a trustworthy power, when it attacked Pearl Harbour while negotiations were still ongoing in Washington during WW2? That already shows how sneaky and untrustworthy the Japanese are. And yet among ASEAN states they claimed Japan to be the most trustworthy. I rest my case.
Why is Channel News America bringing up this issue suddenly? I guess the anti-China agenda is still top of their agenda, just to stoke unease among ASEAN states against China. I know that sometimes negative issues, about China or Chinese nationals, periodically pops up on MSM, innocently looking negative issues of minor importance, but strategically and discreetly inserted to brainwash viewers and readers of such news. Do not fall for the scam by them using such insidious attempts.
Since we are in the early transition phase, I'm recommending young students to study their Bachelorats locally or still the usual UK/Australia (not USA) & further their Masters in PRC. Many Chinese universities have Masters program conducted in English.
This way, they get the best of both worlds which will help them as the transition moves more towards China. Having lived & studied in both sides would enrich them culturally and help further the future career.
The young in Asean, especially the bananas in Singapore, did not know history, did not know Japan invaded, colonised Singapore, massacred many Singaporeans and committed many atrocities against the people of Asean.
This is the problem of the unthinking, after being tamed by the colonial powers, would think the colonial masters are very nice people.
What makes the situation in Universities in USA and UK cutting staff due to financial distress is benefitting China in a much bigger way. When Chinese lecturers go back to China, they provide the base for conducting lectures in English, which is conducive for non Chinese students in Chinese Universities.
Together with their knowledge and expertise acquired in the USA and UK, they will raise the standard of teaching and that in turn will attract more foreign students to study in China, much more cheaply than enrolling in Western Universities.
There is going to be a renaissance or rebirth in education in China that will shake the world of university education. The USA, UK and the West can take their eyes away, but may find it too late that they are losing another lucrative avenue for making money. Other than tuition fees paid to universities, there is a whole new industry catering to student needs, especially foreign students, like accommodation, food and other living essentials, annual air travel, vacation travel etc. all benefitting the economy of the host country.
