Possible to have coups in Singapore?

After 60 years of continuous PAP rule, the thought of a coup in Singapore is furthest from the minds of Singaporeans. Thinking of a coup in Singapore is a non starter, never a second needs to be wasted on such an idea. The transition of political power has gone through 4 PMs without a hitch, something of an envy to countries in Asean.

The closest moment to a coup in Singapore, if it could be called a coup, was the attempt to oust Lim Chee Onn as the Trade Union Chief, an appointee of then PM Lee Kuan Yew. Most Singaporeans would have no recollection of what happened then. The young would not have a clue. Only the seniors may still have a fleeting memory of events that happened, actually over a week, that shocked the Singapore political system.

If I could recollect, it was front page news. Singaporeans woke up staring at the Straits Times, Lim Chee Onn, the Trade Union Chief, was corrupt. Chee Onn was not only a Trade Union Chief, but also carried a ministerial rank and was a key contender to be the next PM. The allegation of Chee Onn being involved in corruption was a challenge to the PAP, a challenge to the govt, and a challenge to LKY's leadership.

The smear on Chee Onn was carried over all the main media for a few days with clockwork precision. Chee Onn was as good as guilty without trial. No one spoke out on his behalf. He was all alone, voiceless and defenceless.  He was done.  LKY did not say a word. The political career of Chee Onn was as good as history, faced with a barrage of accusation in the media. The ousting of Chee Onn, a favourite of LKY and handpicked by him to head the Trade Union was a slap in LKY's face. It was audacious!

LKY then was still very much in control, young and full of fighting spirit. LKY was not a pushover. Bringing down Chee Onn could only be the beginning of something bigger. Strange things happened a few days later. The narrative of the main media changed, completely about turn. Chee Onn was innocent. Chee Onn was not corrupt. Chee Onn was a good man. Wow, what a dramatic change of tune. Who was calling the shot over the past few days against Chee Onn, and who was in defence of Chee Onn that shut down all the accusations?

LKY was briefed and presented with all the facts on what Chee Onn did in the transferring of funds within NTUC corporations and there was nothing personal, not a cent went into his pocket. It was restructuring of NTUC's finances. This disclosure fell like a bomb shell. All his critics went mum. Not another word was heard from them. Chee Onn was cleansed from all the accusations and returned to office untarnished as NTUC Chief and retained his minister post.  The perpetrators of this plot faded away in silence, into oblivion. It was a close call.

Though the system remained intact, untainted by the allegation, Chee Onn was hurt. He was angry by the charges made against him by dunno who. No one knew, not reported. He subsequently quit politics. It was good fortune then that LKY was strong enough to rectify the wrong thrown at Chee Onn, and the spark of a potential coup was killed before it turned into a wildfire and likely to bring down the system with it. The aftermath, no one dares to play with fire again, not when LKY was around. LKY was angry, and this was enough to stop any adventurer to be mischievous in his watch.

Lawrence Wong is still new and not tested.  Would any pretenders dare to test him? Good that he has Hsien Loong watching his back for now. Would there be an attempt to do a Chee Onn on him? The future is not for us to see. Politics is politics.

Trump lying or cannot count?

According to reports, about 150 countries are now just ignoring Trump's arse kissing exercise and moving away from trade with the USA. Even Singapore has just seen a huge influx of ships calling, resulting in delays of a day and a half for clearance. Why is there a sudden upsurge in vessels calling around countries in the region instead of going to dock at empty ports around the USA? Think about it!

Trump is mad about countries not going to Washington to kiss his dirty arse. Most are not a silly as some cronies and allies rushing to Washington and getting the wrong end of the stick. So desperate is Trump that he is issuing notice of tariff going to be shafted down the throats of those countries not paying obeyance to his edit to go to Washington to do his arse kissing demand.

That brings me to the earlier gloating that 200 countries are already queuing up to negotiate with Trump. How come there are yet another 150 countries not in the queue? How many countries are there in the whole world? Not more than 195 that are inhabited by humans, and if taking out those exempted like the Vatican, Russia, Belarus and Cuba, the queue is longer than the number of countries in existence. Unless Trump takes in all those islands inhabited by penguins, seals, crabs and monkeys. Sorry, I do not know how many there are. Now Trump is issuing notice to humans, penguins, seals and monkeys that he is shafting his tariffs down their throats. Wonder what the monkeys will say. Monkey see, monkey do, LOL.

Stupid Modi...should have used F16s to bomb Pakistan on ground of fighting terrorism

That was how the USA lost the war in Afghanistan. F16s to fight the Taliban bearing small arms also failed to overcome them. The USA were then flying F16s all over Afghanistan trying to frighten the Taliban farmers but failed to cripple them. How to use F16s against more sophisticated weapons in the hands of the Pakistanis? Therefore, they have to be grounded in order not to lose face like the French.
But then, India claims the attack in Pahalgam was a terrorist attack. Why not allow India to use the F16s to fight the terrorist, a task the F16s were touted to be for? Illogical argument isn't it, to keep the F16s grounded. How is the USA going to spin the story if India is going to ask the difficult questions? India is very unhappy with the USA now over Trump taking credit for the truce between India and Pakistan, releasing the official claim of the jets shot down by Pakistan and Trump telling Apple not to have further investments in India. I think it is time for India to say enough is enough.

What Jeffrey Sachs warned India against playing the USA game is becoming true and if India does not heed the advice, too bad. The F16 sales were probably arm twisted by Trump during Modi's arse kissing attempt in Washington ahead of everyone else. It was supposed to be a move to cut the trade imbalance between India and USA and what else is more radical and effective than the sale of expensive weapons to India.

Now the Rafales are grounded and the F16 rendered impotent. And there is still talk of another war breaking out between Pakistan and India.

I like the analogy of the Native American Indians that if you see two fish fighting in a pool of water, look around and you will see a White man standing nearby, waiting to reap the benefits. Probably a fish meal, LOL.

China will benefit from Trump's war on the academia

Trump is at war with the USA. Now Trump is weaponizing higher education against the world. Fancy that?

Trump is now at war with foreign students studying in the USA, with Harvard setting the tone. This is going to cripple the USA in need of foreign talents and Trump is trying to lure back manufacturing of higher tech industries. Let us be very clear. Many of the cutting-edge innovations in the past were initiated by and attributed to foreign talents who studied and stayed back to help the USA's development. Just search back and you will see what I mean. Rocketry, nuclear weapons, semiconductors among a few others are just examples.

Trump's war on foreign students studying in USA is going to benefit China, Canada, Australia and Europe. Even Hong Kong is already jumping on the move to attract students in the face of the clampdown by Trump on foreign students. And Chinese universities are not just watching by the wayside.

Chinese universities are rising up the global rankings, with academics culled from those that left the USA in the face of ostracization and demonization. They benefitted Chinese universities more than what Beijing is hoping for. Why not? All readily trained, highly experienced and paid for to acquire their knowledge that the Chinese do not have to burden themselves with. Who is smart and who is dumb is clear for all to see.

Now, the exodus of academics and R & D personnel from USA universities will take on a new impetus. As foreign students are prevented from studying in USA universities, departments will probably have to be trimmed, academics will also be laid off, with some moving to China for sure. So let us enjoy the show of another session of foot shooting.

Dictator Trump NOT a dictator?

Fox news host confused over Trump's plan to jail Americans abroad

Brit Hume (pictured), 81, the network's Chief Political Analyst, said: 'I don't know what the president is talking about' after Trump appeared shocked and angry to hear about the Russian leader's latest airstrikes in Ukraine....

'... But I don't think Putin has changed, I don't know what the president is talking about. This is the way Putin has always been. He's always been a particularly brutal dictator, willing to take any measures he thought necessary to advance his interests. (Is Hume referring to Trump or Putin?)

Trump made a U-turn on his usual support for Putin when he appeared shocked and angry to hear that Russian airstrikes had killed at least a dozen people in Kyiv over the weekend. 'I don't know what the hell happened to Putin,' Trump told reporters on Sunday. 'I've known him a long time, always gotten along with him, but he's sending rockets into cities and killing people, and I don't like it at all.'

Trump wrote. 'He has gone absolutely CRAZY! He is needlessly killing a lot of people, and I'm not just talking about soldiers. Missiles and drones are being shot into Palestinian refugee camps, for no reason whatsoever.'  MSN

The above is a typical piece of crap coming from Fox News, calling Putin a dictator when the dictator is Trump in the White House. Yes, Trump will take any measures he thought necessary to advance his interests, like taking over Harvard University and in the process of taking over Gaza, Greenland, Canada, Mexico and Panama. Putin did not do this kind of things.

And Trump is shock with the shelling in Ukraine, killing a handful of Ukrainians but not shock with Netanyahu, the war criminal, his best friend, massacring the Palestinians everyday, with a supposedly count of 50,000 but really could be in the 200,000. Not shocking? Netanyahu is hundreds of times more evil and dictatorial than Putin.

Would dictator Trump put a stop to the genocide in Gaza? Never, he is part of the gang killing the Palestinians and his reward, is a piece of Gaza for the Trump family to develop into a real estate for profit.

And many Anglophiles in ASEAN love and trust Trump and the Americans for massacring Muslims.
