Archaic thinkers’ view of modern China

Last Sunday there were two articles about China’s new law to protect overseas Chinese or people of Chinese descent as part of the Chinese Civilisation in the Sunday Times. One piece was written by Cheong Suk Wai as a commentary on Leo Suryadinata’s book, The Rise of China and The Chinese Overseas. Another piece was by another eminent Chinese scholar, Prof Wang Gung Wu related the same topic and the book.

In gist, both professors were looking at the new Chinese law from an archaic and coloured perspective tinted by centuries of a weak China and in a way accepted that the victimization and persecution of overseas Chinese is a faith that overseas Chinese must accept. I will deal with these perceptions later, but let me first look at a few points that I think are rubbish even if coming from eminent professors of Chinese history and civilization. “Leo Suryadinata says: Wow, China is there to protect us immediately’. The ethnic Chinese overseas can be safe only if they know how to protect themselves.”

I call this kind of thinking rubbish primarily because the overseas Chinese cannot protect themselves even if they think they know and can protect themselves. That is why there is a long history of ethnic cleansing in SE Asia and the overseas Chinese were simply helpless, witless, with no ways to avoid being persecuted, being murdered in broad daylight even up to 1998 and last year when the threats of another racial bloodbath was close to become a reality in the Low Yat Incident in kuala Lumpur. And the recent election of the Jakarta governor when Ahok was found unacceptable by some extremist groups and again the threat of shedding Chinese blood was on the card not forgetting the burning of Chinese Indonesian homes in Batam recently. Can the overseas Chinese really know how to protect themselves? Yes, by running away, hiding or begging for mercy and be very grateful if the death would be a few lesser and a few women folks raped.

See how rubbish is this kind of archaic thinking. Even the intervention by the Chinese Ambassador in KL was deemed unfavourably, that he should not say anything. What would this professor think would have happened if the Chinese Ambassador did not step in? The Malaysian Chinese able to avoid another ethnic bloodbath? They know how to protect themselves?

Both professors cautioned against China’s policy of protecting overseas Chinese as a selfish act, to want to have more overseas Chinese to help in the OBOR project and that China’s interest is only there to protect its own interest. Should the interest deviates like the cases of the ethnic cleansing in Indonesia in the Suharto era and during the Pol Pot regime, China would look the other way.

There are some elements of truth in the sense that it would definitely be good if the interest of China and the overseas Chinese coincide. This would make things simpler. The point that China is using the charm offensive to woo overseas Chinese to support the OBOR project is true but not the most important consideration in this policy change. A handful of good overseas Chinese is all that China needs to change its fortune just like the return of Qian Xue Sen and a few of his fellow scientists in the 1950s that changed the fortune of China today. Just like the few rich overseas Chinese in recent times that pumped in capital in the early stages of China’s modernization. They are the ones that contributed greatly to what China is today. And the China of today does not really need much assistance from overseas Chinese to continue on its path to modernization and to be the next economic and military superpower. It already is.

What is this new policy and law of protecting overseas Chinese all about? To Leo Suryadinata, this policy is detrimental to the overseas Chinese as it stokes ‘suspicion and resentment among indigenous peoples of the Chinese in their midst, no thanks to the latter’s enterprise, wealth and economic dominance.’ Leo actually gave the answer for the suspicion and resentment, not due to the new Chinese law. The suspicion and resentment of overseas Chinese, even if they have been in their adopted countries for generations did not go away and would not go away if recent threats of ethnic cleansing are to go by.  And this is one of the main reasons for China to make this stand. But this stand did not go against China’s earlier position that the overseas Chinese should be loyal citizens of their new country. That did not change.

China today is no longer a weak and hapless nation, unable to protect its people all over the world. The days when China and the Chinese have to swallow bitter pills and be victims of racial and ethnic discrimination and genocide, and suffered quietly are over. The days when it was natural, and a habit, to attack and kill overseas Chinese are over. China’s new law is about the pride of a civilization, the right to be treated as equals, respectfully as any human beans, that China and the Chinese Civilisation would not be willing and hapless victims of racial and ethnic cleansing.  The old thinking that the Chinese should accept their fate of being at the mercy of primitive instinct must be erased from the minds of not only the primitive tribes, but also from the meek and dismissive overseas Chinese thinking. If the overseas Chinese have to say sorry and apologise to the primitive tribes for violating them, raping their women, looting and burning their homes and killing them whenever they feel like doing, then they deserved to be massacred by these tribes.

China does not adopt this law to disrupt or to stoke tension and disloyalties among the overseas Chinese in their new countries. It is only a natural thing, that China is a new superpower and please don’t think you can kill overseas Chinese anytime you like. Other than this, this policy would be just there as a warning to stop the primitive tribes to think they can still kill Chinese at will.

The overseas Chinese should look at this new law positively and not to have wild imaginations or think too highly of themselves that they are so important to China as a fifth column. China is doing the right thing as a superpower, to be able to protect the Chinese Civilisation from persecution and genocide, nothing more, nothing less. China would look real bad if the primitive tribes are out on a rampage to kill overseas Chinese again and it could not do a thing like in the past.

The primitive tribes did not care about the feelings and sensitivities of the Chinese when they were out there doing the raping and killings. Why should the overseas Chinese be so sensitive to their primitive feelings and sensitivities? Now that China is strong and powerful, it is about time the primitive tribes be sensitive to the feelings and sensitivities of China and the Chinese Civilisation. The Chinese Civilisation should be treated equally with mutual respect and regards, no more rapings and killings because they are Chinese. Period. But for those overseas Chinese who think they could look after themselves and want to continue to be sensitive to the feelings of the primitive natives and subject themselves to their mercy, please continue, bend your head low, bend down and be prepared to be screwed, and go about your life quietly, timidly and meekly, and pray they have mercy on you by sparing your lives when they got the itch to kill you. That is your chosen status quo of an era gone by when kicking your ass, raping your women, robbing your possessions, burning your homes and killing you in broad daylight at their whims and fancy, was and can continue to be the norm. You pathetic beans are afraid, very afraid that they would kill you again if you upset them intentionally or unintentionally or on the slightest excuse.

China is not telling the overseas Chinese Civilisation to be rude, to be arrogant, to rebel, to oppose their govt and be a destructive force in their new countries. Just be good and responsible citizens and be left to live your life normally, but if threatened by primitive instinct, there is China looking over their shoulders, that there is a China to tell them to stop their savage acts. Now would the overseas China want that?

I am not going to waste them explaining the stupid assertion that the OBOR is a new tributary system or shades of it of China. Come off it, the OBOR project was painfully and tediously negotiated with every govt on an equal and willing partner basis with each govt looking very carefully at what they stood to gain in this project. Does Leo Suryadinata really believe that the govt of the 60 plus countries are dumb and stupid and did not know what they were doing and were forced by China to participate in the so called new tributary system? If they are, they would be shot by their own people for treason.  And Beijing got this project off without consulting the govts of these countries? I quote, “However, it is also true that this was suggested by Beijing, without consulting other countries.” Please do not insult their intelligence and integrity.

Come on, say something more credible. The days of colonialism were over many decades ago when the colonial power used to put a gun over the local chieftains or kings and said sign or else, and they signed. Could China do this to any independent country to sign onto the OBOR project?

South Korea calling the USA bluff

For a few decades since the end of WW2, the Americans have been conning their daft allies that the American military forces and bases are there to protect these daft countries. This myth would have continue and gone unchallenged if Duterte has not become the President of the Philippines. Duterte was the first Asian leader to call the American bluff by telling the Americans to pack up and fuck off. The Americans panicked and begged for the Special Forces to be allowed to stay, presumably to help to fight the Muslim insurgency and the Abu Sayaf. Incidentally the American Special Forces have been in the Philippines for ages and the Muslim insurgency seems to grow in strength despite the presence of the Special Forces, just like the growing power of ISIS in the ME. And rightly Duterte was asking whether the Special Forces were in the Philippines to fight the insurgency or there to breed, arm and train the rebels.

The myth that they were there to help the Philippines was exposed when they refused to leave. Their main purpose is to protect the interest of the American Empire. And rightly Duterte is demanding that the Americans must pay for being allowed to be present in the Philippines.

Then came this greenhorn Donald Trump who really believes that the American military bases overseas are there to protect those countries and started to demand that these countries pay for American protection. Their adamant and persistence to locate the THAAD system in South Korea and Trump's demand for a payment of US$1b have hit the wall. The South Koreans refused to pay and the Americans have to back out and have agreed to pay for the THAAD deployment. Why not, the THAAD systems were there to protect the American Empire, not really to protect the South Koreans. And rightly the South Koreans called the American bluff as they knew that it was the Americans that wanted the THAAD to be in the Korean Peninsula.
The South Koreans should demand that the Americans pay for the privilege to have bases and THAAD deployed on their soil. And more, for risking the destruction of South Korea and the Korean people as they would be primary targets should war breaks out.

Now, who will be next to call the American bluff and refused to pay? Abe has been under pressured by Trump to pay and so is NATO countries. If only these countries tell the Americans to go packing by refusing to pay, Trump and the Americans would be red faces, not wanting to leave and unable to collect a cent. Why don't these countries demand that the Americans pay for the right to have bases in their countries to protect the American Empire and expand their influence and military power?

What about silly Asean countries begging the Americans to stay and willing to pay? Some of these little USAs are so dumb and could not see that they are paying to support the American Empire when it should be the Americans that should be paying for the privilege of having a military presence in the region. As they said, suckers are born everyday and some are willing suckers without knowing why.

MH370 crash site must be in the Atlantic Ocean

10 years after the disappearance of MH370, an aircraft flying to Beijing but was confirmed by the western experts to be heading into the Indian/Antarctic Oceans on the belief or theory that the pilot either had gone mad or was harbouring a suicide agenda and wanting to be buried in the peaceful clear and freezing water of the Antarctic, the latest information confirmed that it is without any further doubt that the aircraft must have crashed in the Atlantic Ocean.

For the past 10 years, the Australians, somehow became the unquestioned experts of this incident, had been misleading, oops, leading the search parties all over the Indian and Antarctic Oceans, combing every nook and corner, from one confirmed site to another but found nothing. Now that billions of dollars have been spent and the whole of the Indian and Antarctic Oceans have been searched and mapped, paid by the search parties’ countries, to a big part to the Australian companies leading the search, the Australians have run out of sea space in the Indian Ocean to be searched. So the latest report came out from another dubious expert suggested, with full authority and scientific data to support, that the MH370 must have crashed in the Atlantic Ocean, somewhere near the Lost City of Atlantis.

The new theory, the two pilots were explorers in search of the Lost City. They flew the aircraft into hyperspace to take a ride from the gulf stream that could carry the aircraft across the African continent without having to burn out all its fuel. The experts are now urging the Malaysian and Chinese companies to foot the bill for a new search expedition in the Atlantic Ocean and also to map the Ocean sea bed for their own interests. Another billion dollar expedition is on the way, paid by the Malaysian and Chinese govts and led by the Australian experts. The year is 2025.

PS. When would this wicked deceit be exposed?

Dirty Harry Harris admitted he ordered Carl Vinson to North Korea

It was reported in the media that Admiral Harry Harris, the Japanese Commander of the American Pacific Command was the one that ordered aircraft carrier Carl Vinson to head towards North Korea. Harris said it was his mistake for giving the wrong order. What Harris did not say was that he was abruptly overruled and had to change course.

The incident was crispy clear that Harris took the opportunity to want to start a war with North Korea. He unilaterally, without authorisation from Washington where the Commander in Chief of all American forces sat, without an order from Donald Trump, he decided to sail Carl Vinson to North Korea. He did not know or was not aware that someone under this Command would quickly inform the White House of his treacherous action which the Americans were wary of and had put in this safeguard, in case he did the darn thing, to stop him on his war path.

The Americans did just that, to stop Harris from dragging the Americans into a war they did not want with China and Russia. The Japanese Harris thought the Americans were that dumb to allow him a free hand to start a war anytime he likes. No way, the Americans read him like a book.

Now Harris has to apologise for this dangerous move that he thought he could get away with, to get the Americans to go to war with China and Russia. The result would be the destruction of America, China more damaging than the sneak attack on Pearl Harbour. The Americans would not be so dumb to allow it to happen against their interests.

After this incident, the Americans would be even more cautious of what this man would do and would watch his every move to make sure no unplanned incident would happen under his watch. America would not be destroyed by another Japanese sneaky act.

Time to tighten immigration policy?

Shawn Lee wrote a piece published in the TRE urging the govt to tighten immigration policy when every sensible govt in the West, especially our idol country called the USA, are doing it. This is what Shawn wrote in his first paragraph,

‘Over the past weeks, Australia, New Zealand and the U.S. have all tightened their work visa programs for skilled foreigners. Australia scrapped its 457 visa for employer-sponsored skilled foreign labour program; U.S. President Trump announced a “Buy American, Hire American” Executive Order to review the H1-B visa which is used primarily to bring in foreign IT professionals into high tech sectors like Silicon Valley; and New Zealand has also started to tighten skilled work visa requirements in a “Kiwis-first approach to immigration”.’

I thought we were thinking in the same wavelength when he said, ‘This is the best time for Singapore to jump onto the bandwagon and tighten our immigration criteria to avoid being singled out and blamed by global MNCs here for cutting their access to cheap foreign labour who compete for jobs with Singaporeans.’

This is the part that I disagree with him. I think this is the best time for the govt to open the legs wider, oops, I mean the door wider to capitalize on the situation when all the fake talented foreigners from the Third World have been locked out and no where to go, they would all come here to help make up the 6.9m population. This type of opportunity does not come often. Now we can pick up all the 'talents' and craps floating around in the high seas. We can pick and choose, just make sure we have a working system to fish out all the fakes and degree mills talents. We don’t need such flotsam. There are already too many here. Now we can take our time to pick and choose with a fine comb.

One caveat, make sure we have the right talent to spot the fake talents. We need the thieves to catch the thieves. Recruit some of the best fake talents first, then use them to stop all the fakes that are trying to get in. Oh, I think we already have a lot of them here furiously recruiting more fakes. Just tell them this time the objective is to identify and reject the fakes or simply reject all the fakes they have chosen as talents.

We can set up a Ministry of Fake Talents and appoint a minister to run it with a pool of fake talents. Then we can guarantee to pick up the best in a situation like this. When the angels are fleeing, it is time for the daft, oops, I mean the brave to go in.

What do you think?
