Guests at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum were “insulted or offended” by the ex-UK PM
Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson gave a speech condemning China as a “coercive autocracy,” describing the rising world power as a “monocultural state” and “former communist tyranny".
New York billionaire Michael Bloomberg has reportedly been forced to apologize to the guests, acknowledging that some guests may have been “insulted or offended” by Johnson’s comments.
“To those of you who were upset and concerned by what the speaker said, you have my apologies,” Bloomberg said, adding that the ex-PM’s incendiary remarks were “his thoughts and his thoughts alone.”
Johnson, who was forced to resign as PM in July amid multiple scandals, would have gotten away with such a speech on his Anglo-Saxon home turf, UK's The Guardian speculated. But speaking to regional leaders at a conference in Singapore, “the majority of Asian countries are much more favorably inclined toward China and share strong economic and diplomatic ties.”
Conference guests called his speech “shocking” and “belligerent.” “People clearly felt uncomfortable,” one attendee told the newspaper. “He used very undiplomatic language about China, at a conference in Asia. A former British foreign secretary and prime minister should have known better.”
Johnson gave his speech the evening before the current UK PM, Rishi Sunak, planned to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the G20 Summit in Indonesia. The meeting was canceled, which a UK government spokesman blamed on “scheduling issues.”

China and Russia had been accused of using 'Might is Right' tactics is dealing with smaller countries. I think that is the tactic overly used by the USA already for centuries and is just the pot calling the kettle black.
They never look into the mirror when making such accusations. Never and ever. They think that 'Might is Right' is their prorogative to use and no other country has that privilege. Just like exerting influence, which no other country can follow.
'Might is Right' had been used by the USA against Iraq and Libya, clear and simple. They even concocted fabricated evidence of WMD to support their 'Might is Right' policies. Hypocrisy of the highest order that ever existed in this world.

How come he's not charged for making racist remarks in the rules-based city state like the poly lecturer? He's not a diplomat, so does he still have diplomatic immunity?

The whole British establishment, just like the USA, is infested by anti-China elements from top to bottom. Before Johnson, it was not as rampant, with Theresa May all about Brexit. But since Johnson, they have Lizard Truss and Dodgy Sunak, all hardcore anti-China doggies of the USA.
It looks like in the USA and Little Britain, only those spouting the one with the best anti-China rhetorics will have any change of being elected into power. The more hardcore they are, the better their chances will be. Domestic problems seems irrelevant for these politicians, and China is the main distraction for those politicians to steer their citizens away from their incompetence. The USA and Little Britain's political landscape is now no more than circus of clowns, aping each other.
If you believed Western media and the loud Sinosceptics, China is run by a ruthless dictator and China’s economy is on the verge of collapse. However, looking at how Western leaders at G20 summit were lining up for lucrative deals and a photo op with Xi Jinping, the mainstream narratives sound hollow.
Joe Biden had a three-hour meeting with Xi Jinping; Australian PM met with Xi and then said that he’s against Taiwan as a non-nation joining the CPTPP free trade treaty; Dutch PM’s meeting with Xi was followed by a Dutch minister saying that the Netherlands won’t follow US diktats on exports (referring to the US demand that Dutch ASML stop selling semiconductor chip-making machines to China); and Italy’s new leader announcing her upcoming trip to China. Even Indian PM Modi vigorously shook hands and chatted with Xi Jinping for the first time since the deadly border skirmish in 2020.
In short, China’s global status has been skyrocketing over the last month. So much for America’s containment strategy.
They must be reminded of the rogue Scot Morrison, now a pariah in Australia.
The Aussies dumped him after he ruined their economy and many big companies trading with China and many ordinary Australians doing biz with China.
China would sanction Boris, Truss and Sunak and turned them into Scot Morrisons.
