A UNITED ASEAN STAND ON TAIWAN NEEDED

ASEAN STAND ON TAIWAN IS NEEDED

The United States has offered more than US$150 million to ASEAN countries for initiatives including maritime cooperation and clean energy as Washington seeks to advance its position in the wider geopolitical competition with China. US President Joe Biden is hosting US-ASEAN Summit with his counterparts from the 10-member ASEAN bloc.

US$60 million, as compared to US$60B for Ukraine, would be directed to “promote a free and open Indo-Pacific” – a phrase Washington has used to assert maritime rights, including military exercises, in a region where China and at least four ASEAN members have overlapping sovereignty claims in the South China Sea.

ASEAN should make it absolutely clear that the 10 nations would not support any US military and economic actions that may be directed at China over its domestic matter with Taiwan. Specifically, ASEAN must be prepared to bar any military air and sea vessels into the ASEAN region in the event of a US/Allied-China conflict. ASEAN should also state in crystal-clear unambiguous words that it does not welcome any form of NATO presence in the region.

In fact, the latest money will allow the United States Coast Guard (and US Navy?) to assign more resources to the region for training and security cooperation, the White House announcement said. The US Coast Guard will also send an attaché to the US mission to ASEAN, and work with the State Department on new initiatives to fight illegal fishing activities.

ASEAN should insist Taiwan starts reunification talks with China immediately for the sake of the regional welfare. Many people in ASEAN are fed up with the US+Japanese backed traitorous DPP regime for continuing to kick the can down the road.

Coastguard to fight illegal fishing activities? What a joke! Call a spade a spade please. This will be followed with more USA involvement in more nefarious activities. Once the USA can establish a foothold, they will expand their activities to more than fighting illegal fishing.

The motive will be using ASEAN to encircle China, the biggest fish they are trying to fight.

Clearly it not US's fault, if it is allow by ASEAN to operate militarily in S E Asia.
ASEAN shall be the Only Culprit
responsible for
playing stooge to the US.
Period.

The American pirates from the other side of the Pacific Ocean want to patrol the seas on this side of the Ocean. They think the Asean countries are daft, to let them control the seas here and to meddle with the affairs of the region.

Just take those USA sponsored summits with eunuchs with lots of salt. Lots of rhetoric but no substance.

Biden's promises to his own people were mostly never even kept. Do you think he cares about ASEAN? USA's objective is to poison some of the simple minded minds against China. It is always about China in the end, nothing more nothing less.

It is always a united stand. For whose benefit?

The United Nation is the biggest platform to stand on. But for whose benefit?
