Sin City is a low crime city
When overcharging or over billing is no crime. When cheating customers buying iPhones with phony insurance scheme is no crime. When beating up motorists by cyclists is no crime, it is only natural that crime rates will be low. It is utterly disgusting to see rogue shop owners in Sim Lim Square, like those reported in the media, cheating their customers in broad daylight, and the authority could not do anything about it. And the poor customers would have to go down on their knee, at least one tourist did that, to beg for mercy. And when CASE intervened, the victim just got back half the money paid without the goods. And everyone thinks they have done a good job and the poor victim should be happy with half his money back and the other half still inside the pocket of the robber. Have they changed the meaning of robbery in the dictionary?
And no one is shouting vile in any of these instances. Over billing or overcharging by the millions or hundreds of thousands, not vile. Cheating a vulnerable old lady by the millions, not vile? Then what is vile? Oh, heckling Special Needs Children is vile.
But low crime is not no crime. We have serious crimes like making a nuisance in a Speakers’ Corner when demonstrating too loudly and disturbing other Park users. Six people have been charged in court for this serious crime. Another crime currently in process in the court is a Town Council headed by a democratically elected MP holding a small fair in her constituency and being charged for not filling a form properly, meaning no permission to do so. Luckily no one said this is vile also.
Victims of those cheating crimes at Sim Lim Square, or I may be wrong to call them cheating since it is not a crime, can only find their own justice by suing the ‘cheats’. And if they are lucky, the public will stand up for them, to raise fund to cover the money lost to the ‘cheats’. My apologies, I do not know how to call the shop keepers as I am not sure they are cheats. Some lawyers are out defending them and warning the public not to harass them emotionally. The poor Vietnamese victim that went down on his knee was not emotionally harassed for sure.
And the public spirited citizens are now resorting to taking matters into their own hands by shaming the shopkeepers. This is the best they could do to protect themselves. And they are warned not to go over board or they could run foul of the law. What kind of justice is this? The law seems to be in favour of the rogue merchants but anyone trying to take justice into their own hands would risk the law coming down hard on them. This is a Rule of Law state. I am still trying to figure out what this meant.
Has this Sin City progressed to Shame City of low crimes? Did anyone bother if this Shoppers’ Paradise is turning into a Pirate’s Cave? Does it? Rip Van Winke did not know that such foul practices have been happening for years. Just a few incidents only leh. No big deal lah. Who cares? Bo Cheng Hu is the best.
Isn’t it scary to think that these shops could cheat so openly with impunity and could continue to do the same after repeated complaints against them? What is going on? And shoppers are advised to take precautions themselves when shopping. How about hiring a couple of bodyguards and lawyers when go shopping to be safe?
‘China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially put up a notice warning their nationals to be careful when buying electronics such as mobile phone in Singapore.
A similar message is being shared around Vietnam as the news of the Vietnamese tourist being scammed then crying and begging on his knees for a refund made national headlines in Vietnam.’
The above quotes are posted in The Real Singapore.

Sad Really Sad
I am very very surprised that
such cases took place in
Singapore and we are helpless
about them......
Why are we like that now....
Sad, really sad.......
Would it make any difference if that guy is an opposition supporter?
Everything is going badly wrong because of the vile , sorry I mean famous and honourable dictum, "What's wrong with taking more money from the people?" Taking more money from the defenseless people without logic and solid basis is pure utter greed and is no different from daylight robbery or pirates or high way robbery. COEs, GSTs and ERPs ( Every Day Rob People )sprouting like mushrooms all over the island and at every odd hour of the day and night is plain senseless and has a very detrimental impact on business and people's livelihood.
Poor Blue Singaporean.
What's wrong with making more money??? Is that the worst infliction you can think off? What about petrol prices..oil companies gang raped more than 300000 vehicle owners every day..oil prices have dropped from $120 to $85..so what's happening to all our watchdogs? What is the cost of electricity n gas today. Are these companies any worse than Sim Lim shopkeepers? At least with Sim Lim...u have a choice. I suppose you do have a choice with the daylight robbers..walk, live in the dark, dig your own well water n use twigs n branches for fire.. Donch worry.. CASE is doing a mighty fine job...heheh
In this concrete jungle, the Two Legged Hyenas rule absolutely.
They shall enjoy devouring the sheep at their own time and pleasure.
Shall echo Commenter b's Advice again, leave Sin as soon as possible.

Think everyone is grabbing all the money they can and waiting to flee. This place is going to the dogs or will be left for the dogs.
That shop trying to con (collect) more money. Follow only what.
A few shops like that and the years of reputation and the Singapore Brand go down the gutters.
Safe! Here we rob you without you knowing and kill you without a drip of blood.
Sim Lim Mobile Air took $550 from a customer and no crime committed.
And Case so happy about it. It has done its best.
Sinapore shd be known as the OVERCHARING CITY .
Just look at the politician pay, the SGX top mgmt pay, top Civil Servants pay, GLC , SimLim Square, COE, Medical bills , Lawyers bills, HDB prices, etc etc
As the saying goes...if the top is rotten, the rest will follow.
The funny thing is that this kind of cheating has been going on for a long time. Yet the law cannot do anything.
But I find it rather ironic that when the opposition town councils commit a minor fault, action is fast and furious.
Someone asked here, would it make any difference if that guy is a known opposition supporter. I think the whole scenario changes beyond recognition with CASE, the police and PAP MPs demanding stern action and calling it 'a serious concern'.
The authorities is powerless if it does not benefit them. Its a 'you settle it yourself' thing. But they will be so powerful if it benefits them - either politically or if it gives them opportunity to squeeze out more money from your pockets - you bet how fast they will act.
Sincity is full of Sinners and Sins.
It has become glaringly obvious, some countries are warning their citizens to be careful when in Sin.

Justice is a commodity. All politicians are mafias in disguise. Only something like a cultural revolution can narrow the gap to this huge rich poor divide.
Hi RB, speed. Shopping at Sim Lim Square is quite an experience. One should do homework before going there to buy the goods. You must have all information about specification, price, manufacturer's warranty etc. If you go there blind, you WILL get cheated. I was there once, and the retailer even tried to give me my change in Brunei currency.
Sim Lim has given Singapore a very bad reputation.
CASE is really a joke. What is it's existence for? A real laughing stock if nothing else.
Sim Lim Square is a modern day expression of the old Sungei Road. Sungei Road gave me a better education in electronics than school could ever do. I was 14 when I built my first amplifier -- all from parts bought at the rag-tag Sungei Road. By age 16 I had a very happening sound system in my bedroom -- big speakers, loud amps...all hand made by me from shit bought at SR. I was a big reel-to-reel fan in those days. My music collection was HAPPENING: Deep Purple, Led Zep, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, James Brown...
If not for Sungei Road, I wouldn't have been able to invite SCGS and Convent girls back to my bedroom for "rabah and korek" sessions.
Sungei Road was -- in a large part -- responsible for me getting my first blow jobs, hand jobs and eventually a total loss of my virginity by a (at the time) very sexy schoolgirl from Katong Convent -- who is now a top figure in a top corporation. I'd like to think that the enthusiastic banging we mutually enjoyed had something to do with her success:-) (East Coast girls rock my world!!)
Therefore, I have a very soft spot for Sim Lim. I have bought so much "illegal stuff" there over the years from hot software to powerful burning lasers.
Sim Lim now is a lot more "civilised" than the "good old days". Many of the traders in Sim Lim give a big FUCK YOU to the govt, and when it comes to buying FUN but illegal stuff, they have my 100% support. IMO, the govt has no business telling you what you can own or sell and what you can't -- as long as you're not committing violence on people who don't deserve RETRIBUTION.
So if you're a fucking wimped-out pussy, stay the fuck away from Sim Lim and go shop at that yuppified bullshit place known as Funan Digital Mall, and take your vagina-brain to Challenger and pay outrageous prices due to the outrageous rents.
In all my years of shopping at Sungei Road and Sim Lim, I have never been even close to being RIPPED OFF. Maybe one day I will, and then eat my words, but until then, I will continue to spend my money supporting those thugs and gangsters, and the rest of you girly-men can fuck off to Funan and take your "sensitive" feelings and vaginas with you!
Just posted a followup article and a PS on how highly regarded this Jover guy is by the main media. He is so clever that he committed no crime. Really ah?
