Foreign sportsmen - Paying for whatever we want

This is a follow up to the ‘pay solution’ to solve the haze problem. Either we pay the plantation owners on the ground or the regional commanders or those in Jakarta, the idea is to pay as little for the best result. Paying the plantation owners to clear the land without fire is likely to be the cheapest option.

This is the mantra to the success story of Singapore as a City of international citizens. Everyone is welcome as long as he/she is a talent. Our latest talent is the short putter from China in a non revenue pursuit called sports. Why would a country, sorry, I meant city, want to spend so much money on an unnecessary and wasteful pursuit, all for some fetish glory really beats me. I thought those were the days when we were kids and anything that could boost our ego a little was worth pursuing. We flew kites, fought spiders, played all kinds of games to be the winner. That damn shiok feeling for a fleeing moment was enough for all the effort.

As a first world city, should be sikit atas in the head, are we really thinking or sick up there to spend millions on such silly things when the money could be better spent on training our own citizens instead of international citizens? So what if our citizens could not win medals, at least the money is well spent to encourage and promote sports as a healthy lifestyle? And to think that the money could be made available to help the needies, it is quite a sickening feeling.

Would the MPs, or would the non ruling party MPs, raise this issue in Parliament, that the Govt must account for spending on the unnecessary and the wasteful, like paying international citizens to win medals? If they are desperate for medals, it would be cheaper to buy from Sungei Road or from those past winners of third world countries on hard times.

There was a photo of several ATM machines being destroyed in the Today paper last week with this caption.

‘This bank of ATMs was destroyed by vandals during clashes in Rio de Janeiro on Monday. Youths clashed with police in Rio as over 200,000 people marched in Brazilian cities to protest against the billions of dollars spent to host next year’s World Cup and the 2016 Olympics, while areas such as education, hospitals and security see little improvement.’

The Brazilians are angry with their govt for wanton spending on the unnecessary while education, hospitals and security of the country and people are neglected. They want their govt to prioritise and spend public money wisely and not on gimmicks and fantasies.’

Our people are more civil and restrained and would just go as far as Hong Lim to sign petition and sing songs of protest. It is still a very long way to agitate and anger our people to force them to march through the streets and run riot. We can still have the few MPs in Parliament to raise question, of course nothing would come out of it except to make a few red faces for unpopular policies. Let’s make this wasteful spending of public money an issue in Parliament and put a stop to it once for all. The money of the people must not be foolishly spent by adolescents to satisfy their fetish craze for a few sports medals. Our public money must be carefully distributed or used to benefit our citizens and not international citizens.

Demand that this issue be put to a vote and those who voted to pay foreigners to win medals should use their own money to support their crazy hobby and not to touch public funds.

RB, what is wasteful pursuit, fetish glory, or whatever lah to you is somebody's KPI, you know.

And the KPI is used to justify pay increments and bonuses for that somebody or bodies, you know.

And best of all, that somebody even has the authority to use taxpayer's money as budget for that purpose. Remember, Vivian Balakrishnan had hundred of millions dollars budget for Youth Olympics in 2010? And can even overspend the budget, no problem.

So what is the budget just to get a foreigner to win a medal or medals? Peanuts, tio bo?

So is it clear now, RB?

So RB, one needs to be a minister or top civil servant in order to see things in perspective. Or put themselves in their shoes, like me, to see the same.

If you do not agree with the PAP's perspective, you can defeat the PAP in the next election to become a minister in a new party and government. Then you can set your own perspective, and different from the PAP.

Unfortunately till now, no party is stronger than the strongest opposition WP, let alone the PAP, to even have the slightest chance of defeating the PAP in an election.

That's why "PAP, the most confident supreme political party ever".

This was even the subject title of a recent blog post by RB.

To have a stronger party than the opposition WP is as difficult, maybe even more difficult, than solving the haze problem.

And despite being an internal problem which only Sinkies can solve, unlike the haze problem.

Ah kong money always easy to spend mah

Some things may not change. Examples.

There will be haze.

WP will remain the strongest opposition.

PAP will remain the ruling party.

More foreigners will come to live, work, park their monies, or even win medals for Sinkieland.

And Sinkieland will become more crowded and hazy at times due to too many foreigners and too much haze.

Because Sinkies cannot prevent foreigners or the haze from coming if they really want to come.

And RB, as long as he is alive and healthy to blog, will continue to blog and to question the PAP, the haze and whatever that is not right lah.

One time stop Parliament proceedings just to watch the PRC instant citizens fighting for medals in the table tennis tournament

In the end, also red faces also LOST.

Get these second or third rated throw aways with no metal, oops mental strength to win medals???

Faced against their temporary ex-compatriots, they shake in their pants or skirts.

Have to wayang a bit, time to go home cannot beat them and later got hard time bringing the fortunes back.

The shot putter is a drop in the ocean of overspending and stupid spending that is done All The Time in this country, in every area.

Way back, a former Speaker of the House who returned to being an MP, brought up the govt's thoughtless, wasteful spending. He saved some buildings from being needlessly pulled down.

Back then, I recall taking the fire escape stairs at the police HQ in Neil Road. They had marble floors!!! In a fire escape??? That's a bit much.

This country behaves like all new rich - crass, wasteful, arrogant, thoughtless, simply spend because you can. We pull down buildings and rebuild them like nothing. We buy and buy. We don't think through decisions because we can spend to rectify our mistakes. nd of course, we want to SHOW others we've got the bucks.

We wont even get work stopped at construction sites becos it will cut into profits. Really, the foreigners working out there should go on strike. Let's see the govt send them all back.

LKY has boasted how if there is a food crunch, then we'll just pay whatever higher prices asked for. He forgot that people may not Want to Sell food to you. Though yeah, especially in this day and age, everyone has his price. But would you pay $1 for 1 stalk of kangkong?

Now the haze has indicated how much Spore NEEDS the forests and greenery it has. Rooftop gardens, vertical gardens are fine and good, but there's nothing like a large stand of trees, like forests. I doubt though that this will stop this country from getting rid of what little exists.

So yeah, get used to the heat, the pollution. It's going to be with us for a long long time. Get used to not being in good health. Get used to paying foreign athletes fortunes for a medal. It's been going on for a years now anyway. Otherwise, we all have to speak up VERY LOUDLY.

The people of Brazil have woken up. It is highly doubtful if Sporeans ever will. We've been trained for years not to think and definitely not to act. And we don't have the guts to take to the streets to make our point.

We still believe that because someone said so, it is so. And we all know, this is not the case. We've yet to leave the kindergarten of life.

I doubt it, but even if someone did raise the issue, the answer will be unsurprising -- almost expected. Fact of the matter: the money is already spent ==> sunken cost.

Will it happen again? As sure as the sun will rise tomorrow, and the day after.

>> It is still a very long way to agitate and anger our people to force them to march through the streets and run riot. <<

Your average Singaporean is wealthier than your average Brazilian. Also Singaporean culture tends to foster "restraint" when it comes to overt emotional display. The latino Brazilians are different: they are expressive to a fault. If you don't truly express your feelings in latin culture, you won't be trusted by many people.

Never forget that Singapore has never fought a civil war or had mass uprisings which galvanised the nation. OK, there were a few race riots way back when, but cannot compare to a cuntree like Brazil whose civil liberties were paid for in blood -- many times over.

>> Demand that this issue be put to a vote and those who voted to pay foreigners to win medals should use their own money to support their crazy hobby and not to touch public funds

Good luck with that. BTW, what is your "leverage" to get the government to comply? I submit that there is NONE, so therefore the government will continue to spend how it deems fit. And why shouldn't they?

Aiyoh, the sky just clear for one day and it is enough for RB to see another FT to trash. This time it is short putter.Yah why do we need short putter from China? Just train up our local bayi who are strong and tough to throw any putt or javelin and may even a good medal in Olympic. This will certainly gladden an old man's heart when he hear majullah play at olympic award ceremony. Oh why do we need to spend so much money in Jilin, China for vegetable farms. We could grow vegetable in Indonesea islands and stop the haze.

People are already brainwashed by the papayas for too long. How to undo the damage? Papayas tell them to eat shit and drown themselves tomorrow and they will do so. Better migrate to somewhere. At least your next generation can be a normal person that can think with logic.
