Lesson 2 from China

I would like to bring you back to the 1930s, the days of Shanghai Tang or Shanghai Bund. Those were glorious days of a new but corrupt China under the Kuomintang. Chiang Kai Shek was presumably the President of China and the corrupt elite who thought more of themselves, preserving their personal wealth was the order of the day. There was no accountability and the wealth of the nation was like the private wealth of the elite, Chiang’s family and the Soong family were infamous. The line between what belonged to the country and what belonged to these families were non existence.

No one knew how much money was in the national coffer. They became private fortunes. And when the Kuomintang fell, these families took everything they could and fled. The CCCP were equally blur as to how much were taken out of the country, stolen, by the Kuomintang and the Soong family. The senior Soong was the finance minister then. Without knowing how much was lost, there was nothing that the CCCP could do. And with a hostile West in support of the Kuomintang, the CCCP could not send out hit men like the Israelists to track down the criminals.

Fast forward to 2050 when Singapore still exists but decadent and run by a corrupt govt like the Kuomintang. And the nation’s wealth, the reserves, was still in the country’s two sovereign funds. And the people still did not know how much were in these two funds. Then came the dreadful day when the govt collapsed, brought down by a popular uprising. And the fund managers, the people entrusted with the nation’s reserves in the two sovereign funds, just scooted with the money.

When that happened, when no one knew who were vested with the authority to move the funds, and when no one knew how much was at stake, and if the funds, the nation’s reserves, were to be shipped out of the country, how are these money to be recovered? How would the new govt go about tracking down the people responsible for the money and how much money they have taken out?

This may be a moot point now. But if the non transparent style and policy of managing our national reserves continue into the future, come 2050, there will be a little problem. It would be old China once again. Money stolen and gone, and no one is wiser, except the ones holding the money bag.

Back to the future. I thought we are already in 2050? No?

Actually KMT is not as corrupt as communist today. The reason of fall of KMT is due to japanese invasion acerbating the class tension in China.

The communist is nearly wipe out in the 5th encirclement war in 1934 and during the Xi-an campaign in 1936.

The Japanese invasion provide room for guerilla warfare in the occupied territory. In 1936, the communist is around tenths of thousand. In 1948 they are more 2 millions.

The Chiang should have hidden their wealth. But the 3rd generation like 蒋友柏 appears to live very honestly.

Best opposition party leader said PAP is a competent govt.

So who are we (Tom, Dick and Harry) to say otherwise?

Unless we can form and lead a stronger and better party than the best opposition party lah. Then we will have the credentials to say what we said.

If Singapore citizens are deliberately left clueless by PAP-led management in Temasek holdings of exactly how much reserves we have and cited national security as a reason YET hired foreigner/outsider as the DBS CEO and also another OUTSIDER as the Temasek CEO as who had left.

Then sanctity of our citizenship is trampled upon already.

As PAP govt has been elected by the majority 60% citizen voters, PAP therefore has not only the mandate and but also the credentials to hire foreigners/outsiders to be DBS CEO or Temasek CEO.

So Sinkie citizens who want to question all this need to get their mandate and credentials from the 60% majority Sinkie citizens.

So you see, ultimately it is the Sinkies who have the power to decide, not foreigners or outsiders, tio bo?

Tio, in the sense that Sporeans still got the right to vote in 2016but then meaning of what constitute Spore citizenship is starting to change from that of born and bred here to 'ínstant citizenship'.

There is notably an increasing foreign presence in Temasek top management.

St. Stephen's College in the eye of Temasek Holdings.

rohit sipahimalani
Co-Chief Investment Officer and Head, India at Temasek International educated at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, India
St. Stephen's College

This is not employment discrimnation against Singaporean citizens until MOM check it.

No Singaporeans citizens, talents with a right frame of mind would get a uni. qualification from India or China if he wants to be a top officer in division one in the civil service.

He or she would be rejected outright guaranteed because it is not recognised in the first place !

PAP govt is competent and knows what they are doing. And their competence and credentials are attested by the majority of Sinkies voting PAP, and acknowledged even by their strongest opponent, the WP.

That's why PAP is elected as the govt, and not remain as a blogger or anon commentator.

Ordinary Sinkies must therefore realise that sometimes they do not have sufficient knowledge and credentials to comment on what is good or no good, and which will also get them nowhere.

Anonymous said...

For sure PAP leaders are smart and they know something which ordinary Sinkies don't know.

That's why they are leaders, and ordinary Sinkies are just that and maybe destined to just suffer under PAP.

What experience does an eye surgeon or breast surgeon had in politics, in environment, in youth and sports, in defence......?

What experience does a HR Director had in politics, in terrorism, in home affairs, in foreign affairs.....?

Anonymous said...

Being in the right place, at the right time and know the right person.

The experience and the rest will then come naturally after that lah. Have you heard of OJT (on the job training)?

Applicable for minister jobs as well as technician jobs. Or whatever jobs lah. Must start somewhere lah. After all, no one is born to be minister, tio bo?

Right, basically it is not easy to prove employment discrimnation against Singaporeans citizens/ qualifications by employers.

All they need to say is : 'Although your resume is very impressive, we have found someone who best fit our needs'.

Temasek holding is giving top recognition to uni. -St. Stephen's College, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad which is not ranked in Asia top 10 unlike NTU, by appointing their graduates as top executive in a State-ownd sovereign funds, this is like..

"run by a corrupt govt like the Kuomintang"

- there is no gov that is not corrupted. anyone with power will be corrupted. any gov with power will be gorrupted. instead of waiting for them to change your fate, one should take responsibility and change your own fate. if one thinks this country is lousy, then just pack and go somewhere. no country is perfect so look for one that is suitable. everywhere is a slave society, some more worse than others.

That is why my company likes to hire foreigners.
So Singaporeans will never know how much money is really there.

If you don't know.
Then how will you recover the money that I take?

Smart right?

Another reason is foreigners are more willing to flaunt the rules and cook the books since if they going to get caught, they can easily disappear back to their third world country.

"Best opposition party leader said PAP is a competent govt. "

What they probably meant behind those words is PAP is a competent govt at fixing opp party and buying supporters' vote. this we can't deny having seen them do it repeated and business as usual for 5 decades.

after one cao cao, another cao cao will come. so long as we pick elite to be leaders, we will suffer. we should pick leaders based on their purity of soul not whether they are good scholars or bull shitters. easier said than done.
