AIM aimlessly

The official verdict of the AIM saga is out. There is no wrong doing in the sale of the management software to AIM. Everything is done properly. There is thus nothing for the Govt to take AIM or the Town Council to task. The prosecutor will have nothing to work on, nothing to prosecute.

The WP is going to raise this issue again in Parliament. They are likely to pore through every word in the review recommendation with a microscope to shift out whatever little inconsistency or suspicious nature in the transaction, maybe lucky to show some wrong doings. Unless they can prove so, to give the Govt and prosecutor something to work on, there is nothing really to go on in this case. The Govt has already accepted the findings of MND and it is all clear.

Somehow this all clear signal or verdict is not going down well in some quarters. I am not sure how big are these quarters and how much it will impact the image of the Govt? Expectedly it is only in the social media that dissatisfaction is heard. You don’t hear them in the main media. So does it matter?

You see, in cyberspace, there is this prejudgment going on. AIM was guilty long ago in the views of those in cyberspace with whatever information they had. There is no kangaroo court in cyberspace. But one could detect the feelings and sentiment, they called it perception, right or wrong perception. And mind you, it may be just a feeling, a gut feel, but it can be wild and infectious. It is all in the mind of those who want to see this case as guilty.

Of course it is not right to pronounce an innocent case as a bad case. When there is no wrong doing, one cannot fabricate a wrong doing to please the unthinking masses because that is what they want to hear. Hypothetically it would be nice, a good PR opportunity if there were some wrong doings, a little wrong doing, and someone got his knuckles smacked. That could appease some of the negative feelings, that justice was meted out. It would take a lot of heat off the cooker, relieve some steam. Well it is not to be. This case is just another normal administrative process, unlike the Brompton bikes or golden taps, and no dirt can stick on it.

I must say many people must be disappointed. But what to do? No case means no case. I think these people just want to see someone got hang and if no one is hung they would not be happy. Some even expected a small gesture like an apology from the Town Council or whoever is in charge. How to manage such unfounded and unjustified expectations?

Yes. How disappointing it must be to run a witch-hunt only to find that witches don't exist.

Why I vote for PAP:

Because even $2 companies with no employees are given a chance to win government contracts.

Where else in the world got such opportunities?
Is not Singapore the land of opportunities?

I do not agree the G aimed aimlessly just because you do not agree to the direction of its aim .All along the party in power focussed their fire power and aim to stay in power forever.Any admission of wrong doing will blow the case apart and diminish their chance of winning the next GE They were in power for about 45 years, what is so difficult to stay in power for another 50 years. The sinkie are so daft and powerless and give the MIW a free hand to do what their like.

Yes. How disappointing it must be to run a witch-hunt only to find PIGS!

For ghost and witch hunters, there is nothing more fun than to hear of sighting and apparition. And the saying that no smoke without fire holds true to many.

Public funds were used to hire a politically connected IT company to render services for the benefit and promotion of a political party's purposes.

'Nuff said.

Now that we have "groomed" and "nurtured" a $2 Singapore company to achieve greater heights in Singapore;

Isn't it time for AIM go overseas to tender for IT projects?
Win IT tenders.
Then outsource back to IT companies in Singapore.

Don't be so shy with your pedigree.
Just tell the whole world you are a PAP linked company.
And you are sure to be allowed to tender for any IT project in the world.

Me atheist; no ghost or witch hunter

Very upset whenever me hears of sighting and apparition because each time it happens, we can see that the whole town feels haunted.

It cannot be fun to feel haunted.

I saw a halo over AIM. Is it apparition or sighting?

I see white beings in the halo hovering over AIM.
Must be angels.
Because PIGS can't fly.

@857:

I agree completely with your point, but although I do show up to vote, I myself do not cast a valid ballot.

There is nothing more satisfying than taking money from the government. I consider it a form of personal justice -- since they've taken from you, and continue to take from you for the extent of your entire life.

AIM -- good job!

I must say AIM has talent, to grab a contract without need to have staff and only $2.

@8.57

Right vote for the PAP.

2 Dollars companies also can get workers subsidises to offset your payrolls

This with tax payers monies

I agreed with RB and strongly support the way the govt treats small company like $2 size company as my company also small with 10,000 capital. Hopefully with this episode more doors will now open for me.

@ 8:57am

Singapore can be the hub of $2 companies (with no employees) from all over the world.
Once they set up shop here, they can use Singapore address and pursue multi-million dollar tenders all over the world.

Maybe with internet.
The company directors don't even have to physically come to Singapore to set up the $2 companies.

From a hub for multi-billion dollar companies.
To a hub for $2 companies with no employees.
Singapore continues to make progress under PAP's leedership.

Everythings is done LEEgally here. No one wants to see worms so no one wants to open the can of worms. whoever who open the can will see their career get screw many times over. thats also why people still continue to vote for the same usual party.

Don't knock it: there are many things you can do LEGALLY with $2 companies. ;-)

If there weren't ways to limit liability, no one would start any risky ventures, and the worse off society will be.

RB, time for you to set up a $2 company to compete for some town council or G projects. No need to write so much but earn so little and earn a not so good reputation with the G.

Sing people deserve to be screwed by their leaders many times over thru various schemes such as cpf, coe, erp, gst, hdb, moe, moh. They are daft just like LKY mentioned.

I suggest you set up a $5 company and close down that company after G pays up the initial deposit for the project you have won. When bidding for projects, always quote much lower than others and you will most likely win the project which you never intend to complete.

THis is the best way to get back at the G and the daft voters. Many get rich that way in sing and thats why they stay in landed properties.

Hi rb,

There's purpose and direction in this AIM thingy. Out of necessity, of course.

See all the comments show great understanding in where this is leading to. The head is leading the way. And who says that Singapore is not creative.

By being so innovative, Singapore have over the past 50 years created so many unique concepts. I need only name a few here. CPF, COE, ERP, GRC.......AIM/TCs is just the latest product fresh from the line. It needs further tweaking, of course.

Once, the old man bless this by saying a few words, the process is complete. Singaporeans would have another 3-letter idea in their head.

The process is well underway. Say AIM and everybody knows what it all means already.

So clever. So daft.

[Review productivity scheme payouts]

Tan Saw Bin (Ms)

"AS A certified public accountant, I am concerned
that some consultants and vendors may be benefiting from the Productivity and Innovation Credit (PIC) scheme meant to help business owners.

Some consultants persuade business owners to sign an agreement to pay them 30 per cent to 40 per cent of the PIC cash payout...

Also, some vendors appear to inflate quotes for their goods and services to business owners.

My client was told to pay the $24,000 in full
even before the system was delivered."

[Modelling agencies' price fixing had adverse effect on market]

Teo Wee Guan
Director Strategic Planning
Competition Commission of Singapore

"MONDAY'S report ('Agencies which fixed prices had 'noble goals'')
raises several points about the price-fixing case by modelling agencies
that were members of the Association of Modelling Industry Professionals (Amip)
with Mr Calvin Cheng as president.

Mr Cheng stated that the intent of the modelling agencies was to raise the rates paid to models.

However, the price-fixing agreement increased the prices that customers paid,
which also increased the amount of commission due to the modelling agencies.

The agencies' actions were found by the Competition Appeal Board to have an appreciable adverse effect on the market.

Price fixing is one of the most serious forms of infringement of competition law,
and companies should take proactive steps to ensure that their management and staff understand and comply with the law."
