One person said that Ms Lim should have asked why she was scheduled to speak during a near-empty Parliament sitting. Others called it “disrespectful to the voters and taxpayers”.
Another person proposed that a session should not proceed if a certain number of MPs were not present, with penalties for those who did not attend.
The above is posted in www.theindependent.sg and Sylvia Lim was seen asking the House how Mindef determines the value and pricing of a contract, especially the one concerning F35s and the spending of $2.75b. What is not surprising is the nearly empty House, and you could literally count the number of MPs looking so indifferent and disinterested when Sylvia was talking.
Of course the picture only showed a small section of the Parliament and the rest of the House could be fully occupied. But looking at the picture it tells a very pathetic story about the Singapore Parliament at face value. Who was there and who was not there? Was there a quorum? Think should have. Even if the rest of the seats not shown were fully occupied, the picture still shows a substantial number of MPs, including the Speaker, were not there.
Is this a normal thing, something acceptable? Obviously from the comments mentioned above, they were furious and felt cheated. And half empty and very empty, not sure how empty Parliament has been a thing for a long time, often shown on CNA. By now this is taken as the norm, this is what Singapore Parliament is. I thought when the opposition MPs spoke, the Whip would make sure govt MPs would be present to make a stand or to question and challenge them. No, not necessary anymore?
Or maybe half a house is good enough to deal with the handful of opposition MPs.
What do you think? MPs and Ministers not interested in attending Parliament or Parliament has nothing important to discuss, talking about condoms and dog and cats?

They will be required to debate issues, and to vote to pass Bills. The more blur and fucked-up they are, the better. At least the business of The State gets DONE.

CoVid-19 Spreading (or Convict-19 Escaping) - Why Political Hacks Tell You Not To Panic? - Part 1/2
1. To give early warning of an impending disaster is self-destructive because everybody will go against YOU, who sees what everybody does not see nor feel a single bit about it at all. Politicians know this. So, they tend to delay the warning until it is the right time to speak - most of the time, until it is too late.
2. To tell the public that to panic is dumb is dumb. The moment YOU tell the public not to "PANIC", those with half-smart brain will take the cue from you from there. They will start to PANIC because the very word "PANIC" itself sparks off the Real PANIC in their heart of hearts. The half-smart people will think: YOU must either have started to PANIC yourself or YOU have envisaged that the public is going to PANIC soon. Therefore, YOUR action of telling them NOT TO PANIC have inevitably sounded them off - to start panicking. So, YOU are the Dumb ASS.
3. Precautionary decisions do not scale. Collective safety requires individuals to take excessive risk avoidance measures, even if it conflicts with an individual's own interests and benefits. It may require an individual to worry more about risks that are comparatively insignificant at an early point in time. Assume a risk of a multiplicative virus epidemic, still in its early stages. The risk is very low, lower than other sicknesss such as the common flu. It is therefore "irrational" to panic. But if the individual does not panic and act in an extra-precautionary manner, the virus is bound to spread exponentially and it will become an extremely severe source of risk.
4. Hence, individually, one MUST panic, in order to avoid systemic problems and failures. This happens when the systemic risk is very small but common to all, while an individual's other risks may be big (eg. politicians' self and party interests, careers and money-making opportunities, livelihoods) but not common) to all.
5. And people comparing COVID 19 to seasonal flu are way off. It’s not apples and oranges, it’s apples and golf balls. Both are round but they have little else in common. The seasonal flu has been around since at least 1899, when the first epidemic was reported, what ever that meant back then.
6. The CoVid-19 virus is, far as we know, only about 3 months old/young. So any numbers you can toss around, of so many people killed by one and not the other, are pretty much meaningless and not useful at all. They are completely different entities that just happen to perhaps look similar, if you do not bother to examine them closely. You can bring up the comparison, but you don’t say a thing about CoVid-19 if you do that.
7. Unlike seasonal flu (largely), this one is not standing still. That means it will take 12-18 months to develop a vaccine, while any given year’s vaccine vs that year’s “normal” flu takes only a few weeks. That difference may not say it all, but it comes close.
8. The most striking characteristic of the virus should be its exponential (quadratic) progress once it gets hold. In reaction to Rome shutting down a quarter of the entire country, someone tweeted that “Italy is a time machine that shows us our future. Why do we ignore it?” But it’s not just Italy. It’s a pattern, it’s a dynamic, it’s motion. All things that regular flu is not. Regular flu virus is static, predictable. The CoVid-19 virus is not. It is dynamic!
P/S: Yes, I am back from my meditation retreat in Nepal on Monday. Up in the snow-covered cold mountains, solitary confinement, just like self-quarantine, for solid 49 days (plus 4) is so refreshing! As the virus is spreading fast in Nepal, especially in the crowded tourists areas, up in the mountains, with not a single visitor except my cook-cum-helper and the driver, the chances of getting the virus is 0.0000002!

Why 49 days?
There is a series of advanced meditation called The Bardo Meditations. Bardo means "Gap". There are four bardos, or four gaps, in our life cycle:
1. The Natural Bardo of This Life.
2. The Painful Bardo of Dying.
3. The Luminous Bardo of Dharmata.
4. The Karmic Bardo of Becoming.
Correspondingly, there are four meditation practices devised by the early meditation masters long ago, in the first 500 years after the parinirvana of the Sakyamuni Buddha (Prince Siharta).
I have completed the first three previously. So, in this particular meditation, the last one, the Karmic Bardo of Becoming, it requires 49 days, 7 x 7 weeks, corresponding with the dying period to the time of rebirth. It takes 49 days from the day we die to the time of rebirth for an average person.
During the 49 days, the body-less mind simply wanders about like a yoyo - floating (not knowing where to go to), fleeing (from loud noises), hiding (from monsters) and searching (for a safe place to rest).
At the end of the 49 days, it is time to be reborn - to whatever future forms - a microbe, an insect, fish, bird, animal, ghost, angel, or human.
If one is very evil, he does not have a chance to last 49 days. One's body-less mind will go to one of the 18 hot or cold hell realms - some even immediately upon death.
That's just a very brief explanation.
In LKY's time anyone dare to miss parliament would be asked to resign.
Now MPs maciam king, straggles in at their own sweet time. Want to attend then attend. Don't want to attend don't attend like parliament is a waste of time.
