Frankly, the Government is scared that once Singaporeans started to trace and recognise and reminiscing of their roots as attached to China, we shall lose our Bananas statuses!
They do not want us to be the Chinese Majority to have this type of feelings towards China!
That's why they kept harping even though we have a Majority Chinese population but we are NOT China!
We had our own cultural beliefs and we are Multi Racial Country!
They do NOT want us to associate fully with China as they feared will upset other races!

In Singapore, when asked about their race the Malays proudly says "I am Malay". the Indian proudly says "I am Indian", the Chinese says "I am Singapore". Thats when you feel that Brainwash works, and their brains had gone down to the drain, and can't differentiate between Ethnicity and Nationality!

Singapore is looking very good but did not know that the termites have moved in and gnawing away the foundation. It will collapse from within without knowing why until it is too late. It would be taken over by foreigners by its own undoing, stupidly thinking the foreigners are harmless and will behave like they were when new and small in numbers.
What the foreigners are planning for Singapore is beyond the grasp of stupid leaders.
