If China throws the first punch, it will be demonized by the collective West and the 'principled' people that China is a dangerous bully to be isolated, sanctioned and skinned. China is not going to do that.

China will not attack Taiwan, as wining the war but loosing the trust of the Taiwanese is not what it want. There is no hurry to re-unite with Taiwan as what the US want people to believe that China will attack in certain year. China is slowly cooking the frog-Taiwan, as when it economy is fully relying on China market as well as it do not have any more great "innovation/product" that others really need. The Taiwanese will automatically ask to be part of China. As for Japan, China is waiting for an opportunity to send a few atomic bomb as present.
When TSMC is fully operational in the USA, Taiwan will be useless to the Americans. They are preparing to abandon Taiwan ASAP.
That had been the USA plan, slowly moving TSMC's top end chip expertise to Arizona. A long-term commitment by the USA in Taiwan is unsustainable, while China has all the time in the world to cook the frog.
