2025 will be open door and more freedom in Singapore

Singaporeans have a habit of closing their doors all the time, especially in HDB flats. Long gone were the days when doors were never shut in the kampongs and old corners of Singapore. Maybe in those days most Singaporeans were poor and there was nothing much to steal from old Singaporean homes. In contrast to modern rich Singapore, one of the richest countries in the world, inside every Singaporean home, even in HDB estates, there are many valuable things that are worthy of being stolen. The best thing is to close the doors to protect these valuable items. Don't forget, there are hundreds of thousands of foreigners around, many living next door to Singaporean HDB flats. Never mind if the kampong spirit and neighbourliness are gone. Safety first, protection of their wealth comes first.

Today's narrative is that closing the doors would give Singaporeans a false sense of security. Whether the doors are open or close, the flats and homes can still be broken in and valuables stolen. Given such a situation, why not just leave the doors open? What a brilliant idea and clever argument. I am also convinced! I am qualified to be called a super talent for coming out with such a super idea.

In 2025, Singaporeans should just leave their doors open. No need to close the doors anymore and think it is safe. Let me try of offer more reasons to leave the doors open. Oh, foreigners do not commit crimes. Singaporeans are all very rich and would have no need to steal each other's valuables.  Singapore is a very safe city. Any more clever reasons?

There is a good thing about open door practice. There will be more jobs for security guards to patrol HDB estates and condominiums. And in landed estates, the pay of security guards can be double or triple. This is a good way of creating more employment for the seniors. Now they can walk the estate and chit chatting in the corridors and getting paid for it. Nice. How about passing a law to make open door a way of life, not just a lifestyle choice?

The children, ladies and oldies would feel safe. Never mind that there many single male foreigners living next door. People with unknown background, unknown medical or mental conditions.  Open door means everyone can be friendly friendly to each other, be nice to each other, can enter here and enter there. What a beautiful and loving Singapore!

What do you think?

I live in a kampong along Tampines Road, Defu area, before its redevelopment in the 1970s. At night we never have to lock our doors, never ever. Of course, everyone was poor, there were no outsiders daring to venture into that area at night to steal. The dogs will chase and tear them apart. Dogs were of course easily taken care of later on by innovative thieves, those whose intention was to break in and steal. But then, we are talking about an era of no 'foreign talents' in Singapore. Now everyone is said to be rich, except me, LOL. Our HDB are worth a fortune, that is before it reaches 99 years, and foreigners are envy of Singaporeans.

Kampong living means lots of interaction between households, people and children especially. Those days were more or less more carefree without the do or die in our education system and parents have little care about putting children in a good school. Every school was alike, except a few of the elite schools that the elites send their kids to.

Sure, people do not have much to yearn for like the latest handphones, iPad, computers, cars, credit cards, travelling and gorging in those days. Food became not as a necessity but a splurge. With that came all the sickness associated with overeating, when fast food came fast and furious.

Of course everyone wants the best of everything, but there is always a price to be paid for progress or be left behind just being contented with the status quo. Now, the whole world is fighting climate change, with all the plastics generated, the trees cut down, the pollution generated by Internal Combustion Engines and factories producing more and more goods for consumption. What does the future hold with all these problems arising today? Not for most of us to see obviously.

Our unit of a old point block design with four units to a floor.

Now the new design had 5 to 6 units.

So we brought an access corridor of between two to three feet for some and ours been right next to a lift column for the actual lift dimensions about six feet to four not at the stairscase side.

So we still kept our original internal door and installed a grilled type of iron gate or for some they sealed up with concrete or other materials for their outer door.

For us we usually leave our internal door opened for better ventilation of breeze and air.

Only our outer grilled gate locked.

Let me tell you the pitfalls of having your doors opened.

For one, any survey personnel and sales people shall always come to your unit with delights as you are the suckers that they could contact and make sure that you have to see them.

Then come the worse ones.

The NEA mosquitos squads.

They shall look for suckers that had their doors opened.

Wah, ai seh man one kill in my list alreday. One quota hits.

Get another few these opened doors suckers then fill up my daily quotas can relac at coffeeshop liao.

Ah say man, most kia see ones doors all shut shut..called until no voice and pressed door bells under fingers sores also no use.

No open means no open.

Sinkies are just too afraid of cheng hoo lans so ni choice lan lan have to open for them to inspect.

Pray hard that no stand by flat inspections no confine flat and kena white summons paper for mozzies breeding.

Sigh of reliefs when they left.

Actually ours sure no kena confine barracks, 100 % pass muster, oops apology flat for weekend.

Now the real pains in the arse.

Next two to three days. wah piang eh, hello, hello, shouts from outside.

Another batch of mozzies hunters.

I said man, hello your guys with ladies just came and inspect man! How many times you people want to inspect?

They said got meh?

That's the problem with their NEA WFH aka Work From Home or WIO aka Work In Office tidak apa staff.

Come on man! Dont tell me you people had NOT even a simple System that your hunters came back with their reports that these units had been alreday checked NOT to be in their lists again!

NOT so I exaggerating, they can come to my unit 3 times in a month.

So Mr RB. This is the reason why Sinkies slammed shut all their doors.

Just pretend NOT in, peep thru the peep hole and see unwelcome vistors and summon hunter pretend dead.

Also, when they knocked at your neighbours units, no response they gave up and walked away.

So i wrote to their NEA Director, this way you peoples won't able to contain and eradicate the mozzies menace lah!

Mo Gan Thye!

That is just an excuse. She does not care about the border issues to the South even when told to take care of it by Biden. Now, days before leaving office, she cares about the wildfires in California. Must be joking.

Great news, we sinkies can save a few $$ from the budget needed to entertain her during her visit. However, knowing how our G work, the $$ save will go to someone else pocket but not ordinary sinkies.
