Whither Singapore?
Thailand will apply as soon as
this month to join the BRICS bloc of emerging nations, the government
said on Tuesday, aiming to team up with other Global South countries in
boosting its presence on the global stage.
The BRICS group is centered on Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
At
a cabinet meeting Tuesday, the Thai government finalized plans to
submit the application. If approved, Thailand would become the group's
first member from Southeast Asia.
Joining BRICS will enhance
Thailand's role as a leader among developing countries, a government
spokesperson said at a press conference after the meeting.
Some
view BRICS as a competing framework in an international order led by
developed economies such as the U.S. and Europe. China and Russia have
been leading the bloc's expansion, with the United Arab Emirates, Iran,
Ethiopia and Egypt joining in January.

It is an insult to make the dignified audience to listen to a clown on drugs.
Singapore joining BRICS is out of the question. It will have to solve the threat of 'You are either with US or against US'. Singapore is too deep into its support for USA policies in ASEAN over the years.
Indonesia is still weighing its options over the question of joining BRICS. This is looking at the 'interest' that the USA is showing towards Indonesia, its foray into a Papua New Guinea alliance, the formation of AUKUS and USA bases expanding in the Philippines.
Indonesia's should rightly find its place in BRICS. However, Indonesia joining BRICS will bring with it problems that it must deal with alone. Indonesia is too big a country, with a big economy and population, too big and important for the USA to ignore if it joins BRICS. Indonesia is the 16th largest economy in the world at US$1.475 trillion and growing fast. Growing as opposed to stagnating or falling. Indonesia joining BRICS will make the bloc even bigger, enhancing its standing and diminishing the G7's status.
It is so easy to seduce the Indonesians. Just offer to sell them watered down version of the F35s, they would not know the difference. And they would gladly lie on the bed to be screwed, forgetting that they were Muslims and Americans' enemies are Muslims, forgetting what the Americans are doing to the Arabs and Muslims in the Middle East and all over the world.
To the Americans, Muslims are terrorists. They would only dupe the Indonesians to divide and rule Asean, like what they are doing to the Pinoys.
