HONG KONG: A Hong Kong lawmaker who posed for a group photo with Chinese President Xi Jinping during the leader's visit to the financial hub this week confirmed Sunday (Jul 3) he has since tested positive for COVID-19.
Xi visited Hong Kong under strict security measures to mark the 25th anniversary of the city's handover from Britain in his first trip outside mainland China since the outbreak of the pandemic.
Steven Ho, a 42-year-old member of Hong Kong's largest pro-Beijing party who sits in the city's rubber-stamp legislature, was one of about 100 officials granted close contact with Xi for a photo call on Thursday afternoon.

This mischievous article from AFP clearly implied that the infected lawmaker got his infection by being close to Xi Jinping in a photoshoot. It went on to explain that he was standing two rows behind Xi, and that he avoided all other activities so cannot be infected by other people. So it must be the photo shoot with Xi that infected him, and implying that it was Xi that infected him, that Xi was infected.
But this silly author did not question why the other 100 officials did not get infected. And why those standing closer to Xi, next to Xi, talking to Xi, did not get infected but this Steven Ho that was standing two rows behind Xi was so unlucky to be infected.
The silly author assumed that this Steven Ho did not come to contact with anyone else after the photo shoot. That this Steven Ho probably went into self isolation after the event. He did not talk to anyone else, did not come into contact with anyone, did not have dinner with anyone else, not even with his family members or friends. Therefor Xi is the guilty one.
How ridiculous can a professional reporter be to put up such rubbish? And with a title 'Hong Kong lawmaker tests positive for COVID-19 after photo with Xi Jinping'. Is this responsible reporting? How many unwary and unsuspecting readers would be duped to think Xi went to Hong Kong and spread the virus?
China should ban this author and AFP and demand an apology for such an irresponsible insinuation with very loose inferences.
PS. Another lawmaker from the same party was tested positive on Thursday ie 30 June and was absent from all the events. The photo shoot was likely to be after 30 June. Did this Steven Ho had any contact with this lawmaker earlier?

The concern/alarm is that Steven Ho might pass the virus to Xi, this despite the many precautionary measures that Bejing undertakes to make the trip to Hong Kong safe for Xi.
There is this recent BBC Newsnight feature that still asked was Chinese loans responsible for Sri Lanka economic malaise. This came even though the SL gov clarified releatedlly Chinese loans only formed 10% of its debt portfolio.
And BBC is still continuing to tell the lie there is genocide and forced labour in Xinjiang.
Other western media are just equally bad on China.
The article makes lawmaker Steven Ho look like a member of the "yellow" troublemaker which he is not. This is a pro-peace guy who had been speaking out against other lawmakers who were in cahoots with the destructive rioters.
Have we not learnt from what the Western MSM fabricate all the propaganda regarding Putin these few months? Putin is supposed to cause every ill that the world in suffering from. Putin's energy crisis, Putin's food crisis, Putin's inflation, whatever.
And according to 'The Jimmy Dore Show', Putin has been accused by the Western MSM of weaponising every conceivable thing they can think of. Some are so ridiculous it is unbelievable and yet being trotted out to show the stupidity of the Western journalist who wrote them.
On a separate issue, it looks quite possibly true that Biden really stole the Presidential election from Trump in 2020. I do not buy that actually, but looking at the events in Washington lately, that really changed my perception. In 2016 Hillary Clinton was favourite to win against all odds, with the system rigged by the Democrats and MSM to make sure that Trump will be highly supported by the Republicans, but a sure loser in the eyes of the Democrats and unable to withstand defeat against a high flying winning bet in Hillary. But Trump turned out to be a surprise and shocking winner against all the odds.
Trump has indicated his intention to stand again in 2024, so far at least, and it looks likely against Hillary Clinton, who is looking more and more likely to stand again and make history. But with Biden doing so much harm to the Democrats and the USA, Biden is now toast and also mentally incapable of even lasting his present term. Hence the circus of clowns running it's course in the courts over the Capitol Hill riots, with fake testimony from equally fake people, they are going all out to ensure Trump stands no chance of ever standing again, clearing the way for most likely another Hillary attempt. Every channel is now under the control of the Democrats to have their way.
They are trying very hard to pin the blame on China for the Sri Lanka problems. Thanks to social media, the truth cannot be hidden like in the past, and they cannot continue to fabricate propaganda and manipulate information all their way. They are losing the battle in cyberspace and needed to use underhand tactics to close down channels for truth.
After obvious failures to stigmatise the debt trap of the BRI, they actually resorted to sabotage the BRI projects using terrorism in Central Asia. Xinjiang was in the plan to destabilise the region. It failed.
Now, the G7 is saying they are investing US$600 billion to counter the BRI, a posture more symbolic than reality, that is destined for failure. Where is the multi trillion US$ Build Back Better plan now? That never even got off the ground after so much grandstanding. The money printed is now fueling all the inflation in the USA.
China's BRI is built on the premise that it will connect the world together for more trades.
The American BRI to connect where to where, for what? They can't be planning to build bridges across the Atlantic Ocean to connect the USA to Europe right? They would definitely not be interested in rail links to China or Africa or to Asia. Also China already built the links across Asia, Europe and Africa.
Castle building in the air only jell the fools of the White dominated regimes.
Africans, South Asians, South Americans, Central Asians and Middle Eastern countries have all seen through the castle building over the centuries and knows what to expect. Much ado about nothing.

Singapore reports an increased number of new Covid-19 cases today. There was a total of 7,979 new infections yesterday.
Two Covid-19 deaths are reported today, bringing the death toll to 1,418.
The number of people hospitalised is 582, an increase of 23 from yesterday.
The number of people experiencing severe symptoms has also increased again to 83, with 74 of them on oxygen support.
The Covid-19 Situation is getting very serious. It is quite clear that the authorities have given up in one way or another.
