Huawei CFO case – China compels to act

The vile unilateral arrest of Huawei’s CFO by the Canadian govt under instruction from the Americans compelled the Chinese govt to act against the Canadians and the Americans. This is an arrest of a Chinese national on transit and who has not committed any crime in Canada or the USA. The alleged crime is a violation of an American sanction on Iran that was unilaterally imposed by the US and nationals of other countries need to comply unless they are operating in the USA.

If the Americans can imposed their domestic laws on foreign nationals in other parts of the world, it would mean the American laws are international laws or the USA is the Empire of the world and every country would come under American laws.

China or any country would not subject their nationals to American laws and jurisdiction. This is a violation of the rights of other nationals and China must act or its govt would loose the support and respect of its citizens and countries of the world. After several stern warnings, the Canadians still refused to release Meng Wanzhou from custody. The latest, she has been allowed bail. This is not enough. The bail conditions were atrociously prohibitive, $10m bail, electronic tag, and the cruel hand and leg cuffing of a dignified and highly educated female top executive were incomprehensible. Only a rogue regime could ever do such wicked things.

It has been reported that China has arrested an ex Canadian diplomat Michael Kovrig in China. Kovrig is now working with an International Crisis Group in Hong Kong. If the Canadians and the Americans deemed fit to address Chinese nationals for not breaking any of their laws, China can do likewise in return for the rogue behavior of these regimes. The Americans got the cheek to tell China to respect human rights and to release the Canadians. And they have issued warnings to Americans not to visit China for fear of arrest. This must be expected. China cannot sit idly by and allow Chinese nationals to be arrested anywhere in the world by rogue regimes when they did not commit any crimes against those countries. Kovrig must be treated under the same conditions as Meng, handcuffed, leg cuffed and paraded in court. The bail conditions should be no less than Meng.

More arrests of Americans and Canadians are on the card if Meng Wanzhou is not released. Both can play the same dirty game. If the Americans and Canadians want to play international kidnappers, China too can do the same. If China does not act to arrest the Canadians or Americans, then the Americans and Canadians would be embolden to arrest Chinese businessmen anywhere, anytime they so chose. This fear would stop Chinese businessmen from travelling outside China and must be removed at once. With the arrest of the Canadian, China is telling the Canadians and Americans that they too are subject to be arrested by China at will anywhere, anytime. The boyish PM Trudeau cannot pretend and act so innocently over this kidnapping of Meng, that it was a legal matter and has nothing to do with him or politics. Now his little balls are being caught between China and the USA and other Canadians are going to pay for his childish prank on China. He is being taught a lesson not to meddle with the men in the game of politics. And Canada is now know throughout the world as a dangerous country of kidnappers. They would arrest anyone under instruction from the US, even innocent people who did not commit any crime in Canada. Beware when travelling to this terrorist country.

While the American’s main intent was to kill Huawei, China has banned the sale of all Apple iPhones in the whole of China.

PS. There is a rumour that Kovrig has secret information on North Korea and North Korea is asking China to repatriate him to serve jail time in North Korea : ) How’s that for tit for tat? Wait for more Canadians to be arrested in greater China.

China has warned Canada of serious consequences. A British Columbia trade mission was stopped from entering China. A Canadian, Michael Kovrig, has been detained. A second Canadian is reported to be detained. Shares of Canada Goose, the maker of luxury outergear, have tumbled 17 percent and there are calls in China to boycott the brand. Chinese tourists are avoiding Canada. Uncle Sam has 60 days to ask for formal extradition. Failing which she would be free of all charges. Trump has been accused of judicial interference for saying that Sabrina Meng would be released if China and Uncle Sam can conclude a trade deal. It is obvious that the POTUS and President Xi had been talking over the hot line. Canada will be made to look foolish trying to suck up to Uncle Sam.

Don't worry about Canada ... Trump got lots of spare USD to compensate them. Loss of a few individuals is inconsequential. Hundreds of thousands of people die everyday. No big deal.

@ nah, this is the wrong play:

Let’s suppose you saw an Indian (you thought he was Indian because of a dark complexion) breaking into your house. He spotted you, and immediately made a hasty exit. You chased, but he escaped.

So the next Indian you see, you immediately perform a citizen’s arrest, and call the cops to put him into custody. After a short investigation down at the cop shop, the guy is released because he’s innocent and you clearly made a mistake. When asked by the investigator why you thought this was the culprit, you respond ”He’s Indian. The burglar was Indian. So therefore there’s a good chance that this fella was the burglar. Since I know the burglar was Indian, we should be careful of all Indians as they probably are criminals”. What the cops do to you next is hopefully apply some “police brutality” to your well-deserved person. 🀣

China made the wrong play. Totally wrong. They’ve essentially showed the world that they base their judgments on culture, race or cuntry. Even if Trump is a racist asshole, that doesn’t mean that China has to denigrate its reputation likewise.

A better way would have been diplomatic sanctions. Give ultimatum to close US or expel the US & Canadian Trade Representatives, forthwith. No warning...no ultimatum. Just expel ‘em. THEN, lay down the conditions for re-establishment of the offices.

The method is a direct retaliatory assault on the specific governments in the respective cuntries. It is focused, it is swift and direct with no allusions to culture or race (even though the other sides might be guilty of that).

As I always say, never trust the Whites, whether from Canada or the EU. The Whites will always gang up with the Whites against other races.

What moral right has the US to talk of human rights? Would they give up their land to the Red Indians, which they seized centuries ago? What about Diego Garcia, which they seized for military use, and forced the inhabitants to leave for another place and losing their livelihood? Many other places were also seized from natives to build military bases. And they continue to champion human rights as if that is their nature.

I think China should let North Korea have the Canadian ex-diplomat for spying on North Korea. But on second thought, he could be a bargaining chip to put pressure on Canada and US. Trudeau has entangled his balls in the wrong place.

The silly boy PM Trudeau is made to look so stupid to the Canadians by agreeing to the arrest without thinking. Thank you Americans for teaching this silly boy a lesson in politics. He is soooo innocent, and so dumb.

Maybe he will grow up after being made a sucker by the Americans.

Canada knows that the US violates the spirit of international law by using domestic regulations to extend its jurisdiction. A video on the US State Department's press briefing on Tuesday featured AP journalist Matthew Lee asking questions on the alleged detention to deputy spokesperson Robert Palladino. Matthew Lee received thumbs up for his aggressive questions showing that even a US journalist could not stand its government's double standards. Palladino urged China to end all forms of arbitrary detentions over Kovrig's detention. Lee asked whether he supported the way the Canadians handled the detention of Meng, as he seemed to suggest that China may have acted incorrectly in detaining the former Canadian diplomat.
Failing to answer it directly, Palladino first said he did not understand the question and then dodged it by accusing Meng.

With China's military might and reach today, no country should ever think of bullying Chinese in any corner of the world. China would act to protect any Chinese that was wrongfully bullied or attacked.

The Americans dared not do it and asked stupid Canada to do it. Stupidly Canada under a boy PM did it without knowing the consequences. Now Canada is going to pay a heavy price for its stupidity.

Only 2 countries China will think 10X before acting --- US and Russia. All other countries will become collateral damage, whether by accident or by choice.

By arresting Sabrina Meng on behalf of Uncle Sam, Canada risks having a bad name for doing business. Doing business in Canada can be dangerous. Canada is fighting alone with the two largest economies in the world. It is now stuck in the middle. Canada is damn if it helps Uncle Sam and damn if it doesn’t. Uncle Sam has been sabotaging its name for being the world's worst culprit in breaching agreement, being a world class bully and for losing trust and cooperation from China and other nations as well. At the end of the day, it can be surmised that Uncle Sam persecuted China's Huawei because it is too successful.

@ RB, you must be dreaming lah

>> Now Canada is going to pay a heavy price for its stupidity. <<

I doubt it. In fact, I will believe it when I see it. Their response to the wrongful arrest of Sabrina Meng has been weak....for whatever reason, I don't know.

Canada might kena a bit of "heat", but it probably won't even hurt. Since marijuana is legal there, people will just be getting high and enjoying themselves, even the rough French Canadians will be calming down.

China needs to reevaluate how they respond lah. Or maybe they are just focusing on the BRI projects. They need to do something with a bit more "heft".

But can't really blame them too much. This was a complete surprise. Imagine you sit down to make peace with someone you had a problem with. You share a meal, you work out a deal to solve your problems. Then the fucker goes behind your back and kidnaps one of your staff. Complete surprise. No forewarning. This is what happened---a contingency they didn't see coming. They let their guard down and wrongly estimated that their adversary wouldn't resort to "dirty tricks". Therefore, they had no play in their toolkit. Even their own intel missed it.

To me this says that they will continue to have problems with America and its "allies". And that the "alliance" is not beyond playing dirty, in full view of the whole world.

Matilah,

Agree, China started on a wrong footing, acting slow and meek in the beginning. By now they understood how serious were the implications if they did not act tough on the Canadians. Now they have woken up and are going to mount more pressure on the Canadians until Meng is sent home to China.

They could make Canada into a case for other little USAs not to repeat the same thing on China. If not little USAs might be tempted to do likewise. It is humiliating to China and they realised their mistake for not acting earlier.

Canada is likely to be punched harder going forward.

I'll only believe it when I see it. They better do a good one or risk really losing face.

China's response to Canada's provocation has been measured and well-thought out. It reserved the right to hit back but without over-reacting. China does not wish to project itself as overly aggressive and assertive. At this point of time, Sabrina is out on bail and Uncle Sam has not made any move to extradite her. Chinese wisdom: When Might is even, Diplomacy is strength. When Might is uneven, Strength is diplomacy.

Chua Chin Leng aka redbean said...

China selectively arrested another Canadian, Michael Spavor, famously known as Kim Jong Un's good friend. His real identity is likely to be a Canadian secret agent.

Both are valued hostages for exchange. Both are likely Canadian govt agents.

Once Canada extradites Meng to the US, these two agents are likely to be locked up forever.

Trump said he did not have anything to do with the arrest of Meng. Trudeau said he also did not know of the arrest and have nothing to do with it. It is all an act of God. Insurance also cannot claim!

Perhaps Xi also did not have anything to do with the detention of the Canadian ex diplomat on his side. Kim obviously also has nothing to do with the arrest of the Canadian ex diplomat. It is all nobody's fault. It is an act of God. Insurance also cannot claim!

Hell, what is the world becoming!

Unless Sabrina Meng is unconditionally released, followed by apologies from Canada and Uncle Sam, China is unlikely to let matters rest. Trump is prepared to throw Canada under the bus as he is seeking to strike a deal with China and outmanoevre Canada. There is no honour among crooks. China will have the last laugh when crooked Trump plays out crooked Trudeau.

Trump's favourite game is throwing people under the bus. Nick Ayer knows this and refrained from taking over the Chief of Staff job.

But it can't be long that Trump will throw himself under the bus. Just wait.

Trump thinks he is smart, powerful and on the upper-hand.

Making use of the legal process of own country in order to behave illegally and lawlessly in the world stage is tantamout to Criminal Behaviors.

That was exactly what Hitler and Japanese Emperor Hiroshito did during the Second World War.

The consequences of such criminal behaviours are unimaginable.

Trump's days are numbered for he has crossed the RED LINE!
