HongKong - 430,000 protest for one man one vote

The Hongkies were fighting for their rights for one man one vote on the streets. They took this fight very seriously to prevent the gradual erosion of democracy over time by inaction. And this fight is going to be a tough one as the right of one man one vote is a western version of democracy that does not match up well with parent China’s communist system of one man one vote.

Can we learn any lesson from the Hongkies in fighting for our rights? About 5,000 Sinkies turned up at HongLim to stage a protest against the 6.9m population that is seen as suffocating and pressurizing on the limitations of land in the island. The 5,000 was not even a quarter of the 21,000 turnouts for a Gay Party in the same venue.

Mind you, Hong Lim is a safe place designated for such peaceful protest. No one will turn out if it is a street protest like in HongKong. I am quite sure about that. This is best seen by every organizer of events in Hong Lim assuring the people to come as the protest was legal, ie, they would not be arrested. A street protest is illegal, you know what that means.

I think another reason why the number of Sinkies turning up at Hong Lim was so small must be the fact that there are really very few Sinkies left in the island. That must also be the reason why in govt statistics, Sinkies are always lumped together with PRs as locals. I think to really separate the two numbers will scare the wits out of the remaining Sinkies here. How many Sinkies are really left in the island and how many by 2030?

There will be no protest of the size like in HongKong to ever happen here unless it is organized by the Govt of the day, with all the approvals and support, including free meals and free transportation. Maybe there is really no reason important enough for the Sinkies to want to protest as everyone is so happy. Life is only difficult and troublesome when they cannot buy their Hello Kitty toys.

Maybe missing out on Kitty toys could be more nightmarish and a good reason for a big turnout in a street protest. Nothing else could command that kind of emotions and affection.

PS. 17 million Egyptians marched in the streets to demand the resignation of President Morsi. And the march was quite peaceful without rioting. And so was the HongKong protest march, with children and old folks tagging alone.

In HK there is no law against protest. Police will regulate traffic to allow protest to go on smoothly. In Sinkieland it is safer to be gay than to protest.

No way lah. For one, the culture is very different. Honkies tend to be more spirited, much more individual and they are NOT SCARED...in fact, any red blooded HK Cantonese will stand up and stand their ground, and if necessary fight you. Even Cantonese women are feisty -- guys, be warned

Singaporeans are passive. They'll complain like hell, sign petition, turn up for protest -- but apply for permit first -- and then buy "ta pow" on the way home, wondering how much their home has increased in value in the last few hours.

No, there is nothing to be learnt from the brave Egyptians or HongKongers. Who do they think they are anyway? Singapore and her people are NUMBER 1, so other cuntrees take heed, of our local saying: don't teach your father how to fuck.

Ok, several ads clicked. I have some yu cha kway to eat with my kopi C.

Fuck Dome, Starbucks, Coffee Bean and Spinelli's, McCafe.

Kopi should be taken with kaya toast and eggs or yu cha kway...not that pretentious pompous bullshit like "croissants" and "muffins".

Got local?

Actually I more used to our local kopi kau. The blend of maize and butter gives it a fragrance that Starbucks or CoffeeBean cannot compete with. Only need to be careful not to overwhelm with too much maize and no coffee.

Come on Folks!

Sinkies have the grit and tenacity to face adversity and even bear with oppression. They are oso honest not to blame policy makers they have chosen to give their votes.
Hongkies are cry babies, protest every now and then and blame the politicians for everything they are not happy. They even blamed their political leaders for bad weather, can You imagine that?
Sinkies are blessed with incorruptible rulers of the best calibre, so most are happy and therefore too please to go for protest. They rather go shopping, eating and gambling. Some go mating.

There are rich businessmen sponsoring those big protests one lah. Do you people really think the protesters are so free and nothing better to do? Thats the reason papayas always keep those businessmen very happy so they can employ many cheap labour and will not put money to psycho daft people into protest.

Some of the protesters in China in Hong Kong were waving the colonial flag with a union jack in it like Australia, NZ ones.

Many people in Hong Kong, which is a teeny-weeny part of China are disturbed, having ruled by the English for 150 years, so these people who waved the flag wanted HK to revert to English rule is it?

So loyal to the Queen is it ??

Hong Kong became a colony of the British Empire after the First Opium War (1839–42). Originally confined to Hong Kong Island, the colony's boundaries were extended in stages to the Kowloon Peninsula in 1860 and then the New Territories in 1898. It was occupied by Japan during the Pacific War, after which the British resumed control until 1997, when China resumed sovereignty.--wiki

History lessons never forget them?

the americans decided the return lands controlled by the Japs to the Englishmen after the war like SG??

The Americans are such good people to the Brits. And they also returned Vietnam to the French.

Demonstration is a rights but it does not mean it is a majority view.

As for talk of Egypt millions of protester come out, that figure it is exaggerated.

Common sense can tell the number is unlikely, though
definitely more than 17 millions against the current government. Why after all Morsi did will a slight margin in the poll.

It will be endless chaos
until a president candidate acceptable to all sides can appear.
