Three Indian-origin Singaporeans among 9 new nominated members of Singapore Parliament - THE WEEK, July 18

https://www.theweek.in/news/world/2023/07/18/three-indian-origin-singaporeans-among-9-new-nominated-members-of-singapore-parliament.html

Neil Parekh Nimil Rajnikant, hailing from Gujarat, has been nominated as MP in the Singapore Parliament.

Nimil, 60, chairman of the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and a council member of the Singapore Business Federation, is among the three Indian-origin Singaporeans nominated as MPs.

The other two are Chandradas Usha Ranee, co-founder of Plural Art Magazine and course coordinator at the Nanyang Business School, and lawyer Raj Joshua Thomas.

According to media reports, a total of nine MPs were selected by a special select committee of the Parliament. The Committee is headed by then Speaker Tan Chuan-Jin. They would serve a tenure of two-and-half years and they will be sworn in next month.

A total of 30 names were put for consideration out of which nine were selected, including those of Indian origin.

Sunil Parekh, Neil’s elder brother and industry veteran, told THE WEEK, “NMP is a very prestigious position and it is one of the highest in the world, and for a foreigner to be given this recognition, really means a lot.”

Singapore - Dark clouds break into thunderstorm

SINGAPORE: Speaker Tan Chuan-Jin and Member of Parliament Cheng Li Hui have resigned from parliament and the People's Action Party (PAP) after having an inappropriate relationship with each other.

Their resignations were announced by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on Monday (Jul 17), although it did not specify the reasons behind the resignations. CNA

Just when we thought the dark clouds are clearing, they broke into a once in 50 years thunderstorm. Two PAP ministers have vacated their MP seats. Tharman standing for election for the next president, Iswaran arrested by CPIB and now under investigation. Today the sky opened up with cats and dogs falling down, with news of Tan Chuan Jin, the Speaker of Parliament and a female MP, both resigning from their offices and from the PAP.

In a matter of weeks, 4 MP seats are vacant. Luckily the other two ministers did not have to resign or there will be 6 MP seats up for grabs.

The $30.8b and $7.4b losses were just a drop in the ocean and nothing to worry about, just one of those things. What happened today could not be one of those things. SMS and What'sApp messages are spreading like wild fire of an opposition MP also in the hot seat with inappropriate news. Politics is exciting, but didn't know that it is so sexy.

The once quiet and nothing to report political scene of Singapore, has been so dull and uninteresting, has turned very vigorous and exhilarating for a change. Hsien Loong had to make an appearance in a press briefing to explain his acceptance of the resignations of Tan Chuan Jin and Cheng Li Hui.

In America, when the gender issues and the prevalence of LGBTQ are everywhere, the Americans chose to adopt the attitude of, 'if can't beat them, join them'. Even in the American military, GIs or Government Issues, would now include lipsticks, mascara, panty hoses instead of camouflage paints and combat gears...for the not females. The conventional classifications of male and female have made way to include other variations of preferred gender. Other than M or F, there are now L, G, B, T and Q to choose from.

No way. Singapore would stick to the conservative and traditional virtues of appropriateness, propriety, correctness, no misconduct, no unacceptable relationships. Inappropriate or unacceptable relationships are a no, no. This is the high standard of moral correctness of the PAP, no corruption or abuses of power etc etc. Those found to have violated such moral codes and conduct would have to resign from public office, from the PAP. The squeaky clean image of the govt and of PAP must not be tarnished or compromised. Monkhood or priesthood is still the order of the day.

Cross the fingers, no more dark clouds, no more thunderstorms, no more nasty surprises. The Presidential Election is around the corner, and the GE is not too far off.

Nitpicking India Sabotaging SCO and BRICS From the Inside

India is a big stumbling block, a major disrupter, seeking to weaken groups like SCO and BRICS from the inside. The South Asian country exhibits a combative and competitive attitude towards China throughout its year-long rotating SCO presidency period.

During India’s hosting of the SCO Defence Ministers’ Meeting and Foreign Ministers’ meeting in earlier months: 1) Indian ministers refused to shake hands with their Chinese counterparts, 2) India purposely put China at non-central position in the group photographs -- something that rarely happened in earlier SCO meetings, 3) India challenged the Chinese and Russian privileges in the SCO in terms of language and demanded the inclusion of English as one of its official languages so as to increase its influence within the grouping.

Even at the final summit, India created a big fuss, openly contradicting China and preventing the summit from making important achievements. It refused to sign the ‘SCO Economic Development Strategy 2030’, neither did it endorse the Belt and Road Initiative, thereby preventing a clear SCO consensus on these issues.

Not just in SCO, India is confronting China in the BRICS grouping as well, where it has been delaying the process of expansion, by pressing for clear criteria for the expansion process, as against the Chinese stance of expanding the grouping based on recommendations of existing members.

Ukraine War - who would use cluster bombs first? False flag incident to blame Russia?

If USA supply cluster bombs to Ukraine, Putin is threatening to use them as well. Now who is going to blink first and use it first will be blamed for a catastrophe waiting to happen in Ukraine. And it is the Ukrainian people who are going to suffer for it.

The argument that the running out of Western ammunition for Ukraine is the reason why they have to resort to cluster bombs is as good as saying that after the cluster bombs are exhausted, using nuclear weapons is next on the cards. After all, what else is left for them to try to 'change the game'? Troops on the ground?

What about trying for peace and putting pressure on Zelenskyy to end his wet dream of retaking Crimea? It will never happen. Zelenskyy better concentrate on how to defend Kyiv from the North rather than talking tough about not negotiating until Russia withdraws completely from Ukraine.

Russia has a new card to play in the war. Gurkhas are now being inducted into the Russian army and the whole Russian military is inundated by professional soldiers of the top calibre - Wagner, Chechens and now Gurkhas. Who is foolish enough to want to tangle with them? Foreign fighters are now said to be fleeing Ukraine under extreme pressure from the Russians. Even Ukrainian soldiers are not spared and are deserting. But the MSM is not saying a word.

India - Investment paradise for the stupid and the blind, and those gambling with OPM

Stupid people will never admit their stupidity. That is why they say 'stupidity has no cure'. How to cure when they do not admit that they are stupid in the first place? It is just like a person who is very fragile and weak with a mental incapacity, yet claims he is healthy, robost and in good mental shape to lead the country. It is a disaster waiting to happen for the country. You know what I mean?

India is trying to do Foreign Companies in in India. Not just to Chinese companies, but to Taiwanese companies like Wistron and Foxconn. Wistron had to sell off their iPhone assembling business in India to Tata. Foxconn realised it cannot remain in the joint venture with Vedanta, knowing it will be swallowed up once the venture is successful. Both followed Apple to invest in India, but got burnt badly. Apple is stuck between a rock and a hard place and retreating from India is a great loss of face and a dent on its ego.

This is the Indian way of doing business, using foreign investments to grow ventures to be taken over by their own domestic entities if successful. Are these not lessons enough for them to get out of their stupidity? The Adani Group, that grew to such a size, used the same modus operandi, helped by the Modi Government to acquire successfully ports and every big venture in India.

Why are investors still stupidly dumping money into India, after watching all this is a mystery? All the time it is just gloating and salivating about the Indian market, as if consumer size will grow overnight with population growth alone. There is more to it than population growth to have a huge consumer market like China. The first criteria is eradication of poverty followed by job creation, which can only come with manufacturing. Killing the goose that is going to lay the golden eggs for India via manufacturing is not the way forward.

We just have to take the EU countries that are just following blindly the dictates of the USA to harm themselves as a perfect example. Who in his right mind would do that? We can call that stupidity in every sense of the word, destroying their own economy with de-industrialisation, but they think they are doing the right thing to cut their own noses to spite their faces. There is a hidden time bomb waiting to explode in the EU going forward, but they are just keeping a lid on it by banning protest as in France, and also in USA, Canada and the UK. It just needed a spark to ignite and no amount of banning can stop it.
