SINGAPORE: Speaker Tan Chuan-Jin and Member of Parliament Cheng Li
Hui have resigned from parliament and the People's Action Party (PAP)
after having an inappropriate relationship with each other.
Their resignations were announced by the Prime Minister's Office
(PMO) on Monday (Jul 17), although it did not specify the reasons behind
the resignations. CNA
Just when we thought the dark clouds are clearing, they broke into a once in 50 years thunderstorm. Two PAP ministers have vacated their MP seats. Tharman standing for election for the next president, Iswaran arrested by CPIB and now under investigation. Today the sky opened up with cats and dogs falling down, with news of Tan Chuan Jin, the Speaker of Parliament and a female MP, both resigning from their offices and from the PAP.
In a matter of weeks, 4 MP seats are vacant. Luckily the other two ministers did not have to resign or there will be 6 MP seats up for grabs.
The $30.8b and $7.4b losses were just a drop in the ocean and nothing to worry about, just one of those things. What happened today could not be one of those things. SMS and What'sApp messages are spreading like wild fire of an opposition MP also in the hot seat with inappropriate news. Politics is exciting, but didn't know that it is so sexy.
The once quiet and nothing to report political scene of Singapore, has been so dull and uninteresting, has turned very vigorous and exhilarating for a change. Hsien Loong had to make an appearance in a press briefing to explain his acceptance of the resignations of Tan Chuan Jin and Cheng Li Hui.
In America, when the gender issues and the prevalence of LGBTQ are everywhere, the Americans chose to adopt the attitude of, 'if can't beat them, join them'. Even in the American military, GIs or Government Issues, would now include lipsticks, mascara, panty hoses instead of camouflage paints and combat gears...for the not females. The conventional classifications of male and female have made way to include other variations of preferred gender. Other than M or F, there are now L, G, B, T and Q to choose from.
No way. Singapore would stick to the conservative and traditional virtues of appropriateness, propriety, correctness, no misconduct, no unacceptable relationships. Inappropriate or unacceptable relationships are a no, no. This is the high standard of moral correctness of the PAP, no corruption or abuses of power etc etc. Those found to have violated such moral codes and conduct would have to resign from public office, from the PAP. The squeaky clean image of the govt and of PAP must not be tarnished or compromised. Monkhood or priesthood is still the order of the day.
Cross the fingers, no more dark clouds, no more thunderstorms, no more nasty surprises. The Presidential Election is around the corner, and the GE is not too far off.
