IPSOS- Most think can but cannot spot fake news

How credible are surveys conducted by marketing research agencies? If I were to conduct a survey on whether Singaporeans or any nationals if they could spot fake news by showing them 10 headlines, just headlines, and ask them whether they are real or fake, how many would be able to get the answers correct?
The answer is obvious. Just by reading a headline, it is highly impossible, highly improbable to know whether the content is real or fake. Even the committee members of the Select Committee on fake news would also fail miserably if they were to be put to such a test.

IPSOS is reported in thenewpaper as a global independent market research agency and they conducted a survey with the ‘aims to understand the susceptibility of Singaporeans towards fake news.’ And this is their conclusion, ‘Four in five Singaporeans say they can confidently spot fake news. But when put to the test, more than 90 per cent mistakenly identified at least one out of five fake headlines as real.’

This was how the test was conducted. ‘But when participants were given 10 news headlines from digital channels and asked to indicate which ones were fake, only 43 per cent correctly identified two or fewer fake headlines. Of the 10, half were fakes.’

Even if I were to tell just by reading headlines, I can confidently tell you that I would not have better clue or get better results than those being surveyed. And I can also confidently tell you the result would be the same if all the committee members of the Select Committee on fake news were put to the same test.

What do you think is the problem with this test? How credible and reliable is a test of this nature to understand the susceptibility of people towards fake news?

This is another case of stupidity has no cure. Who do you think are the stupid one?
Incidentally, who is smarter or cleverer to tell the public what is fake news or what is the truth and what to believe and what not to believe? The clever people in the Select Committee or some small groups of people thinking that they are smarter and cleverer than you? Are you nuts or idiots that need some unknown jokers to tell you what is true and what is fake? What is your IQ and what are their IQs?

The ancient adage of "you don't judge a book by its cover" applies also to that survey on fake news identification. By judging just a statement or headline one can't really tell whether the news is fake or true unless the reader already knew beforehand the actual situation. Even if u ask the Sage or Saint, most probably they also cannot tell unless some evidences r presented.

Real can eventually turn out to be fake. But because they are endorsed by experts and analyst, people believe them to be true. Until....

Just take examples like cooking oil. Canola oil was touted by experts as the healthiest cooking oil in the universe, until we found out how they added all kinds of chemicals to make them look golden.

Flouride was touted by experts as preventing tooth decay, but after decades of lying, the truth is otherwise.

Margarine made from cooking oil was touted by experts as healthier and cholesteral free than natural butter, but it turns out that the chemicals added to turn it solid is doing a much more dirty job than natural butter inside the human body.

And so on and so forth.

But coming back to fake news, what is more fake than GST is to help the poor, who paid no taxes before it came into effect. Or upgrading of HDB flats will enhance its value until the face of those who homes are now 50 years old or older.

Never trust PAP, and never trust experts or analyst, who are paid to lie with a straight face because they also follow the money.

Very Simple Mr RB. Anything that churned out from the PAP Propaganda Machines are FAKE NEWS.

What's Select Committee where they selected their own members in the Committee.

Any statisticial Reports or News of how many Singaporeans fully employed and how low unemployment figure of Singaporeans.

All the wayang of daily propaganda of how's kind hearted Singaporeans herpes their fellowmen.

These be staightaway recognised by the 29.01% as FAKE NEWS and True News by the daft 69.9%.

Surveys Are Fake News said...

Lies, More Lies And Statistics.

It has been proven by the US Presidential Election in 2016 that surveys are highly unreliable. Out of more than one hundred surveys, 95% of them predicted that Hilliary Clinton would win with a landslide of between 80% to 90% of the votes. And that Donald Trump would lose miserably. Many prominent world leaders were conned by those surveys into believing that Hilliary Clinton would be the 45th US President. Singapore included.

In reality, there are 5 valid reasons why surveys should never be taken at face value:

1. Statistical data can be interpreted in various ways, depending on the motivation of the survey conductor and the user of the collected statistical data.

2. There is not a single standard way to conduct a survey. One can always device the survey questions in such a way that a certain desired "result" is achieved.

3. The survey organisers can confine their surveys to certain selected group of people for readon best known to themselves.

4. They might have chosen only a tiny sample that does not represent the majority's view.

5. The way they collate the collected data might be deliberately designed for certain purposes.

Bottom line is:

DON'T BE CONNED BY SURVEYS AND THEIR STATISTICS!

Anything comes out of PAP-controlled agencies and PAP Government to influence and convince the voters are Deliberately Generated Fake News. Because they will never tell the whole truth and their modus operandi is to twist the logic around. For example:

1. "GST is to help the poor",

2. "The price of your HDB flats will keep increasing."

3. "Foreigners help to create jobs for you".

4. "Paying Ministers and Top Civil Servants by the $Million so that they won't become corrupt."

5. "Grassroots organizations under the control of the People's Association (under the control of the PAP) are neutral and apolitical."

6. An Indian-Muslim by birth can be interpreted as a Malay-Muslim for the purpose of making her the Presidential Candidate in an Election reserved for the Malays Only.

7. Anyone drawing less than $500,000 annually is mediocre.

7. It takes 56 man-years to list out all the national assets.

8. Many more .....

Eh, where the fuck is Sing Stat ah? motherfucker, this shit is in their wheelhouse...our taxes pay Sing Stat salaries. It is times like this they're supposed to step up and apply cold-factual objectivity. Surely they won't "pass" the data (so-called) gathered from a shitty test like this.

Hey SingStat? Are you fuckers even breathing? Please don't waste oxygen. Get moving!

In Singapore there is no PAP propaganda. There is only TRUTH. You can trust them. They all earn more than $500k. 🍻

Ya, ya, people who earn more than $500k only tell the truth. Trust them.

@ Effective communication---keep it simple

The Emeritus Goh Chok Tong (Emeritus ➽ Latin for "veteran soldier") could have used simpler language to convey his "monetary evaluation" for those "poor buggers" who barely scrape by in life on a paltry $500,000 (that's half a million folks) per year. He should have just stated:

"Ai pi, ai chi, ai tua lip ni" Teochew, meaning: "you want it young, pretty and with nice tits...and you also want it CHEAP!" (you want the impossible)

Nothing beats direct vulgarity to get a point across to a bunch of whinging, stingy masses.

Effective communication. C'mon you faith-less and cynical Sheeple, pay those poor starving ministers properly. So poor ting one. 😰

Heartless cunts. Find some compassion, will yah? 🤡

President Xi Jinping Says China Must Be Prepared For WAR !!

Ten in ten world leaders cannot be trusted. Why?

Because they all earned less than $500K. That leaves only Red Dot ministers who can be trusted. They all earned more than that.

Trump's world!

Yes, there will be WAR!
Singapore is also preparing for WAR.
That's why the Ministers are making sure that they have sufficient money to buy houses overseas for their children and relatives and in-laws
When WAR starts, only the NS personnel will be left to fight and die. All the Paper Generals will run away because by then they will be CEOs and Ministers.

@ Singapore End of Days:

1. The End is Nigh

2. Don't bother preparing for war...it's FUTILE

3. Fight or be conquered, and DESTROYED...it's still futile!
