This is the natural progression of how humans have evolved from first discovering eating meat cooked by a forest fire and comparing with raw meat. Then fire became the path for use in cooking. It morphed into coal for feeding furnaces to generate steam to move trains. Then comes the internal combustion engine and airplanes that needed fossil fuel and that started the massive oil exploration movement. Renewables will be the next evolution for energy generation.
The early bird catches the worm, while those still intent on getting stuck on fossil fuel will be left standing while others move forward. The Iran War and the energy crisis is going to change mindsets regarding renewable energy. Make no mistake by pretending that renewable energy is all hype and no substance. Those that have invested huge fortunes in fossil fuel will not bend so easily, so let them be.

Don't count out safe nuclear energy which is infinitely more abundant than renewables.
Right. Now China is experimenting with small nuclear generators, the Linglong 1, that can be built in a factory and transported elsewhere and could power small cities by itself. If this takes off and China can make them for the global market, the effect will be game changing for fossil fuel. But rest assured, the USA will try to demonize such devices as it goes against its agenda to keep the world enslaved by fossil fuel, which they have in abundance.
If only mankind knows how to harness the sun's energy in more prolific ways, the world can dispense with fossil fuel forever. Just imagine, in a single day, 173,000 terawatts of the sun's energy reach the earth. This amount of energy is 10,000 times the total global energy usage by earth's inhabitants in an 'average year' Think about that. It is mind boggling.
