Tan Cheng Bock and the birth of Singapore Harapan

This is the biggest piece of political news that surfaced over the weekend. SDP's Chee Soon Juan had rounded up the opposition parties to a meeting that sowed the seed of a united front against the PAP in the shades of Pakatan Harapan. For decades the Singapore opposition parties have been divided and factionalised into different tiny ineffective parties fighting hopelessly against the mammoth PAP machine. The quest was quite hopeless and very amusing if not silly to see them banging their heads against the wall. It was foolish and futile but they kept going at it as if a miracle will happen to change their fate.

The trumping of UMNO in Malaysia led by a 92 year old ex PM has been an eye opener to the conceited and hopeless party leaders of Singapore, like a mirror being held right in their faces to show their folly. It took Chee Soon Juan, the man that has been demolished and character assassinated as a lone ranger, fighting just for his own personal cause, to step up to dispel this myth. No other opposition party leaders was selfless enough to make this move, to bring in a third party in the name of Tan Cheng Bock, to unite the frail and fractured opposition parties together for a common cause, to bring down the PAP.  This move alone tells a lot about Chee Soon Juan, the man that they did not know or told to believe as otherwise. The real spoilt sport, those that would not want to be a team player, those who have selfish agenda, would not think of coming together in an alliance to be a real political force to be reckon with.

Tan Cheng Bock may not be a Mahathir, but he has enough respect from the people, conviction and commitment to do the necessary for the good of Singapore and the future of Singaporeans. It takes a lot of guts and conviction to want to do something like this, to bring down the ruling party, a once mighty political party that had done good for the country and people in the first few decades of its exixtencwe. Things must have gone very badly wrong for  an ex PAP stalwart to want to stand up to his old party that he once believed was the force of goodness.

The fear is gone. Tan Cheng Bock has taken a bold step that no ex PAP MPs or ministers dare to tread. The line is broken and hopefully this would encourage more ex PAP members to join the queue in this Harapan to do what is right. Many must have seen the rot and are fuming but for one reason or another, chose to remain in the dark corners of anonymity wallowing in self pity. The robbing of the people must be stopped. The selling out of Singaporeans to foreigners must be stopped. PRs are just passing by and will go when the time is right. Cheng Bock has lighted a match to show the way. It is time to make a difference, to do what they believe is right and good for Singapore and Singaporeans, not for locals and foreigners that are not Singaporeans.

Now where is that Chok Tong and his gang? Would he think or deem that it is time to join forces with Cheng Bock and the opposition before it is too late, before it is all over? All the ex MPs and current MPs that can sense a sinking boat should decide to abandon ship before it is too late like in Malaysia.

The seed for an uprising in the politics of Singapore has been planted on 28 Jul 18. It needs to be watered and nurtured to be kept alive and live another day. This is the hope, the day that all Singaporeans are quietly waiting for. Let not the light be snuffed out before it lives to see another day.

Singaporeans need a Singapore Harapan, not a local or foreigner infested Harapan to lead Singapore and Singaporeans to a better tomorrow.

PS. The parties that were present were Singapore Democratic Party, the People’s Power Party, the Democratic Progressive Party, the Reform Party, the National Solidarity Party, the Singaporeans First Party and the  People’s Voice Party. All the major opposition parties were invited.

One reason why there's so many small opposition parties in Singapore - and therefore making the opposition very weak and ineffective against the self-aggrandizing PAP elite - is because these leaders of these small parties want to be Prime Minister if the opposition wins.

They think that if they are members of a single large opposition party, they may even not have a chance to be a cabinet minister.

Therefore, better to be the head of a chicken than the tail of an ox.

@ all

I agree with the sentiments so far: not much of a chance lah

PAP and the sg.gov are one ofthe most trasparent and accountable govts. in the whole world lah. This of course is a "relative" and not an "absolute" observation.

Plus we all know what's going on: e.g. who slapped who, who rabah rabah women's tetek, who got drunk, who kena scolding, who kena scolding so terok they committed suicide, who kena sue until backside koyak...

Singapore like everywhere else has winners and losers of govt policy. But overtime, we (like all the other Sheeple in all the other cuntries) accept ridiculous ideas---like paying $50k+++ for COE, for example---and bitch and complain about it...then just carry on with our lives.

It is very very difficult to unseat the incumbent, especially when the incumbent virtually controls the ground, and is The Sheeple's "preferred choice".

Unless there is blood in the streets, violent civil unrest, crippling debt and rapid debasement of the currency (hyperinflation), it is UNLIKELY that the incumbent will lose an election. They might lose a few seats. If they suspect weakness in certain areas prior to a GE, a good dose of tried-and-proven GERRYMANDERING usually "fixes the problem". If you are the incumbent, you can gerrymander the fuck out of the polity. People will yeall and scream "UNFAIR!", just fucking ignore them. They have no power, you have ALL the power...they know it, you know it and you will use it.

Absolute power corrupts....which is great for you because it skews the odds in your favour, so why not use it? 🤡💲💲

The wind of change from the north has swept swiftly towards Singapore. Dr Chee has taken the initiative to invite the Opposition parties to discuss the idea of forming a coalition under the leadership of Dr Tan Cheng Bok. This united front may win over voters who fear that Singapore will be fragmented if the PAP is overthrown. The political landscape is about to undergo a
drastic change should the Opposition succeed in forming a coalition. It is about time Singaporeans get a new deal instead of the present raw one.

Ask yourself this: How good is this guy, and what are his chances (if he goes along with the opposition)

Dr Tan was a stalwart in the PAP, probably their most successful candidate.

Also, people like him. Under difference "circumstances", he could have been president.

Even the business community is warm to Dr T, cos he is sensible when it comes to govt tax people too much...putting fees here and there, locking up the CPF (which is a tax) etc. As for having an opposition: Dr T is probably the best man for the job

People are begining to become skeptical about the PAP and it is entirely the fault of the PAP. The next election there will be no "bump" due to the death of LKY, the PAP will have to win back the HEARTS of The Sheeple, or it will definitely lose a few wards.

However, political change is SLOW. Singapore is stable so a "seismic shift" in the polity is unlikely to happen. Like I said: no blood in the street, no worries.

However, there are such things as Black Swans---the unknown unknowns which can and do happen all the time; with greater frequency than what most people think, (due to our cognitive biases and fucked-up ability to evaluate probability, we underestimate the likelihood of Black Swans---or anything based on hard-to-understand abstract concepts )

One "Black Swan" would be Dr T returning to the PAP. Anything can happen!

The Black Swans are the New Citizens. While many of the imported Indians tend to convert themselves to PR, many of the early batches of imported Chinese have been converted to New Citizens. The majority of these New Citizens have been voting PAP in the past. However, the relentless, continuous, repeated belittling and aggressions towards China and the Chinese People by PAP leaders and lapdogs in the past two years have angered these New Citizens. Therefore, they may throw in protest votes to get back at the PAP LEEdership.

According to some backward induction deduced logical hypothesis, this "hum chee" was meant to warm the seat for NOT 14 years but just slightly beyond the 1991 GE?

Alas, (old) man proposed, divine disposed?

In 1992, while in Africa, news like "lightning struck" back home that 2 deputies kena "some spell" liao ...? Is it true?

So the story goes ..... This "hum chee" then managed to "warm the seat" originally "scripted"?

But the "script" NEVERTHELESS have to be "played out" ... bef bucket kicked the leg after the 2003 scare but recovered?

4 years before the 2008 irreversible "karma", the "hum chee' was "kicked out" and the real "son of heaven enthroned" ...?

This hum chee recently went matland island holiday and acted as if he 3-yo cute small boy?

To compare hum chee to madhater is maciam a "candle" light to the SUN.

A far cry?

Cannot be any further?

Just like gal gal quited lo(oooooo)ng aGOA for red hair Tuaaaaaaaa KEEEEEEEE, this "hum chee" may have "QUiteD" lo(ooooooooo)ng aGOA on peesainites ...?

1. Dr TCB wins a GRC.
2. Lim Tean wins a SMC.
3. Dr CSJ wins a GRC.
4. The other OPP combined wins a GRC.

5. WP retains Aljunied GRC.

6. WP retains Hougang SMC.

Total number of seats won = 22.

PAP increases overall total of seats to be contested to 100. Therefore, PAP still have 78 seats in Parliament, retaining the 2/3 majority to pass any new law to be enected.

Win-Win situation achieved!

All politicians happy. LHL extremely happy because his son Li Hong-Yi becomes DPM.

The Opposition was routed in GE 2015. There was no existential crisis in Singapore that could induce the electorate to vote for change. A majority of voters eschewed politics and accepted this ridiculous state of affairs for decades. Dr Tan provides a glimmer of hope that changes are long overdue. The onus is on the Opposition to provide a viable alternative to win over voters. It has just taken a small but important step to recover lost grounds.

For years, the PAP government has lulled the voters into a false sense of security. With their minds in shackles, 70% of the voters are unable to perceive the important role a strong Opposition can play as a check on PAP excesses. With 7 parties forming a Coalition, unity increases strength. An increase in manpower will allow them to strike deeper, wider and harder into PAP wards. Dr Tan leading a huge Coalition with members from Team Opposition in walkabouts would be an unprecedented show of force. The Opposition must be seen and heard. Numbers do count.

A video footage showed how the Russian Mafia Godfather Alexander Zhestokov, 39, was gunned down as he threw a party to celebrate his release from prison.

Zhestokov - rumoured to be a leader of the feared Zapsibovskie Gang - had been hosting a party in a Dzambul bar at the industrial city of Novokuznetsk, south-west Siberia.

He was seen talking to associates when the gunman approached him dressed in black, with a hood and dark glasses, carrying a firearm with a large silencer.

Moral of the story:

If you behave like a Mafia Chief, you are likely to be gunned down in cold bloodblood. Do be careful how you make use of your power. If you keep sucking blood money from the poor in order make yourself rich or to give to your wife to gamble big time, or cover her losses, then one day somebody will be so pissed off that je might just do something that you never expected.

Anonymous said...

Anon 8.41 said it all. If the coalition wins, who is going to be PM and who calls the shots? Six or seven parties coming together, each with leaders with big egos, makes it difficult to jell. I hate to ask if this will work?

The most likely possibility of this ever working is for Cheng Bock to form a new party, and if the others are willing to work for the good of the country, rather than personal benefit, then they can join his party and accept any position in that party that is agreed upon by the majority. Take it or leave it must be enforced. In this way, the hierarchy is clearly defined and no arguments later on about positions if they succeed in winning. Otherwise a fragmented opposition can achieve nothing in a thousand years.

There is still the other factor of SPP and WP not involved. Chiam is now old and frail and probably not too concern about political manoeuvrings. Moreover, this meeting of the coalition was set up by his adversary and you can understand why he stayed away. After all he has nothing more to prove, having been an MP multiple times. The same goes for stalwarts of the WP. They have fought and won on their own merits over many elections.

That said, it would be a positive move if Cheng Bock can and is willing to unite the opposition to take on the PAP in a more concentrated and undivided way.

Sinkies vote based on self-interests & "special factors".
1. Govt competence; last 5 years even the blind Sinkies can see the much higher level of incompetence (SMRT is just one of many). The PAP competence brand has dropped a lot. Easily will cost the incumbent 3% to 8% of votes.
2. Costs of living; last 3 years, see a series of relentless & unreasonable hikes in water, gas, electricity, transport, education, etc. Though this is nothing new, but the intensity & frequency of hikes has pained many, many Sinkies. This will swing another 5% to 8% of votes against the PAP.
3. The one special factor of LKY death swung 10% votes to PAP in 2015. In 2019, we will be back to 60% to 61% baseline for PAP. But if Tan Cheng Bock leads the Opposition, there will be a swing in favor of the Opposition by 2% to 3%. Especially in view of the incredibly fake "Presidential" election of Indian/Malay Milo Lady.
4. Million dollars ministerial pay plus undisclosed bonuses will be a sore irritating factor when incompetence is obvious. Including buy high sell low wifi Jinx, and her secret compensation. Another 1% to 2% swing against the PAP.
5. New citizens of additional 100,000 votes will add 3% in favor of PAP.

So objectively the popular for PAP will drop to 52% to 57%.
Nevertheless, they will still hold 75% of the seats because of "playing the election boundaries, etc".
90 seats: 20 seats to Opposition & 70 to PAP.
Though hope for a pleasant surprise of PAP 50 seats & Opposition 40 seats, so that every politician will be really on the ball to serve Sinkies interests, because there will be real competition. A political monopoly overtime will only serve its own interests despite how good it had started. Wake up! Its in human nature & the lure of big easy money from a MONOPOLY. Will Sinkies wake up?

This is sad :((((( ......

SIGH ...

One common issue among most oldies is their health and the healthcare and costs they could be facing

Every other day, the publicly run polyclinics are often flooded with oldies and many are from the low-income group.

As a medically trained doctor and a senior, he should know the plight of the elderlies, especially those from the low-income group and when stricken with acute ailments that need hospitalisation.

Usually such oldies might try save $$$ by going to the polyclinics as outpatients but when some are of "serious conditions", more often than not they are referred to hospitals A&E for holistic treatment.

The plight for low-income oldies often could start from there

Any low-income oldie who was hospitalised before probably could most understand the likely issues that would come ("troubling" them) ...

Often, the acutely sick low-income oldies can only opt for the "cheapest" ward which is the "C" class ward

Why "cheapest" cos for "C" class, it is a 8-bedder ward with no frills. Not even a toilet in the room, much less any tv etc ...

But the costs?

Just the bed itself in a "C" class ward (before subsidy) one day cost more than or comparable to a luxurious 5-star hotel room with immaculate and plush furnishings???

The saying that the oldies can die but cannot get sick maybe true ...???

Between 65 to say the average life expectancy of 81, the number of times oldies can afford to be seriously ill can be counted by the fingers of one hand (before they get into dire financial difficulty)?

It is a "vicious and wicked" issue?

When the charges of one (miserable functional condition) bed in the cheapest "C" class ward cost more than arguably any or 90% of 5-star or 6-star hotel rooms in matland cities or Genting, you know you have an "issue" on hand?

As a medically trained doctor who once even set up his GP clinic deep in the Lim Chu Kang poor kampung area (called AhMaKeng), hopefully Dr Tan Cheng Bock can bring some relief to the oldies especially those from the low-income group ...

Usually the weak, the sick, the poor, the lower-income, the elderlies ... etc are in no position to avert being ...... It would be timely if Dr Tan Cheng Bock emerged as the saviour to provide some relief in managing their healthcare needs ...

Even it is one for the entire year, it is one too many!!!

This is not a way out. According to some beliefs, the sufferings do not end in death if that is the cause. So for people especially those lower-income, elderlies, youth etc, please seek help and DO NOT choose this way. Please. Think of the pain it is going to cause to the next of kin.

Perhaps such innate desire of being concern for this world, especially sinkies whose backs are to the wall or corner would elicit outpour of support if someone such as Dr Tan champions such a good cause and for many, willingly to put sacrifices/ voluntary work and nothing ask in return. Just the natural sense of justice to mitigate the sufferings of fellow beans and do (some) good together (in DEEDS/ ACTIONS and NOT words or political rhetoric).

This world especially in our own homeland (if we can still call it one), there is a need for people such as Dr Tan to lead and give the people hope, a hope aptly called Singapore Harapan!

In times of change, a leader is needed. The people's prayer (day and night) may have been answered. To make the red dot great again, the road ahead is almost certainly arduous, long and daunting. Nonetheless, historically whatever that stood in the path of a tsunami (of change) stand to be swept away into the deep blue ocean and oblivion.
