Boon Wan the Sweeper

When the housing problem reached a stage that was waiting to blow up, Boon Wan volunteered to take on the task to clean up the mess. Actually it was no mess as far as his predecessor was concerned. It was all expected, prices determined by market forces, prices were affordable, and there was no queue and no demand even. It was a beautiful situation except that the home buyers were making nonsensical noises.

If a junior minister were to tell the MND Minister that there was a serious problem, he would be shooed out of his office. When the MND Minister said no problem it meant just that, no problem. Who had the audacity to tell him otherwise? Luckily Boon Wan was heavier and could use his weight to shove the MND’s objection aside and to do what was necessary.

So Boon Wan went on a ramping programme to ram through all the barriers against building more flats. Eng Hen was full of praise for Boon Wan for decisively tackled the housing problems created by his predecessor who would not admit that there was a problem in the first place and thus no actions needed.

With the housing problems stabilized, Hsien Loong should move Boon Wan to the MOM to tackle the growing problems of foreigners, fake degrees and discriminations against our own PMEs, to remove the term ‘local’ to tell the real story of how Sinkies are fairing in the job markets, to ram through the walls of local and foreign owned companies that are refusing or discriminating against Sinkies for employment.

Here again, Boon Wan’s weight as a senior minister would come in handy to bang his way through. He could decisively tackle the employment of PMEs and the fake qualifications problems just like he tackled the housing problem. He could order the CEOs of foreign companies to wait outside his office instead of crawling to their offices to beg them to be nice to Sinkies looking for jobs.

I support Boon Wan to take on the MOM and deal with the crisis immediately. No more dilly dallying. The mess is real big, bigger than the housing problem and growing by the days.

What do you think?

No lah, with the housing problems stabilized, Hsien Loong should move Boon Wan to PMO to become PM and clean all the shit Ah Loong caused with his leederhip lah, tio bo?

Strange huh. Can't solve own problems think can solve others. Wonder how many think alike.

Every step they took in the last few years is a recognition of the problems they created.And the show goes on. Instead of praising themselves, they should do some soul searching, as one Minister advised. Why are you the cheerleader for Khaw? Wasn't he the Health Minister whose shortsightedness is responsible for the current malaise? These mandarins ought to be docked instead of being praised, starting with Mah and Khaw.

The more pertinent questions are:

Despite all the Sinkie problems, big or small, solved or unsolved, will WP be ready to be govt?

Or failing which, is another opposition party ready?

The answers will decide the answer to the next question.

Will 60% still vote for PAP?

Tio bo, u tell me lah?

Anonymous said...

I think there is a 93% chance the opposition will still not be ready to be govt next GE.

So the most pertinent question should be:

What will make 60% Sinkies vote for the opposition despite the opposition being not ready to be govt?

Anonymous 8.46am .....you are proposing ......

Khaw Boon Wan to take over LHL as PM?

When the situation gets "desperate", even if it means recalling one's own grandmother from retirement and back to the "war front", and that can move one more inch forward, so be it.

Quite sure Rb doesn't mind if the people in charge even throw in their kitchen sinks at the problems.

Remember, "时势造英雄"!

So whoever it is pls kee chiu for the job and be the new "英雄"!

This world loves and adores "英雄"!

Btw, one of our on line "英雄"s is Rb

Cheers to the future MOM "英雄" :)

Thanks PSS, kopi level rising up nicely and could be green if it continues.

I like to praise our ministers for a good job done. If not the IB will say I only criticise.

But the MOM really needs someone to shake the monkeys off the trees. The PMEs are suffering for too long like the young home buyers.

KBW ex Penangite, ex Malaysian.

See how the PM of Mal lai see ah hoodwinked the international community in the wild goose chase in searching the MH370 MAS plane.

Might come in handy when future policies screw up big time. Need foreign talent to hookwink the sinkies and the international community again

No. Khaw should not be put there in MOM. That way, they will lose the PMETs votes by 2016 and beyond. This can only paved ways for multi-parties in Singapore, so that the citizens have real levers moving forward. It is not without basis that the Economist has ranked us high on our crony-capitalism. This needs to be shaken out politically and systematically.

So, u're saying Boon Khaw is better at it with a no valuation policy, and for his robust building of more flats, is that a assumption or have u gone through a buying house process?

You agree to buy a house without a value?

Another 5 cups of kopi for you red bean.

Hi Pinky Poo, I will never agree that he has done anything extraordinary but to clear the shit left over by his predecessor. There are still a lot of things need to be done and sometimes in the land of the blind the one eye jack shines.

MOM needs immediate attention.

Certainly!

Indeed.

Also it is often said that the netizens criticise without offering any suggestion.

Now, perhaps things can move more positively forward through some suggested incremental and quantum changes.

1) Mindset change.

Many are still operating in the last century autocratic, paternalistic mode drawing world's highest remunerations but putting in, on many occasions, satisficing efforts ( aka minimal efforts to fulfil obligations ) as evidenced in many results manifested on the ground.

This should and has to be changed if there is any vision, desire and goal in place to ensure that by 2065, when the nation celebrates its 100th birthday or 100 years of nation building, the people can stand tall and sing the "Majulah Singapura" in spontaneous unison with Pride and Love for the nation.

As a start, the following is a suggested 28-word new mission statement for the public service to mark some baby steps changes towards a renewed hope and aspiration:

“以民为先, 创造价值, 开源节流, 见微知著, 见端知末, 鞠躬尽瘁, 死而后已”

Hi PPS

You're not reading what the netizens want either, we do not just criticise only, for donkey years we have been saying, instead of building big billion dollars insect keeping domes or lizards keeping, whichever you prefer, and bridges that cost billions of dollars, such money can and should be place into taking care of the needs of people like education which could be free, like medical which could and can be almost free and even taking these huge amount of into the transportation which can be free, afterall, the word, "public", does not be creating wealth for CEO's but its a service to the community as a hold. Surely the chiodren of special needs, needs such money and attention more.

Who are we to tell the leaders what to build or not to build as they came in with the majority of the people's blessings but the kpkb is about do we actually need big multi million durians, do we need covered parks which is used only 10% of the time, do we need an airport of the 21st century whci houses again trees just for show and tell.......should not the poor get the help so that there is no need for help, we are the most expensive place in the world...this should tell you the dynamics of growth and creating wealth has over shadowed us as our salary versus the increase of everything else is skew and will create hardship and pain.

PPS, instead of just looking at what RB writes maybe as a starter you should also read the likes of others, we do give solution but are they hearing, are they even bothered to look at us....just look at who attends the meet the people session.

All gov in this world are there to screw their own people. Defense are set up to protect the rulers assets from their own people and enemy. The rulers here at least do a favour by screwing their own people to spur them to move to other greener pastures where houses and cars are affordable so they can screw them there in a very different way. Why would a small tiny country be one of the top investors in Oz?

I have a feeling that most gov cooperated at an international level to screw the people in this world. They made them moved here and there to cause miseries. With miseries, fears, insecurities, race and religions disputes, they can control the mere mortals more easily. The term divide and rule is very real.

Halo "Pinky Poo"兄/ 大姐,

The “节流”in the new suggested 28-word mission statement不是含概了您上面所写的意义吗?

3)@Pinky Poo 3.19pm 17 Mar 2014: /// such money can and should be place into taking care of the needs of people like education which could be free, like medical which could and can be almost free and even taking these huge amount of into the transportation which can be free, afterall, the word, "public", does not be creating wealth for CEO's but its a service to the community as a hold. 同样的,The “以民为先”in the new suggested 28-word mission statement不是也含概了您上面所写的意义吗?

4)@Pinky Poo 3.19pm 17 Mar 2014: /// but the kpkb is about do we actually need big multi million durians, do we need covered parks which is used only 10% of the time, do we need an airport of the 21st century whci houses again trees just for show and tell.......should not the poor get the help so that there is no need for help, we are the most expensive place in the world...this should tell you the dynamics of growth and creating wealth has over shadowed us as our salary versus the increase of everything else is skew and will create hardship and pain. ///

Again, the “节流 , 以民为先, 鞠躬尽瘁, 死而后已, 创造价值” in the new suggested 28-word mission statement同样不是含概了您上面所写的意义吗?

5) @Pinky Poo 3.19pm 17 Mar 2014: /// instead of just looking at what RB writes maybe as a starter you should also read the likes of others, ///

"Pinky Poo"兄/ 大姐, hopefully the reply above convinces you that what RB writes and what “the likes of others” write are all “carefully read” by 小弟PSS。But whether those who are holding high positions, receiving fat-cat remunerations, staying in 20,000 sq ft bungalows, commuting in Lexus, Bentley and what have you, dining at exquisite high-end restaurants, attending almost 6-digit figure cooking lessons, built French-like Chateaus in little red dot etc etc read “yours and the likes” writings/ kpkb, that you have to ask them.

Hi Pinky Poo,

It's ok. Social media has many I T experts. That can be sorted out some days at a convenient time if you need assistance. "MSN" is the "meeting place". :)

Certainly agree with you that much is needed to be done to uplift many aspects in society. That's why came up with this suggested 28-word new mission statement for the relevant party to consider:

“以民为先, 创造价值, 开源节流, 见微知著, 见端知末, 鞠躬尽瘁, 死而后已”

For the benefit of readers who are "not so at home" with Chinese characters, below is a basic translation but may not be so perfect:

1) The first 4 words 以民为先 means putting its people first in health care, education, opportunities etc;

2) Next 创造价值 means creating value for its people in this new era in meaningful careers, interests, aspirations to "release" the latent talents of the people and continue to be an economically vibrant powerhouse;

3) 开源节流 - this phrase has 2 parts. The first 2 words mean diversify our reach and open up more sun rise industries, sectors, markets, resources etc for our needs and increase the society's income. The other 2 words mean spend and use the budget prudently and in areas more critically needed in society and not on white elephants, ostentatious wasteful projects etc;

4) 见微知著, 见端知末 basically means to be quick and nimble, sharp, proactive, insightful and stay ahead of the curve. To plan ahead and not wait for calamities, over loading, crises to occur etc before doing anything. Not to be reactive to situation but instead be proactive;

5) 鞠躬尽瘁, 死而后已 - To be wholeheartedly serving the people and not self-serving, self enriching.

Hope the above simple translation is helpful.

Cheers :)
