Punggol East – A by election PAP cannot afford to lose
The PAP is looking like a party on the decline. It has gone past its golden years when support from the people could be more or less guaranteed. This support has been quite badly eroded over the last few years and it is now clinging onto the hard core supporters and party members to keep it going. The unhappiness against the party could be seen in the last few election results.
Starting from the 2011 GE, it was the first time the PAP lost a GRC and a couple of ministers in one go. If this was not enough, the Presidential Election saw its sponsored candidate winning by a whisker and could have lost if there were less candidates in the foray.
Next came the by election in Hougang when the WP was in a defensive mode. The indiscretion of its MP Yaw Shin Leong, who eventually resigned, was a great opportunity for the PAP to retake the ward. It could not do so and the more than 60% votes for the WP was a very significant statement that the support is for the WP or the opposition.
Now the PAP is presenting the opposition a chance to take away another ward for the same reason. In Hougang, the indiscretion was to the WP’s disadvantage. In Punggol East, the indiscretion is to the PAP’s disadvantage. And there are several other very serious issues that the PAP has to answer and would not be able to answer
Losing Punggol East would be a serious matter, it would be like the confirmation of a trend that the PAP is on its decline. It would be saying that it could retake Hougang but unable to do so. And it is now unable to even defend its position in Punggol East. Losing Punggol East is going to create a very serious impact on the fate of the PAP in the next GE. PAP would have to win to hold on to its political fortune. Otherwise it will see its fortune being chipped away, a piece at a time. And there could be another few by elections on the way before the next GE if the wheel of fortune is to dictate the end of the PAP. PAP must win this by election.

PAP on the decline? Of course. The writing is on the wall. When you have more than half top posts filled by military, it speaks volumn. Show me a military man that suceed in coporate world and I will sleep with ease at night. No? Then we should all be worried.
So long AIMGATE is not properly explained to those living in Public Housing, the Folks In White will remain as haunting shadows in the mind of the People.
The trust and faith are as good as gone and the forced smiles on their faces are as good as begging for sympathy. Had they being as talented as they have been claiming, it will never have to be so pathetic.
Sadly, greed for power, wealth and fame has overwhelmed them to cause them to lose much of their consciences.
Even if PAP retains Punggol East SMC, it will not make up and or amend much. The damages to their standing simmer for decades, fortifying the indelible negative impression of them. Even those that were with them for decades are singing different tunes with them.
The Day will come starting from their defeat at Aljunied GRC at GE 2011.

why are you guys so pro PAP?
Give them such good feedback for what?
Just tell them everything is fine.
The internet is just background noise.
Tell them Singapore is very well run.
Singaporeans are very happy.
Tell them to just keep repeating LKY's hard truths.
Singaporeans can't seem to get enough of such good advice.
So what if PAP loses power one day? That's what the people wants and that's what people will get. Singapore will still continue.
"why are you guys so pro PAP?

Feedback ? What feedback ? Forgive us the Sinners to vote in this party to screw us again and again.

"The government of Singapore is subsidizing GIC and Temasek losses by paying their implied obligations to the CPF even though the they have not earned a rate of return sufficient to cover the cost of debt capital. In other words, the government of Singapore is subsidizing GIC and Temasek losses to the amount of the rate of return earned by GIC or Temasek minus the 4% it pays to CPF account holders. Financial losses attributable to GIC and Temasek but covered by the government of Singapore, significantly increase the risk of CPF deposits.

What ? CPF no money ? Don't worry, PAP government has themselves protected:

I think Singapore is the best paradise ever as long as you continue to live in dream and wonderland, never waking up to brutal truth.
What do you think ?
If anyone think that PAP will lose in election think again. It wins even when it loses. Singaporeans are still the losers.
Head PAP wins, tail opposition loses..

That show the amount of political engineering design to entrench PAP into power.
PAP losing Punggol East by-election? Go and read this guy's analysis at www.bohtong.org
"PAP losing Punggol East by-election? Go and read this guy's analysis at www.bohtong.org"
If PAP wins, PAP should increase GST to 10%, double the hike of transport fare, increase electricity fee by another 20% etc because voters show that they enjoy sufferings dish out by PAP, and PAP as a party of money can happily oblige.
>> Losing Punggol East would be a serious matter, it would be like the confirmation of a trend that the PAP is on its decline. <
"Confirmation of a trend"? I don't think so. This is only one data point. It would be silly to draw any conclusion from it which would help in predicting the future.
Hougang: cannot be considered a factor. This has been WP ground for years already. So Punggol East has to be observed on its own. If you bring in Hougang into the discussion, you'll only be fooling yourself and getting up false hopes.
I don't need the results of a by-election to inform me that the PAP is "in decline", and actually the issue is unimportant because of the unwavering law of society, political economy and culture: The People get the Government and the cuntry they deserve.
"Toute nation a le gouvernement qu’elle mérite"
Does it matter if PAP win or lose this BE. They will still be the government. They will continue to draw million dollars salary. Their policies will continue to make the rich richer and the poor poorer. Every thing is hunky dory.Nothing is changed.
We just have ourselves to blame for being passive and give them a free hand to do as they please.
If you look at the quality of the PAP ministers and MPs, more than two thirds can be consigned to the rubbish bin immediately!!!!
PAP cut salary already and you guys still complain.
You want to cut until where? You cut until too low, you think LTK CSM and Co will want to serve?
Why don't we ask Ah Kow Ah Ter earning $5000 a month to lead the country ?
/// Why don't we ask Ah Kow Ah Ter earning $5000 a month to lead the country ? ///
why not?
How much worse can Ah kow and Ah Ter be?
When a PAP Town Council can sell Singapore assets to a $2 company, Singaporeans know we have nothing left to lose.
"PAP cut salary already and you guys still complain."
You cut salary and you promote them to get more salary ? How creative can they get ?
Of course PAP cannot afford to lose. This will be a barometer of what is to come in 2016.
There is in fact very little leverage that the PAP can put forward to consolidate their hold on Punggol East. Upgrading is a non-issue as the estate is new. In any case, Hougang voters even rejected promises of upgrading, and did the honourable thing by voting for transparency, justice and equality.
Will Punggol East voters do the same?
Seriously.
I think it's best for us if PAP wins Punggol East.
Then the PAPigs will convince themselves that it's business as usual.
And that Singaporeans support their policies.
And they can give themselves another round of salary increments.
This will result in 3 more years of misery for the daft Sinkies.
This should hopefully lay the ground for more GRC defeats for PAP when it really counts ... in the General Elections.
What if they move the goalpost or use a hockey goalpost for football within the next three years when they know what is coming?
They are very clever in closing loopholes in politics and elections, but leave plenty of loopholes in other areas for people to exploit before closing the gates after the horses have bolted.
The Chinese have this saying - Why scratch the area in pain first instead of the area that itches?
We should get as many opposition MPs into Parliament as soon as possible. It is because we have not done so over the years that we are in this situation and cying father crying mother.
Just be honest and vote your conscience.
Do you find PAP's behaviour acceptable?
Selling Town Council assets to $2 companies that PAP owns?
If the PAP wins, there may not be a Punggol East to talk about by the next election.
Putting Punggol East back into Pasir Ris GRC as it formerly belonged to, when it is under PAP control is different from putting Hougang or Potong Pasir into a GRC, because both the latter two are under Opposition control.
Further, getting rid of Punggol East is also getting rid of a bad stink hanging over the party's head brought about by Palmergate. Like Anson SMC and Cheng San GRC, future generations have little idea of the chequered history of what these two constituencies stand for.
Matilar, knn fuck u
So basically it appears that PE residents can choose from someone who will get their mall ready and raise taxes; someone who will run their neighbourhood well but doesn't have much to say about policies; someone who will try and try again; and someone who will argue a lot in Parliament.
The childcare centres should not count. That should be for the govt to deal with.
Anyway, for years now the PAP has been building new towns without the necessary infrastructure in place. For sure they're doing this in Jurong and the West Coast. It's been their hallmark for 20 years. So much for planning ahead.
Now that they have just announced two new MRT lines going to be built, what solutions have they in mind to solve the crowded trains that many are complaining without respite?
It is no use having more trains if breakdowns are going to be a daily feature of the MRT system with so many trains and so many lines criss-crossing the island. By relying too much on one major mode of transport, just to cope with the population growth, any breakdown is a massive inconvenience to a large number of people.
"Now that they have just announced two new MRT" - I predict
1) the existing old line is beyond repair and will be down once the new ones are up
2) there will be more influx of foreigners inorder to substain the return on the new lines and to pay for part of construction costs
3) gov will raise many things for the coming 5-10 years to pay for the lines - be prepared to pay more for everything
4) gov will control your mobility once the lines are up - be prepared to lose even that bit of right leftover.
The New Lines are planned more for alien settlers than to alleviate congestion and to provide convenience.
Another purpose is to keep the property price buoyant. And this is pre-empted by them getting the so-called property experts to show and have You informed on State Medias. So, in future Singaporeans cannot claim that they are in dark and make noise.
It's time for a regime change.
I can't even bring myself to look at a PAP politician anymore.
I don't read the newspaper anymore.
I don't watch the news anymore.
I just want a regime change.
