A second career in politics
Gilbert Goh has joined and left the Reform Party. Heard that he is now with another party. People like Gilbert, in fact there are many professionally trained and experienced people who have retired or in between jobs, should take up politics as a second career. The experience and wisdom they bring along after years of hard knocks will give them a more mature perspective of the expectation of life and what they can do for the people. And many of them are very able and could do much instead of waiting for another job.
A politician is a full time job, a career and a worthy one, and a worthwhile one as an occupation. What are they waiting for? Get together some like minded people, ten or twenty and that will be a good start and nucleus for a new political party. Joining an existing political party is easier but it means accepting all the culture and history and philosophy of that party.
Starting a clean slate with some people one knows better is more desirable and easier to move on without any old garbage. The young retirees are at the prime of their lives and have many more good years to go. What is there to lose when there is so much to gain?

My 2 hairy rambutan lah!
Count mine as well!
The Constitution should legislate that parliamentarian and policy maker must be a full time occupation.
NOT ONLY THAT, these office holders SHOULD NOT BE engaged in any other work.
A politician is a con-man before he is elected, a pig at the same trough as the crooks after he is elected.
The promises he made will never be carried out.
2 rambutans or 2 durians, for those who are prematurely retired and have another 20 good years to go, it is a good alternative to do something fruitful and productive on a personal basis.
Whether they will all turn into crooks is a different issue. We can tap on this pool of human resources who are apparently redundant instead of making our MPs and ministers working so hard and wearing so many hats that becoming an MP is only a part time job.
Let these retirees have a go at it, full time effort. It is a talent pool, local talents!
As a retiree with not much brains but plenty of saliva, I am dying to have a go at the zombie part time, absolutely well paid MPs who now graze(this is not a typo)our Parliament.
Having said that however, I don't want to join any political parties as all of them are a gathering of scoundrels.
So what can be done to get people like us be alloted interactive ringside seats to do our twilight years' "national service"?
Hehe. :o)
I like this kind of thinking. There are many good retirees who don't need a lot of money to survive. They can go into politics and give it a new meaning of what is serving the nation and the people.
I will support you. Just gather a few like minded friends and peers and have a go at it.
In the final analysis, I prefer to waste my plentiful saliva in wooing a damsel where I get more instantaneous "benefits" rather than aging on a fast track to a Mandai niche with being a politician.
No sir, I wouldn't want a change in my lifestyle for all the so called "honour" of "serving" the people.
I can serve the nation better by not crowding its hospitals which is already at a breaking point with the influx of all the foreign trash not to mention their ill health dependents, swooping into this little island.
To do that, I must relac and relac.
Hehe.:o)
Let's wish Gilbert success!
While some people do make a second career after politics, not many will want to make politics their second career, especially when retired.
I concur with Wally. After all, retirement is hard to come by in little red dot.
All I wish any individual who has surrendered to the temptation of politics for absolute control and decision over the lives of other people... is an assassin's bullet, or some sort of explosive device. :-)
Hey politician...suck on this!
Or die by character assassination?
Matilah, the guy who blogged to burn Vivian has his charged just dropped. Your assassination call can get you into shit if taken seriously.
I know you are just gossiping and not meaning it. Or else your next trip to the hotel may be eventful.
This Hotel called Sin will provide free lodgings and foods for those that love to sing too much praise for it.
Free shelter and free food, not bad huh.
redbean, just because I only have a PSLE cert doesn't mean I don't know the law.
I have never and would never CALL or INCITE or INCENTIVISE ( offer reward) murder or assassination.
My post Feb 25 3:02 begins with a WISH. My position has always been based on WISHING and HOPING.
...and all rational people know that wishing and hoping is completely devoid of an action or call to action.
So my WISH still stands. And I remain HOPEFUL :-)
Too deep!
