The Strategy that Creates Certainty and more

Blue Strategy - The Strategy that Creates Certainty, Embraces Change and Mitigates Risks

Strategy is understood by its ordinary meaning to refer to a plan of action involving the mobilization of resources in response to and to engage changes in competitors’ behaviors and happenings in the marketplace(s). Many companies and their consultants subscribe to this reactive view of strategy and focus most of their attention to watching their self-defined “competitors”. The common outcome from this strategic error is their loss of exceptional self-identity in the pursuit of the goals of other organizations instead of their own.

Blue leadership is the emergent leadership that is better aligned and aptly conducive to this era of uncertainty and permanent turbulent change. The “Blue Leader” emerges from the mountain of literature on leadership, strategy, human capital management, social responsibility and business excellence.  In previous Articles, I have described the discovery of Blue Leadership that is widely and openly manifested around us.

Strategy is the process to assure existential survival. Sustainability is the ability to continually create and re-create adaptively. The primary goal of strategy is therefore the assurance of sustainability. Leadership is about change. If there were no change, there is no need for leadership. In the age of uncertainty from permanent turbulent change, the key Blue Leader role is to engage and foster change. The intent of Blue Strategy is therefore directed at addressing the challenges and prospects of change.

Blue Leaders understand strategy to be a creative rather than a re-active process.  And strategy formulation is a decision-making rather than a problem-solving undertaking. This unique upgraded mindset allows a mental seismic shift from conventional time-focused strategic action to one that is change-focused.  In formulating their strategy, Blue Leaders take their cue and direction from the core purpose of their organization and its ultimate destination goal(s). The emergent Blue Strategy is a unique design thinking and experiential learning process that customizes an action roadmap for the journey to the ends of their corporate vision. For Blue Leaders, the essence of Blue Strategy is to “remember the future in the past”.

Blue Leaders live and act in accordance with The Blue Tao or Blue “Way”, better understood as a conscious philosophy or personal ideology dominated by four passions, namely strategy, service, people and performance. They are unlike conventional leaders who are reactionary in their response to issues and often based their decision-making on gut-feelings, legacy experience and imitating their presumed “competitors”.

Blue Leaders are driven by 4 passions towards the desired impact outcomes obtained in goal attainment. The 4 passions are integrated by unique personal values, and transcribed into the appropriate behaviors and translated into natural instinctive self-directed social action. Blue strategies are therefore purposeful, driven by the conscious values of the Blue Leader’s passionate orientations towards his visionary goals.

The variable combinations of his passions in decision-making provide the “sense” for his decisions and executive actions.  The Blue Leader is a continuous experiential learner.  The Blue Leader constantly reflects on his worldly experience to construct and re-construct new social realities that maintain alignment with his consummate passions.

For the Blue Leader, what is most important about any event or phenomenon is not what has happened, but what it means. This defines his overall approach to Blue Strategy in the Terrain of Opportunity (TOP). The Blue Leader derives meaning from TOP happenings by using his passions and their orientations to provide a consistent sense-making worldview to empower conscious reality-learning through “knowing what I think when I see what I say”.  The Blue Tao (or “Way”) provides a sense of order and direction which informs the application of Blue Strategy.

The 9-Steps Flow of Blue Strategy Formulation is depicted as follows:

Blue Strategy formulation is a continuous flow of active learning and experiential activities through the stages of deconstruction, reconstruction and construction.  The Blue Leader’s mindfulness defines his capacity and capability to capture holistically the authentic pattern(s) of changing social realities. Self-mastery in Blue Leaders imbues in them the consciousness of action through the sense-making process.  It empowers exceptional courage for profoundly insightful reflection to inform fearless engagement and innovative decision-making. The awaken sharpened self-awareness in Blue Leaders strengthens their grasp on the relevant patterns of social reality amidst turbulent change to visualize meaningful coherence of the emergent trends operating in their terrain(s) of opportunity as they weigh the long-term impact of possible robust solutions among available decision options in Blue Strategy formulation.
Deconstruction Stage [Steps 1, 2 & 3]
1)   Capture Business Model Canvas
·     Review Value Proposition, Stake-Holders, Buyers, and Cost Drivers.
2)   Re-Design The Main Goal
·     Re-State The Main Goal(s) of Desired Buyer Experience.
3)   Current Terrain Appreciation
·     Value-lines Analysis & Identify Value-Vectors and Value Profiles.

Blue Leaders know insightfully that nothing is absolutely “real”; everything has been socially constructed or created by people both consciously and unconsciously, and bestow or embed or associate them with particular symbolic meanings by applying a variety of behaviors which have come to be assumed as “natural”.  During the diagnostic phase in the “Deconstruction” stage, strategy formulation reviews in 3 steps the active business model canvas to review and revise its unique value proposition (USP), evaluate the attractiveness of the USP on stakeholders and buyers, as well as structure of costs driving its minimum price value levels to assure alignment with the 4 driving passions and The Tao essence. The buyer experience is examined together with the 6 TOP elements (Shape, Structure, Hazards, Psychometrics, Rules and Value) whose confluence embodies and defines the situational character of the Terrain.  The actual value profile is derived from the combination and bundle of value vectors psychometrically captured in the buyers’ mind to drive their buying decisions.

Many strategies fail because they ignore the lessons and knowledge underlying the analytics of the marketplace by focusing merely on superficial financial and comparative data without asking the critical questions regarding their historicity and meaning.

Reconstruction Stage [Steps 4, 5 & 6]
4)   Discover Terrain Value-graphics
·      Use Marketplace Dissonance Matrix to Evaluate Value Vectors.
5)   Design Target Value Profile
·      New Value Innovation Value-graphs.
6)   Construct Target Terrain
·      Re-configure Future-scape of Terrain of Opportunities.

The “Reconstruction” stage is the beginning of the planning phase.  The experiential learning in the same collective community during the deconstruction stage can be adapted to reconstruct a new business model canvas with a USP that is better aligned with the visionary purpose of the organization. Using a proprietary tool, the Marketplace Dissonance Matrix, the valence of legacy value vectors associated with existing products are assessed and compared for indifference and influence in the minds of buyers, for the strategic decision to eliminate, reduce or enhance for greater buyer attractiveness.

New value vectors are also created according to feedback analytics and endowed with meaningful connectedness to create the appropriate equivalence of desirability in new buyers.  At the same time, the 6 TOP elements are reconfigured and recalibrated for a new social reality more suited to the Blue Strategy outcome to become truly “different from the rest” rather than the delusive “better than the best”. As the Blue organisation pursues its unique purpose informed by the 4 Blue passions, competition becomes irrelevant.  No one competes to beat you to the destiny of your own vision!

Construction Stage [Steps 7, 8 & 9]
7)   Map Target Terrain Profile
·      Describe new Value Vectors and Define Desired Value Profiles
8)   Describe Value Innovation
·      New Products with the new Value Vectors and Love Marks
9)   Strategy Execution Protocols
·      Using the 9-Actions Pathway for Blue Cultural Change Impact.

The “Construction” stage is the prelude to strategic actions.  Blue Leaders see the environment, communities and their surroundings with a unique systems worldview, where everything is related and/or connected to everything else. The organizing principles of Blue Strategy are connectivity, complementarity and relativity. To Blue Leaders, change happens; mostly for no reasons or rational causality. And the only way to manage change is to embrace it, mitigate its risks and create certainty.

Blue Strategy produces an intentional action plan towards the creation of some desired realities best served by new value-laden products of exceptional value vectors. Yet, as soon as the plan is completed, it would immediately be overtaken by “unforeseen” change and become obsolete!  The strategic efforts flow now continues into the next never-ending Blue Strategy formulation cycle.

Unlike conventional strategy formulation, Blue Strategy does not finish with a thick Strategic Plan manual.  Blue Strategy formulation incorporates and follows through with Strategy Execution through the 9-Actions Pathway. Understanding Blue Strategy entails the understanding of its parts, as the parts are necessary to the understanding of the whole; especially the connectedness of the 9-Steps Blue Strategy Formulation to the 9-Actions Pathway, especially in the interaction of the 4 Action Trigons with the Tao and Passions of Blue Leadership.  In this manner, Blue Strategy is cooperatively, collaboratively and creatively formulated using applied adaptive experiential learning.

The ranting of Professor John Boyer in Plaid Avenger

Sat morning I will be busy shooting photos for the masters athletes at Bishan Stadium. I will provide this link for you people to amuse yourself. The speaker is a Professor John Boyer, an american. He ranted in a very animate way, a bit like Amos Yee, very articulate but minus the vulgarities.  His ranting made a lot of sense about the realities of China and what is happening with China in world politics.

It is only 38 minutes of hilarious infotainment and you will come out more informed, trust me.

Here is the link:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSs5GIKEMaA

Good news, banks grooming locals for key jobs?

Wait a minute, what is this ‘locals’ meant to be? Oh, it is our way of telling a little lie but giving it an impression of truth. ‘Locals’ does not mean Singaporeans. It is PRs and Singaporeans. The word ‘locals’ has been misused to deceive the casual readers that it is about Singaporeans. So if an organization claims to have employed 90% locals, it could be 80% PRs that are not Singaporeans and 10% Singaporeans. And of the 10% Singaporeans, half could be new Singaporeans or foreigners yesterday.

This word ‘locals’ is a very mischievous word. It is like pulling wool over the readers’ eyes. But unless Singapore belongs to everyone and PRs should also be owners of this island and should be treated equally in employment, like citizens, then it is ok if 90% of employment goes to PRs and 10% goes to Singaporeans and still can shout loudly that 100% of employment goes to locals.

What the heck, what am I saying, the daft sinkies would not know the difference anyway, or would not even bother. Let it be, no Singaporean is complaining. They are very happy being Grab and Uber drivers!

So what is this thing about grooming locals for key jobs in the banks? If I could remember correctly, someone said they were preparing locals or Singaporeans to take over top jobs in the banking and finance industry in 50 years. I can’t believe anyone can utter this kind of shit. And this news in the media is good news, for in 20 years, those ‘locals’ under training would be in top jobs, no need to wait for 50 years. It must be.

Nevermind if the locals are Singaporeans or PRs. The original Singaporeans that built this island got no talent and also would not complain, would not mind if this country is taken over by foreigners, PRs or not PRs, what is the diff? And in the same media report today, all the banks are gloating that they are employing 80% or 90% locals. Yes locals! If PRs made up 50% of the employment, it would mean 50% is Singaporeans. And if 30% of the Singaporeans are new citizens, it would mean the really local Singaporeans employed is only 20%.

Is this good enough? Is this a happy situation? What if in 20 years or 50 years time the top jobs are all occupied by ‘locals’ but not Singaporeans, or new Singaporeans? Good or not?

What do you think should be the situation in the future for Singaporeans? To me, the word ‘locals’ is a 4 letter word to deceive the daft sinkies. They would not want to tell you how many Singaporeans are actually employed or unemployed. They only want to tell you ‘locals’ are employed.

Is such cunningness good for Singaporeans?

Annual Symbolic Trial Of Christopher Columbus By Native Americans

Last year  I published four articles in Singapore News of Redbean Forum from October 12 to October 17 regarding the brutal crimes carried out by Christopher Columbus and thereafter by fellow whitemen for over 500 years against the native Americans.

This year as usual native Americans all over America in all the major towns and cities are carrying out a symbolic annual public trial of Christopher Columbus for all the crimes he had committed during the conquest of America. In this trial Columbus face multiple charges for genocide , slave trafficking, brutal exploitation, rape and robbery. The symbolic trial will end with his execution by hanging. Native American Indians throughout the Americas view his arrival in 1492 as the beginning of more than 500 years of European - whitemen oppression.

An article entitled "Christopher Columbus is no Hero" written by Joel Helfrich and published on October 9, 2017 in the website CounterPunch gives us more insight into the criminal nature of Christopher Columbus. Joel Helfrich thinks that Christopher should be judged in history as a criminal and not commemorated as a hero by whitemen. Below I quote a few paragraphs of his long essay on the crimes of Christopher Columbus. To get the details please go to CounterPunch for the main story
" What do the following cities and towns—Burbank and Los Angeles, California; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Oak Park, Illinois; Davenport, Iowa; Portland, Maine; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Farmington, New Mexico; Ithaca, New York; Charlottesville, Virginia; and Edmonds, Washington—have in common?
They have all, within the last month, replaced Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples’ Day. In so doing, these municipalities have joined the cities of Denver, Phoenix, St. Paul, Minneapolis, and Seattle; the states of Alaska, South Dakota, and Vermont; and various countries in South America that have taken a dramatic first step toward foregrounding the history of Indigenous peoples in the Americas.
Perhaps it is time for other cities, towns, states, counties, businesses, colleges, universities, and school districts throughout the United States to do the same.
Christopher Columbus is not a hero worthy of a national holiday, nor any parades. He is not a hero by fifteenth-century standards, nor twenty-first century standards. Columbus was incompetent and immoral. A self-promoting opportunist, he set out to find people to conquer and convert to his own religious dogma. In fact, he misinterpreted and created his own version of Christianity. He was truly a supporter of colonialism and all that goes along with it—rape, murder, enslavement, warfare, violence, control, conquest, and, yes, genocide."
Recent callous behaviour of Trump and his Republican and Democrat congressmen total indifferent attitude to the hurricane disaster in Puerto Rico and the threat by Trump to regime change the government of President Maduro of Venezuela prompted me to  write this article to remind the world that the suffering of native Americans by white supremacists is hardly over.  The United Nation Organisation need to do something proactively to help native Americans and to prevent and forestall any future evil acts by Trump and his white supremacists against the interest of the natives in all the Americas.

SGX proposes to make it easier to become remisiers

With an industry that is dying, and they still did not know why or refused to know why it is dying, SGX is trying very hard to want to prevent the industry from having to fold up. Unfortunately it is only a matter of when before the final nail is slammed into the coffin to seal its fate if they refused to see what is wrong with the stock market.

Good companies are delisting, trading volumes hitting record low, the gloating of increasing volumes in derivative trades would not help to tell a different story. It is so pathetic that a healthy industry, the envy of many, has reached such a state of despair, all because of a stupid decision to allow computers to trade against everyone and redesigning the whole system to facilitate the computers to make the killing.
So, what is there to attract more new remisiers into the industry? What is there to prevent good companies from delisting when listing in the exchange is meaningless, cannot raise fund and share prices being shagged to penny stocks?

The reality, the income in the stock market is worst than the income of fishmongers and vegetable sellers in the wet market. So, who would want to be a remisier in the stock market? If the income is less than $1,000 or in a good month, $2,000 net, without CPF, with no staff benefits, no paid leave, no paid holidays etc etc, I would think such jobs would only be good enough for people with 3 O levels. It just does not make sense for people who have better qualifications and could earn more to want to join the industry.

OK, for the investment specialists that could be earning $3,000 a month, maybe the qualifications and entry level could be a little bit higher. But how high before putting off the potential workers who could get more in any other jobs? With so many stringent requirements and examinations to take, just to earn $1,000 to $3,000, would it be more ‘senang’ to be a Grab or Uber driver, and earning much more, and could own a car some more?

Only the daft would still be thinking that smart Singaporeans would be crawling on their knees to come begging to become remisiers. Only the daft would think that the stock market would somehow come to live again without having to remove the cancer.

If one does not know the cause of an illness, or refuses to want to know the cause of an illness, how could the illness be cured? What is the point of prescribing medicine for flu when the patient is dying from AIDs? More cosmetics would not do much to stop a dying patient from dying.

Misunderstood Yaacob Ibrahim

I quote what Yaacob said about being a minority from thestatestimesreview.
“It has been a difficult and challenging journey for my community. Sometimes, the majority does not know what it feels to be a minority community.”

Without giving any example, the Minister in-charge of propaganda and Muslim affairs also played the victim card and said that Singaporean Muslims have been “under constant scrutiny” after terrorist attacks overseas made headlines news in recent years:

“It is not a pleasant experience when your religion and your religious orientation is under constant scrutiny. For the Malay-Muslim community, this sense of being misunderstood is deeply felt, having been in the spotlight for quite some time. It has been a difficult and challenging journey for my community.”

It is true that given the circumstances, the Singaporean Muslims have been ‘under constant scrutiny’. Can Yaacob expect less? What Yaacob did not say is that this is a peculiar situation that would also happen to any community, even to the majority if their kinds are involved in the terrorist acts around the world and threatening to blow up some parts of Singapore. And this is not an issue of being a minority or being a majority.

The scrutiny is a result of terrorism and terrorist acts and nothing to do with being a minority. It just so happened that the terrorist acts around the world today is associated with ISIS and its religious connection with Islam. Yaacob needs to be clearer in his inference of how the Singapore Muslims are feeling under such circumstances. Being Muslims and being from the minority race and terrorism are two separate things. If the terrorist acts are not committed by Muslims in the name of Islam and ISIS, would there be such scrutiny against the Malay/Muslim minority? Unfortunately the Singapore Malays are Muslims and the dread of the world today is ISIS and Islam or ISIS abusing Islam. If terrorism is from a different religion that has no relation or association with Islam, this ‘under constant scrutiny’ would not be an issue.

I would agree that the majority does not know what it feels to be a minority community. Such a feeling of being a minority is not unique to Singapore or to the Malay community alone. Any ethnic minority will have the same sense of unease anywhere in the world, of any ethnic minority, as long as they are a minority. The Chinese may be a majority here but is a minority in many countries and also felt the same way, affected by being a minority. There is nothing new in being a minority. It is everywhere. Things get worst when ISIS is associated strongly with Islam and Muslims and the latter are also Malays.

But I must say that the majority of the other races, including the Chinese, are not staring at every Malay/Muslims and fearing that behind them is a terrorist. If that will to be the case, life would be very miserable and very difficult to get by, and inter racial tension and suspicion would only increase. Singapore would become dysfunctional. This is not true, not the case in Singapore. Generally all the races are going about their lives without being paranoid about the Malay/Muslim community.

Parliament sovereignty versus the Constitution

Shanmugam raised the concept of Parliament sovereignty in his answers to the issues raised by Sylvia Lim in Parliament. He is right, absolutely right in the interpretation of Parliament sovereignty, that the Parliament makes laws and can repeal laws, annul laws by legislation. That is the role of Parliament, the law makers.

Thus, when he said the govt made a policy decision to start counting from Wee Kim Wee, it has the right to do so, even to start with any other president or something like that, because the govt/Parliament is sovereign, can do as it pleases in a way. It writes laws and strikes out laws, it is the law maker, the law, the sovereign.

I would not dare to challenge Shanmugam on his brilliant interpretation of Constitutional Law. If he is wrong, I am sure many other brilliant lawyers would point it out, or at least the AGC would be there to keep watch, or the Chief Justice. Interpretation of the Law is the precinct and responsibility of the Judiciary, which I think includes the Supreme Courts and the AGC. Please excuse me if I am wrong, I am only a layman and this is a layman’s simple view of the govt and judiciary.

Just one point that I am still not very clear. Parliament may be sovereign, but it must still respect and abide by the Constitution. The Constitution is supreme in a way and the govt must work within the Constitution. If it does not like any law in the Constitution, it has to repeal/annul or strike it out and replace it with a new law. It cannot make a policy that is against the Constitution. It cannot violate the Constitution or it would be lawless, against the rule of law.

The interpretation or policy decision to use Wee Kim Wee as the reference point, as the first Elected President, to rule that the latest EP election is due, does it violate the Constitution? The Constitution also said that a reserved EP for minority president is due only after 5 terms when the minority did not have a president. To use Wee Kim Wee as the reference point, it is violating the provisions in the Constitution, the intent and spirit of the reserved EP in the Constitution?

A govt policy decision cannot violate the Constitution if I am not wrong. It would become unconstitutional. The govt should seek to change the Constitution first, using its sovereign right to repeal the law and then act on it under the new law. Can the govt suka suka say it is a policy decision to use any past president to determine the 5 terms provided in the Constitution, or ignore the 5 terms, or declare a reserved EP for a minority president anytime if wants under the present Constitution?

Any brilliant lawyer thinks he is up to it to explain the above? Making a policy decision ultra vires the Constitution is definitely unconstitutional. Tiok boh? Parliament is sovereign but still bounded by the Constitution. Otherwise it is lawlessness. Remember the meaning of Rule of Law? What did the Constitution say about the 5 terms requirement? What is the spirit of the Constitution on the need for a reserved minority president?

PS. This is what Shanmugam said in his response to Cheng Bock.

‘Here is what I said in full, as reported in CNA (link below).
“Q: When would the circuit-breaker (to hold a reserved election after a racial group has not been represented in Presidential office after five continuous terms) come into effect?

Mr Shanmugam: The most direct answer is actually, the Government can decide. When we put in the Bill, we can say we want it to start from this period. It’s… a policy decision but there are also some legal questions about the Elected Presidency and the definition and so on, so we have asked the Attorney-General for advice....’

What do you think? Or any brilliant lawyers out there think otherwise, or all agree with our brilliant Law Minister?

Gang raping truth

What is the truth? Only the truth and nothing but the truth. It sounds so simple. The truth must be the truth, anything else is not the truth. The recent events surrounding the elected Presidency seem to tell a different story. The truth is nothing but the truth? It seems that there is not only one truth but many truths over one subject matter, over one fact or a series of events. Truth is subjective, up to the interpretation of the one speaking the truth. It is called my truth and your truth, or as Donald Trump's spokeswoman said, it is just an alternative truth.

Is this confusing enough? I am sure everyone knows what I am saying and knowing how confusing truth has become. And those getting confused are adults, thinking adults. And they in a way have come to accept that truth is not like what it was like before. They can’t even tell the difference between a rogue and an honourable man. There are many truths and every honourable man would swear to it that he is telling his truth and cannot be questioned or challenged, because that is an honourable man's truth. Honourable man does not tell lies and would never make a lie into a truth. So does the rogue.

What about the children? Could they understand that truth has many versions and depends on who is telling the truth? How would adults explain to the children that truth can be in different forms and not necessary the same? And everyone can tell his truth with a straight face when it is different from the truth, far from the truth.

This is a uniquely development in the little red dot. And as usual no body is questioning why it is so. They simply accept the truth and the truths in all forms and all shades of colours. Nowadays it is easy to accept black is white or white is black. After a while everyone would get use to it. It is the new normal.

Perhaps the word lies in the dictionary should be amended to truth. There is really no difference in the meaning of the two words. Truth = lies.

Talking about gang raping truth with no hint of guilt.

Corruption in Singapore

Corruption in Singapore

A different kind of corruption exists in Singapore – Reputational Corruption.  We are active participants and promoters of the longest running fraud in the global history of higher education.  Singapore Universities lend credibility and respectability to World University Rankings Standards whose flawed methodologies with spurious proxies of quality excellence have long been condemned by the United Nations, UK and European Governments as well as distinguished Professors of Higher Education.

Read here: A Decade of Shame

This is reputational corruption! Selling out our excellent Universities in exchange for a fake bogus brand of empty meaningless quality is a corrupt practice. There should be investigations into how much were paid in kind and cash, by whom and to who, as well as what personal benefits (if any) were gained by those who are involved in the decisions to accept the inducements and bribery. Singaporeans are such fools to repetitively allow the World University Rankings scam to flourish openly under our very nose, affecting generations of our outstanding graduates and Singapore's hard-earned reputation as a clean, no-corruption and authentic nation.

It is shameful to wear a fake bogus brand of meaningless excellence PROUDLY for more than a decade! The blame sits squarely on irresponsible and reprehensible leadership. Professors who accept the fakery should have their own research credentials seriously questioned and scrutinised. Singapore Universities must stop participating in the longest running fraud in the global history of higher education.

What an EP was supposed to be

Anyone can recall the original ideals of what an elected Presidency was supposed to be? There was a time when there was a fear that an elected govt could turn rogue. So a second key in the form of an elected president was conceived to check on the elected govt. Please register this word ‘elected’ into your brain, hard wired it as it is the crux of the whole elected presidency. The elected president must be elected to have the mandate from the people to check on an elected govt. Simple to understand? A non elected president, one that is not elected, does not have the moral and legal authority to check on an elected govt.

The reason is simple and logical. How can a president that is not elected, does not have the mandate from the people going to check on an elected govt? The elected govt will show the president the middle finger. Who do you think you are? Where is your authority? Who gives you the authority when one is just appointed by political convenience to be the president? See, an elected president is the key to what an EP is all about. If a president is not elected, on what ground could he check on the elected govt?

So the EP schemed was born and an election is mandatory, even if against a non interested candidate in the first EP election. The people must cast their votes to give the president the authority and mandate, even if it is 35%, it is better than none. Some may question whether a 35% EP has more mandate than a publicly elected govt with more than 60% or more popular votes. See the slippery part about this thing called elected and mandate of the people?

We have seen two walkovers in electing an EP. Both Nathan and Halimah were not elected by the people. So got mandate over an elected govt?
Things get more fuzzy and slippery when an EP, elected by the people, with the mandate of the people, can be overruled by a Presidential Advisory Committee made up of appointees that were not elected by the people. What mandate or authority does a bunch of appointees, unelected, over an elected President, elected by the people? You tell me lah? Gila or not?

And the latest Malay President that is technically and legally not a Malay, at best half a Malay, is the elected President. Oops, not elected, because it is a walkover. Got mandate or not? What happened to this crucial mandate that was necessary to have the authority over an elected govt? Never mind? Not important anymore? Walkover also can as long as he/she is the EP. Never mind for he/she can be overruled by a non elected PAC.

What is happening? Is this the EP that was originally designed, to have the mandate of the people to exercise a veto right to checkmate an elected govt? Does a walkover EP have the moral authority over an elected govt? Or this is no longer important anymore since the EP, even if elected, can be checkmated by a non elect PAC?

What happened to the word, ‘elected’ and mandate of the people? Walkover also means got people’s mandate, elected by the people?

What do you think?

Flash Athletic Meet at Bishan Stadium on 7 Oct 17

Some shots taken at Bishan Stadium. Unfortunately there was a heavy downpour and the meet was postponed to next Sat. So no pics of the masters athletes in action.  If any coaches are viewing these pics, one strange thing about baton passing, why are the receiving runners always stretched their hands to the sky? How are the other runners going to pass the batons to them? I have many pics showing how they fumbled in this basic act of baton passing.

What jam? Walk, and that’s what Jokowi did

When President Jokowi was caught in a traffic jam, he decided to walk after
30 minutes. He did not complain about the jam. Jam is good, jam is
progress. Jokowi ended up walking 2km to attend a military ceremony in
Cilegon.

When a President can walk for 2km and did not complain about the jam, I
think Singaporeans should learn something from this. When the MRT jammed,
walk. What’s wrong with walking? Stop complaining. When the trains jammed
it means it is overworked. When the trains are overworked, it means the
economy is vibrant, a lot of people taking the trains. It is a good thing.
It is progress.

So next time when one is caught inside a train, when the train is not
moving, cannot move, alight and walk. Be like Jokowi. Stop kpkb, stop
blaming everyone and everything.

Singapore NTU to End a Decade of Shame?

In 2008, an external, profit-making, foreign, non-academic organization adjudged and condemned NTU to pariah status, after she have nurtured thousands of Singaporeans (and non-Singaporeans) and transform them into top-class engineering, science, business, social science and other professional graduates in great demand by renowned global corporations, and who have decisively contributed to Singapore’s economic and social development journey from 3rd World to 1st World.

To satisfy the World University Rankers’ preference for foreign students and faculty members, NTU embarked on a systematic purge of local Professors, never mind that many are tenured, have accomplished internationally, and have served the University with distinction, and denied admission to many qualified Singaporeans by increasing foreign students admission, and forcing those from better income families to seek admissions to, ironically, top Universities overseas.

Some laws are also possibly broken with regard to the constitutional protection of Singaporean Professors from age discrimination, but no one in authority really cares enough to intervene in the irrational, mindless and bloody frenzy of the cultural revolution which spares nothing for the sake of meeting the Criteria of what the United Nations’ UNESCO has already adjudged to be a Bogus Ranking Standard of Dubious Excellence, in order to obtain a Brand of Questionable Authenticity.

A few hundred Singaporean Professors were purged from 2007 to beyond 2010. And more than 6,500 Singaporean students, or about 1,700-1,900 annually, were denied NTU admission through an arbitrary cut-off point into various 3-year and 4-year Undergraduate Programs from 2009-2013 for their places to be allocated to preferred foreign students.

Finally by 2014, NTU was ranked as the Top Youngest University in the World by QS Ranker, and ranking just 39th Worldwide.  Indeed, what a “climb” from 77th in 2008!  By 2013, foreign students made up 28% of the total undergraduate population from just 5% less than a decade earlier.  By the end of the cultural revolutionary purge of Singaporean Professors and staff in 2010, NTU proudly announced that Singapore Professors, including new Singapore citizens, formed ONLY 44% of the faculty with 56% of NTU faculty being foreigners from 56 countries worldwide including Singapore Permanent Residents. Never mind the fact that most Universities in the World actually have a majority of local Professors, even in the top Universities.

Given the dodgy nature of World University Rankings and their questionable deliberate fabrication of unreliably unscientific methodologies, NTU victories to their top ranks are in essence as pyrrhic as winning a beauty contest; the mere appearance of uncertain meaningless quality.   Indeed, what a wasteful use of time, management and financial resources!

Never in the history of Singapore has so many Singaporeans been forced to become collateral sacrifices in return for nothing of any value to our nation or the world.

We should stop participating in the essentially beauty contests of the fraudulent World Universities Rankings, so as to stop lending them our credibility by endorsing bogus standards of dubious quality excellence.

Come 2018, would NTU’s Decade of Shame end with a new NTU President?  In 2018, a new era must begin in Singapore Universities with Professor Subra Suresh as NTU President. The first step should be to cease reliance on and pursuit of a bogus standard of questionable excellence. We must return to authentic impact as the measure of excellence for our premier institutions of higher learning.
