The slippery road of no return

The Singapore Brand, a legacy of LKY that makes Singapore ticks and the role model of the world is taking a bashing in quick succession. It looks like they have buried the Singapore Brand with LKY and a new brand like the Chinatown or Rochore Canal Brand is the new replacement. Honesty and integrity are just two slippery concepts that can be twist and turn to suit the user’s needs.

There was an applications consultant hired by the IDA that was found to include an MBA from a degree mill in her resume. The explanation came after the social media went on fire to demand that she be sacked, that she was recruited based on the first degree from a reputable university, the MBA was not considered. Ask around and you will find no Singaporean with a decent grade would enrol in this reputable university that is ranked 551 in an international ranking. If I am not mistaken, many universities in Malaysia ranked even better than 551.

After incessant pressure for the ministries to act, it is reported in Saturday’s msm that an internal investigation found that the staff concerned ‘did not deceive the agency by listing the MBA from Web based Southern Pacific University, an alleged diploma mill, in her resume.’ The staff ‘…had genuinely believed her MBA programme to be bona fide, and she had put in effort to obtain the qualification, the IDA said.’ My auto pilot reaction when reading this was, ‘huh, got like that one?’

Such an explanation would never have been accepted in the past and no one in his right mind would dare to use it as a logical explanation of a wrong. And they have no doubt about her intelligence. She is a graduate from a reputable university and did not know what is a degree mill? Today IDA is using it as an acceptable justification to clear an employee alleged to have used a degree mill MBA in her resume. Can I take it that the govt and the ministers too would agree to this kind of reasoning, if they did not say anything against it, especially the Minister of Infocomm?

And there is another case of a foreign lecturer in the Ngee Ann Polytechnic who ‘received a master’s in education from non accredited, online based Breyer State University three years ago,…(and) is supposedly graduating from the same institution with a doctorate in psychology later this year.’

In defence of his appointment as a lecturer, he had 15 years of experience with the polytechnic’s School of Film and Media Studies, NP said he was appointed not based on his masters and doctorate degree. The polytechnic did not mentioned what qualifications he had when appointed as a lecturer and then promoted to senior lecturer. ‘NP added that Mr Jonet pursued the master’s programme of his own accord, and that it was no a job requirement and had no bearing on his progression at the institution.’

The only positive thing about NP’s explanation is that one does not need a degree or a technical qualification to be hired or promoted as long as one is able to do the job. In the past it was like that. This is the same position taken by a forum writer, likely a FT, in the main media a few days’ earlier that a certificate or degree is not necessary if one can do the job. Our hospitals and architectural institutions would now have a lot of doctors and architects to choose from if no degree or certification is necessary. In the past a dentist can set up a shop to extract tooth without going to medical school. And it worked too. Maybe our PMETs should consider becoming a dentist and apply to the MOH. But first must go learn how to pull a few teeth out from some mouths to show that one knows how to do the job.

Such a flexible approach to hiring talent is like back to the 3rd world. But looking at it positively it is Innovation with a capital I and 3rd world Creativity with a big C. Our rigid and straight jacket system run by our super talents would definitely frown upon such frivolous methods of recruiting talents. Or have they been won over by IDA and NP? No wonder we need more 3rd world talents to teach us how to do it the 3rd world way for progress. It is like anything goes. And please, no need to pay our 'out of this world' salary for this kind of standard.

Ok, forgot it is time to forget about LKY’s Singapore Brand. Now no need qualifications, can do the work OK leow. No wonder some ministers are discouraging our young from going to universities. If you can get someone without a good and respectable degree to teach our students, what is the point of going to get a degree? I like it very much. Non graduates can teach students to become graduates. It is novel for sure. How come I never think of it?

Shit, I am behind time. Our super talents are worth their pay. They have thought of it, ahead of me. I am really slow. Now the new mantra, ‘Bo tak chek’ can teach students to get a degree! Ingenius! And daft Sibkies are in awe of 551 ranked university as reputable, and this kind of talents to help Singapore to grow, to replace our PMETs.

Just enroll for any degree lah!

MBA, PPA, PhD, Kepala Otak or Muar Poh Otak. No Chinatown brand but Little India brand.

Submit your thesis by para sailing or what they called plagiarizing.

They will send you the degrees in due time.

Attached all these to your jobs resume.

You think all these HR Managers, Consultants go and check meh???

In the first place, they also don't know got these types of degrees for they themselves do not have one.

Or, is that the same that I brought??? Never mind, my same kind, both also black black, both also tellow yellow. Wah piang, can speak my same dialect some more.

Ka kee liang, get him/her got makan kaki. Somemore beholden to me, will kuay kuay support and listen to me in future Scheming for my promotion.

Must kill others so oneself can advance and be chief.

Aiya, do care so much, must get my supporters to carry me.

"... likely a FT, in the main media a few days’ earlier that a certificate or degree is not necessary if one can do the job. "

Actually hor.
It's the same thing about being a politician or a Millionaire Minister.
A certificate, degree, rank of General or Admiral is not necessary.
As long as the person can do the job.

With so many old PAP Millionaires getting old and sick;
We should hire more doctors and nurses from India to look after all of them.
No need to worry about degrees.
Cheaper service.
Better quality.
Why keep insisting on Singaporean doctors and nurses?

RB

Bashing no doubt, but does that make the Sinkie opposition ready to be govt?

If not, will the majority (aka 60%) voters dare to vote the PAP out in a GE?

And don't forget, the 60% most likely also includes lots of new citizens like the fake MBA application consultant hired and defended by IDA.

So the real Sinkie PMEs who lost their jobs to these new citizens, are there enough of them this time to vote PAP out, u tell me lah?

When the boss shouts and demands to have graduates from 'reputable' university you know which university he is referring to. Definitely not NUS or NTU. Their rankings too low. The higher the more reputable, like 551 or more.

See any convocations or now they called commencements.

They conferred so many honorary degrees without the recipients studying as successful entrepreneurs in their own fields or carry balls the correct way.

See the degrees more than bachelor ordinary ones.

They got ham chee peng berets and robes of rain bow colours. Must be very very high class ones.

The criteria is that you must outshine others in your so called professional field.

So if you are good in managing massage parlours and opened a few outlets in providing even in blow jobs then you are qualified to get a doctor's degree.

So no need to slot your brains out just Do It good in your field be it pimp and prostitute business, drug trafficking business. As long as you it right and have the correct connections.

You are in the way to at least a Doctor degree.

So put Dr on your name card.

I think I understand why our super talent minister said what he said that degree is not important. He may had known to him all this while. It some sort of preempt thing. See! how talent he is.

Remember one well-known monk with a PhD from one UK U?

They 'worshipped' him until his fall from grace. And then hantam his qualification.

Of course, a monk does not need a PhD. Priests might need a DD or DT [divinity, theology].

Having fake MBA foreign talents is better than having no talents, if that fake MBA talent can prove himself/herself in his/her job, according to the PAP.

Having PAP as govt is better than having the "not ready to be govt" opposition as govt, according to the 60% who voted PAP every election without fail.

It is simply a choice between the lesser of 2 evils.

Shall we try out a few fake medical talents on SR Nathan?
Will family of SR Nathan be pleased to volunteer him in the service of PAP and Singapore?

Yet another hilarious Priceless Mastercard Moment:

1. Your parents saving for 2 decades for your overseas education at a famous university: $200,000

2. 2 years of day to day living expenses when the you return home and are rejected from all the job offers: $100,000

3. The look on your face after coming home after graduation to work in as a barista in a cafe because diploma mill "graduates" get all the jobs you've applied for: PRICELESS!

Folks, there is a funny side to all of this. Lighten up lah.

3. The look on your face when the scholar is promoted into a PAP Minister and makes Pro Alien policy decisions like "Aliens are needed to do PMET jobs that Singaporeans are not qualified to do ... and you get retrenched: PRICELESS!

Why is the PAP government importing so many Indian degree holders?
Why not the PAP government send our PAP scholars to Indian Universities instead?
Then no need to import so many Indian graduates from India.
PAP scholars graduate from Indian Universities guarantee not a fake talent.
PAP where got any fake talents?

Anonymous said...

Why is the PAP government importing so many Indian degree holders?
Anon 2:08 pm

Because the PAP need the numbers for GDP growth mah, that's why. And Sinkies not only no enough numbers but also very expensive too.

And those Indian degree holders, including that fake MBA one in IDA, happened to be the best available ones and also in the numbers required for PAP lor. So if don't take them, then take who, u tell me lah? And not taking is also not an option because that will affect GDP growth.

And if even casinos are also OK for GDP growth, why not fake MBA holders too, if they are cheaper and also proven to be competent to do the job?

1. 40 years of CPF "contributions": $600k

2. Shit interest over that entire time: 2.5%, whilst the govt makes 20-30% on your and your employers' "contributions"

3. The look on peoples' faces when they come to withdraw their CPF and discover that $200k has been "held back": PRICELESS!

we are missing the point of can the govt tolerate a person that submit a fake qualification as part of the resume. This is an issue about the integrity of the candidate, nothing to do with high, low or no qualification. can we get that right? No integrity, everything is a non-starter!

Matilah_Singapura said...

@ non-statistical 222:

>> This is an issue about the integrity of the candidate

Yes and no. Please revisit the CONTEXT. Here it is:

The Singapore Brand: it is world famous and considered a "prize" for many seeking work or wishing to have a "better life". People across the socio-economic spectrum flock to Singapore---every manner of person from coolie to billionaire investor, many of them would like to come and set up in Singapore.

The FTs don't just compete with local Singaporeans for jobs; they compete with the other FTs. This was LKY's intent at placing spurs in the "slackers" to make them more hard drivin' and hard strivin' because guess what?...the competition are INTENSELY competitive, to the point where you can reasonably expect some of them to try and "game" the system.

One of the most obvious ways to do so will be to get some kind of "qualification" as fast and as economically as possible so that they can be in the running for a job in Singapore.

If the DEMAND is great enough, the magical free market will almost always provide to address that DEMAND. Thus it is PROFITABLE to form institutions which award "qualifications" at a reasonable cost, and in a short time---shorter than it would normally take going the conventional route.

Degree mills only exist because there is a DEMAND for such services. There is a DEMAND for such services because there is a DEMAND rom cuntrees like Singapore for a free, highly competitive and productive MERITOCRACY DRVEN labour market and workforce.

Non-critical thinking Singaporeans have been brought up to gullibly accept that "meritocracy" depends on your academic grades and the ability to get into a "world class" educational institution in order to earn "world class" degrees. So Singapore has a cadre of "degree holding" non street smart, non critical thinking fuckers who think they are above "reality" and entitled to success just because they perform well academically and have expensive pieces of paper to prove how "smart" they are.

As I said before, the 'reality check" is that employers seek hard drivin' and hard strivin' WORKERS who show their keenest and display and attitude of COMPETITION.

So entitled fuckers with degrees who think their shit don't stink get OBLITERATED by hungry and superiorly MOTIVATED fuckers from India, China and PinoyLand.

If I was a boss, I would eschew the entitled and arrogant degree holder who demands super-high salary, and would prefer the INTENSELY COMPETITIVE "underdog" who has PROVEN they are willing to do whatever it takes to get ahead.

You don't like what I say? Well then go fuck yourself, because if you don't have a job, it is unlikely you'll be fucking anyone else! :-))

Matilah_Singapura said...

P.S.

IMO it is perfectly ok to allow some degree mill candidates into the workforce, provided you take into consideration and verify their work history.

For e.g. if someone has worked in production and distribution in Guangzhou province for the last 10-15 years, and has only just got an MBA from the online Cao Xibai Institute of Business (aka degree mill), then they are probably good at their job and should be considered as a worthy contender for the position.

If some one has been assembling and hacking PCs for the last decade and has got a degree in computer science from Tang Ina Mo College situated in a Cebu brothel, perhaps this chap---obviously highly motivated and productive---would benefit your Singapore-based enterprise.

Bosses hire the potentially best people for the job. Not the fuckers who think just because they were "good students" means they're entitled to "success" delivered to them in a Golden Ricebowl.

Get fucked, you entitled shits :-)

Anonymous said...

Why don't you fuck yourself instead of spewing nonsense? LKY did not ask for cheats to cheat Sinkies. The FTs are cheats cheating each other.

You expect the Sinkies to compete with cheats and the govt encouraging the cheats or closing a blind eye?

So you agree that the cheat in IDA is a talent and should not be sacked? Please lah.

Anonymous said...

When he is talking nonsense we can understanding. That's him. When he is talking silly nonsense and tried to pass it as reasons, now that is pushing his luck too far.

But then where in the world you got a govt covering up for thousands of cheats and look the other way and say, 'No cheats leh, can't find any leh. All genuine cheats'.

I expect nothing. Their lives, they live or die their business. Nothing you or I say will have any effect on how the govt conducts their business.

Got "reality check"? ;-)

>> So you agree that the cheat in IDA is a talent and should not be sacked? Please lah.

Please lah. I got no skin in the game. I don't run the IDA. As far as I'm concerned, they (as well as other "modules" of the central planning/ social engineering machinery) shouldn't exist.

The IDA can employ all the "fakes" they want, I simply don't care. Singapore is a Hotel. As long as "The Management" keep it awesome, I'm a willing and loyal CUSTOMER.

BTW, how's that "reality check" going for you? ;-)
