Amos Yee: It is happening – The flutter of a butterfly

This is going to be the flutter of a butterfly that turned into a storm. Roy Ngerng, the unpretentious young man working as a social worker in a hospital was charged for slandering the Prime Minister. Then he went for broke. While waiting for the court’s judgement on the sum he has to pay as compensation, he must be expecting this to be prohibitive, Roy has taken a stance that there is nothing to lose. He is going to fight for every inch of the ground. He has internationalized his case by speaking to the world.

Now there is the case of a 16 year old boy, Amos Yee, being charged for sedition for his rant in a youtube video clip. He is still under detention as his parents could not put up the bail. While some were muddling around on how to help this boy, some already started crowd funding to raise fund for this legal battle, here comes Roy.

Roy has written an open letter of appeal for help to these international agencies, to take up the case of Amos Yee on the ground of child abuse. This is what he wrote in his letter, ‘On 29 March 2015, a 16-year-old boy Amos Yee was arrested and charged on 31 March 2015, just two days later, after he made a video which criticised the late first prime minister of Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew. Amos also spoke about the high income inequality in Singapore and attributed it to the first prime minister as well….’

The internalization of this case, if successful, is not going to look good to the govt. The question is whether these agencies would respond to Roy’s letter or ignore him. Then would the other human rights groups and local activists pick up the cudgel?

In the internet there has been a lot of comments and agitation for more to be done for Amos Yee. Where would these two cases lead to? Can the govt afford to ignore them, keep quite, don’t do anything and let the court to go through its due processes? If the foreign agencies and the UN choose not act, things could die down very quickly. But if these agencies start to make a case with the govt, then it is not pretty.

The PAP government like to use Foreign Talent to do jobs in Singapore.
So Singapore citizens and Roy Ngerng asking for help from Foreign Talents & Foreign Agencies is same, same.

I change the sex blogger Alvin Tan passages. Its really funny and if I quote the whole thing I will be accuse of sedition.

The only thing I know of that's more sensitive than my dickhead after sex: PAP.

Sensitivity and blasphemy is a code word for tyrant and reigious-fascist to murder or harm people.

Being brainwashed for so many years, many Singaporeans think sensitive is good but in reality it is bad

No point to internationalise both cases if the local support is not strong.

There will be nothing! There will be nothing!

Only kpkb and more kpkb only!

国有国法 家有家规 宫字两个口

可怜 可怜 真可怜!

We shall see!

It's a good time to see whether Singapore government and international childcare agencies are worthwhile or just talk cock sing song..

There is no way the govt or the courts are going to "go easy" on Amos, or Roy for that matter.

They are going to throw everything they can at Amos. Fortunately he has support from VALIANT INDIVIDUALS like the youth counsellor and 3 lawyers who feel strongly about the need for freedom, and also to ensure that the lad has some sort of defence against the all-powerful and might government.

It is heartening to know that Singapore has the few individuals necessary to step up to the plate and help a person in need. This shines a small ray of hope on the nation---there are INDIVIDUALS who will act by THEIR OWN FREE WILL, voluntarily, to take on the govt if necessary, thus keeping LOCAL affairs LOCAL so that there is no need to go cap in hand to the USELESS United Nations.

redbean, I do hope you are not being your usual sarcastic self. Roy is anything, but unpretentious. He is pretentious. And Amos has been used by him - just look at the charts and figures used by Amos - they were all from Roy.

Hi The, there are many angles to look at these two cases. We are just observers to the crime, oops, I mean to the events.

Who is to be the judge? Who is the one to cast the stone?

RB

Of course the govt can afford to ignore them, just by only taking one look at the state of the Sinkie opposition. And then ask the following 2 questions.

1. Is the Sinkie opposition ready to be govt?

2. If not, will the majority (aka 60%) Sinkie voters dare to vote the PAP out?

If answer to 2 is "Sinkies dare not", then the govt can safely ignore them. In fact ignore all those critics, whether on Internet or outside.

Has PAP Government already go cap in hand to the whole world to recruit Aliens with fake degrees to work in Singapore to grow the GDP?
True or not?

I have always maintained that the Singaporean government overplayed the Amos Yee issue. Should have ignored his rant and things will quieten down in a very short time. Have stirred up the hornet nest, it will be very hard to contain the flood of sympathy and interest from the international media. Good or bad for Singapore? We will have to wait and see. Flutter of a butterfly wing here may cause a storm around the world.

Thank you for agreeing - whether you realized it or not.

PM's used his underlings to prepare charts for him and they are working behind the scene. So, you are also saying that Roy is working behind the scene - which was what I was saying.

I just asked whether PM Lee prepared his own charts ... that's all.

To address your points directly.
So what if Roy prepared charts for Amos?
Only the truth matters.
Not who said it.

So the real question is whether Amos' charts are truthful or not?

What I am saying is that Amos is being made use of by Roy - and he's left in the lurch. That's all.

Everything is shaped by perception, PAP will pay for their over reaction to Amos-gate, as it is the high handedness and low benefits that is putting many citizens off. In the past under LKY, many people rose from poverty, under GCT, many people got rich (mostly on paper), under the unholy son Lee, rich get richer, middle class get squeezed, poor do get some help via workfare, but welfare are hard to come by, thus the many suicide or murderous mother came by into the news.

When cons is perceived to be much greater than benefits, that will be the weight that tips to PAP disfavor.

Oh!
You mean like how PAP government makes use of Singaporeans to do National Service for peanut pay while Aliens get the good jobs with good pay?

Well done Roy. Keep it up ! Let us know if more help is needed, in cash or in kind
