More schemes, more conditions for babies and housing

All the rules and restrictive conditions are simply unnecessary when the fundamentals are right. Today the govt is rolling out another $2 billion package to stimulate more births and more babies. It also tweaked the conditions for housing priorities.

All these are reactive policies, measures that try to patch holes caused by bad policies and assumptions. Why is the govt now so desperate for Sinkies to have more babies when all it needs is to import more fully grown adults, immediately productive? Why are the people not having more babies in the first place? What kind of life will our children lead when everyone is just an economic digit and each one will contribute to buy a million dollar pigeon hole and keep several hundred thousand dollars in the CPF dunno for who to use?

Then the housing fiasco that is going to balloon into the biggest monster Sinkies have to live with and many will have to suffer for the 99 year lease pigeon hole and paying for the main part of their lives. A 3,500 sq ft landed property can be had for $400k just across the causeway. Sinkies are going to live and work for the pigeon holes over their heads. And they cannot afford to stop work, both must work to pay for it. How to make babies and look after babies? No sweat, hire foreign maids and the babies will grow up speaking and behaving like FTs and can blend with FTs easier.

Why has the housing problem reach such a scale? And the tweakings and the conditions, are they really helping when all the govt needs to do is to do away with most of them and just simply build for the Sinkies. A caution here. Don’t turn every foreigner into a new Sinkie to add to the demand and the problem. The solution is so simple and no need more complex rules and conditions to confuse everyone without solving but adding to the problem.

just 2 points:

1) How convenient the timing of the announcement was. The WP has been plugging for paternity leave in its GE manifesto and also in recent BE rallies. Now, suddenly pregnant fathers also given paid leave.

2) Shouldn't priority be given to those who are married and yet to start a family because they don't have a roof over their head (and a room to make babies). Instead, the priority is given to those with children under 16 years of age. These people are already producing babies on their own accord and coping well. For crying out - this is preaching to the converted.

You said it all right!!! My son is already 31 yrs old and applying a 3room 300K BTO flat with his fiancee. He forsees that he would not be able to afford a car by that time so choose one that is near to facilities. His flat would only be ready in 2018! Can you imagine the cost of living by 2018 would be and bear in mind both parties would have to work their life to just pay for this damn small pigeon hole. A baby??? I just cannot imagine.

Hi rb,

This is just picking up big leaves from drain cover and throwing it next to the drain cover. Ponding solved. You see the problems there?

Altho I agree with your article here.
I also maintain another scenario-speculation in my mind.

That there is a grand scheme to get rid of Singaporeans so that only card carrying party members are citizens.
Once this happens, Singapore can be re-constituted as a corporation.
And the entire island becomes a new Special Economic Zone for China.

Dont make so much noise.

Sell your property here and quietly move North to get back the kampong spirit.

Be it Johore, Muar, Negri Sembilan, Taiping, Penang, Langkawi, Phuket, Hatyai or further North, take your pick. Wherever it maybe, it will be better.

Typical of PAP's schemes. They are meant to confuse and create layers after layers of obsticles. On one hand PAP will tell any challenger that they do have schemes for citizens but in rality few actually manage to benefit from them. What do you think?

Many young people are still not getting their flats from HDB. Some already screwed up by the old policies and would not be able to buy one except to be scammed by the resale market.

These young people are victims of the old HDB regime.

The properties in JB are very attractive. But still dare not move up as a mishap in security would be a regret for life.

We could have bigger space and properties for the Sinkies if the population has not be allowed to grow to this crazy number. And they want more.

Speculation in properties is only good for the rich with many properties. Those who can only afford one cannot speculate and will fall victims to the speculators.

Another lousy scheme .Pathetic to see Sinkies need such package as encouragement to produce babies .Those who fail to put in an effort to produce baby are asking for trouble themselves.
No one to send them off on their grand day.No descendent and beneficiary to claim their CPF when they are gone.Their pigeon hole will be return to HDB....saving in bank all leow...
Paternity leave for father?Only Ting Tong can think of that.Unproductive.
The only way to repent is to allow those man like me who loves to produce babies or whose wife refuse or have difficulty to produce ,to marry more wives legally.I dun need any scheme.Spent money to encourage couple to produce babies?Low IQ like me oso know.Really Phua Kay.
Please save Singapore.Have more babies without the need of any scheme.

RB..in days of yore...there'll be some (esp THE ONE) who says that Malaysia is waging economic war on us for daring to sell their properties to Singaporeans..The reason why property prices remain high is rather obvious..govt building more apartments and need to hold up the resale market so as to sell their expensive public housing..dont always believe THEIR policies are for the greater good. The reason why the Govt seem so kadang kabok is precisely that...they are kadang kabok!!!What happens after $400000 HDB apartments and $100000 COEs? What happens after 7million population???? There's no inflation in Singapore???? Inflations under control??? So many questions...no answers...
The only thing worse than headless chicken are headless chicken who think they have heads...hehehe

I am afraid all these good news are just some sweets to smoke screen the PE voters.

Akan datang - the slews of bad news after the PE by election. Just see ...

The WP have indeed made the PAP work harder for their monies. Within 2 weeks of the BE time frame they have given out more goodies to sweeten the ground. Would these be enough to win the BE? It just might. Sinkie are daft and easy manipulated like children. Just a dollop of honey is enough to stop them from crying.
Well DBS Vickers just said that population target is to be raised to 7 million. It will just make the little red dot more breathlessly squeezed!

@11:14
yes.

My summary:
1. Rich parents enjoy $99,000 in cash, subsidies and 16 months of paid leave, which could be worth thousands or millions, depending on the parents' salaries.
2. Poor parents enjoy $12,000 in cash and $6,000 in CPF grant.
3. The Singapore government continues with its mindset that the rich should get more welfare than the poor.

any idea where is PAP attack dog ? How come he never ask who pay for this baby scheme ?

Oh stupid me, There must be a reason why he is called PAP attack dog, and the word PAP say it all. My understanding is that his mouth can only attack anything other than from PAP, which is common sense.

Am I right ?

Where is the money coming from? SMRT can increase fare. This $2b must come from somewhere. Give first, take later? Are we expecting GST to go up, or what else can go up?

RB, this is one tactic on the thick black strategy and a common tactic frequently used by all ruling elites all over the world - Messed it up and then played hero to save the situation. Ever wonder why there is so much mess in this world?

Not only the rich will get richer, the new citizens (with kids) will benefit by having priority in getting HDB. Native singaporeans are still being screwed. I think a lot of indirect taxes will go up the roof.

All those tweakings did not help in alleviating high HDB prices, traffic congestions, over-crowded trains, high cost of living etc.

Those tweakings do help to ensure the Government do not loose out in every department that is continuing to squeeze the living daylights out of the hapless poor.

The big mistakes of Grand Oldman & His Talents self-inflicted policies that are ensuring local Sinkies have less babies include:
1. Stop at 2 family planning in 60s, 70s & 80s after-effects.
2. Introduce ever greater competition in education to stress Sinkie children & parents.
3. Make Sinkie workers work very hard and very long hours to cope with higher costs.
4. Create high asset prices through high land costs and high HDB housing prices.
5. Get more foreign workers at all levels to compete with Sinkies, and depress their renumerations and opportunities.
6. Make car prices unaffordable to most Sinkies and reduce their flexibility and convenience.

With such policies and high costs realities Sinkies can still be potent, Sinkies are already quite incredible and resilient. How to make more babies?

Not so for the pampered million $ paper generals self-proclaimed fake multi-talents, as so much propagated by Oldman for His Sons & familee. Why? Oh Why? just to stay in power?

Looks like schemes are coming out fast and furious before Punggol East BE. Property curbs, accelerate HDB buildings, new MRT lines, priority for families with children when applying for HDB flats, and a complicated scheme to encourage procreation.

All these will however be negated when the population reaches 7 million. They must still be thinking of growing the population by hook or by crook. Obviously the listening part after GE 2011 had been forgotten.

Anonymous said...

I don't trust all the dollar values of these schemes.
I only believe it when real cash is put into my hands.

If really sincere, no need to waste time with all these complicated, difficult to understand schemes.
Just make delivery for babies free.

A pregnant woman goes to hospital for delivery.
Present her Singapore i/c.
Everything is free.
Make it simple.

The increases in cost of living has not abated after the 2011 GE.
So is the importation of aliens. Now they want more.

They are kicking the can fast down the slippering slope.
And
they dont smell the shit they have
made.
However, Sinkies are nonchalant about the situation too.

Where got "fiasco"? Who says you *must* stay in HDB all your life? Haven't you heard of "upward mobility" aka "upgrading" in Singapore vernacular?

"Suffer"? Please lah. There're people in the world who are really suffering. Singaporeans should occasionally take time out to count their blessings.

"Pigeon hole"? Obviously you've glassed over the FACT that many, many SIngaporeans have done up their HDB's into magazine-quality examples of interior design.

Please lah redbean, there's another side to the story.

The sun is shining and it's another beautiful day in Singapore. Are any of the whingers amongst us willing to take the step to make it awesome for themselves? Or are they waiting for the government to "save" them?

Got pursuit of happiness?

Chua Chin Leng aka redbean said...

Yes Matilah, there is another side, the Matilah side, from the outside.

Ⓜatilah $ingapura⚠️ said...

Are you sure I'm on "the outside"?

I had a delightful dinner in the East Coast last night. Company 4 couple in total, that's 8 people, 1 foreigners permanently based, 1 younger just got a job with a stat board at a very low starting salary (a fraction of his Melbourne-based job). The rest -- 6 of us -- true-blue pink-NRIC born and bred Singaporean -- all males have defended their cuntry as NS men.

Guess what: All are "long" on Singapore. Sure we complain about how expensive it is now, but all things considered: it's a fucking rocking HOTEL.

None of the mat salehs at dinner want to work and live in their respective cuntrees because of the taxes and butt-crazy (socialist??) governments running the show -- taxing people and giving away free money to dead-shit losers when their cuntrees are already BROKE.

One of the mat salehs has done exceedingly well here: came here 6 years ago fresh out of uni, now owns a condo in the E Coast. His European cuntry: broke, his schoolmates and friends OUT OF JOB -- i.e. unemployed, sinking fast, no hope in sight.

...and you fuckers want to complain some more.

It shows you what can be achieved with a good positive spirit and the willingness to be a hard player in the wonderful game of MERITOCRACY.

Got winner's attitude?

Tired of being a loser yet?

Ya, the hotel is good for FTs but bad for the average sinkies and very bad for the less than average sinkies. The sinkies know and are damn worried. They are not going wait for the day when they are hit before they do anything. They are going to do it now, to stop the rot.
