Something right and something wrong

There is a letter in mypaper today by a Mrs Anna Lee on the good life of PRs in Singapore. When they completed their employment terms here, they take out all the CPF and go home to their big 'renovated luxuriously and comparable to a Good Class Bungalow here,' in the Philippines. And these are just the middle executives with incomes in the $2,500 bracket. With this kind of income, the exchange rate and low cost of living, their income here could multiply many times back in their home town. We can only boast of our great infrastructure and world class govt and world class lifestyle at world class cost of course. And the option is either or. We cannot have world class everything without paying world class prices. That is the only way and as they said, you can't have your cake and eat it. Our middle level executives with a combined income of $6000 to $8000 can at best live in a pricey 5 rm HDB flat. So, win some lose some. And for those graduates trying to find a decent job, maybe wait for a while to save enough for a 3 or 4 rm flat, and that would be quality living they can afford.

Envy not and fret not Singaporeans.

If You apply the intelligence of the Foreign Talents and learn from them, You too can have good life.

You see, Singaporeans can sell their 3, 4 or larger HDB Flats at a quarter million sgd or more and go over to the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, India, China, Nepal and the nearby Riau and Malaysia to live simple happy live or even life of luxuries for some. Of course, for those that consider all other countries other than their beloved SIN, backward and ulu(primitive), stay put BUT do not complain.

It is not fair to blame foreign talents and workers in Sg. They are APPROVED to work and reside here by the Authority. They DON'T just suka suka walk into SIN and take over your jobs and drive up the property prices. Many ARE INVITED by OUR Government.

It is WRONG to blame innocent others(foreigners) and time to RIGHT THE WRONGS and learn from the Foreigners as well.

Hehe,

Follow my example and live in a palace far far away.

When we curse the foreign trash, we are actually venting our anger at something else.

They know. They are not daft.

There is an old Chinese proverb which translated means (closely) 'planting trees so that the next generation can have shade'.

Older Singaporeans planted the trees, but the people who benefited most from the shade are the foreigners, not the children of the older generation.

How ironic! Who wants to stand up for Singapore anymore?

Our forefathers did not plant trees for nothing. But the ingrates do not think their descendants deserve better than foreigners. They rather pamper the foreigners than repay the effort of our forefathers on grounds of clever reasoning. Foreigners are here to help us and must be taken good care of.

Why are Singaporeans so anti-FT? They are in Singapore to help the Singaporean economy grow. Without the imported FTs, GDP owuld be depressed and Singapore will suffer economically. The Singapore govt has gone to great length to persuade the true blue Singaporeans to open their arms to welcome the FTs. The govt has even spent lots of money to help bring this about. So, please open your arms of welcome for the FTs. Remember, without them you will be really in trouble. For those new graduates who cannot find jobs, it is your own fault for being too choosey and for demanding too much pay. If the FTs can accept the low pay, why can't you? Think not what Singapore can do for you, but what you can do for Singapore, FTs included ofcourse !!!!

Why do you think that FT talents like filipinos work here in singapore? And why we are accepted, well FT are needed. Please explain why do you only highlights phillippines? Do you think what they have taken money thus not come from sweat and hardship? Please explain why your so particular with filipinos? They also pay taxes and work hard to meet singapore standard.

Phipipinas are highlighted probably because they envy them. With such a salary they can live in comfort in their homeland. Many of them including me also hope to have such
opportunity.They mean no harm.
Tell you one secret but don't tell others. My friend told me that I can easily own a land by marrying a pilipina.I got hope leow .I want to sacrifice myself and the first thing I want to do is to learn embalming in Loyola embalming school there.Come back here to be embalmer with minimum 5 K p m and sure I can be more comfortable .Mabuhay hay hay hay...

Singaporeans have become the butt of all jokes. They are considered pampered and lazy. They cannot do a hard days work and are envious of others who can. Sure the FTs come here to Singapore, earn wages considered low by the Singaporeans, but when the FTs send the money home their family are so well off. Poor Singaporeans, you have all become the butt of jokes by the FTs.

Aiya,Its envy.
You should be happy if Singaporean envy you.But never say they are lazy and pampered. Not all like that.
I am one good example.I sleep only 2 hours a day.Have to becos I owe my Garmen cpf , medisave and taxes .Me never dream that I can land my self in Court for being poor and not surprise to land myself in jail if I am poorer.
FTs got nothing to owe. That is part of the reason we envy. Not jeolous or begrudge.Me got nothing against FTs.
So Singaporen like me cannot be considered pampered and lazy.

To anon,

The rich Filipino and his luxurious good class bungalow was mentioned in the letter by Mrs Anna Lee. I just quote what she wrote there.

The Indians and Chinese, maybe Myanmese and Indonesians are also going home very rich. Some became landlords.

Come on Singaporeans. If the roles were reversed and given the same chance, you will do the same as well. Human beings will always act in their self-interest. All this talk of sinking roots and only accepting immigrants with sincere intent to settle down in just pure hogwash. I mean how do you gauge an applicant's 'sincerity' in wanting to sink roots? It is just impossible. And don't think that the act of naturalization as a Singapore citizen is sufficient proof of 'sincerity'. In many countries, citizenship is for life especially if it was acquired by birth. They can renounce their original citizenships to acquire Sgp ones, but regaining their original ones is but a formality.

You can read about an example of this scenario in the case of a former Indian citizen who naturalized as a Singaporean and now subsequently reclaims his Indian citizenship after he has retired and presumably to cash out of his CPF.

Instead of barking like mad dogs, why don't you put on your thinking caps and think of ways to benefit from the system like the FTs have done. Think it cannot be done? Well then sorry to see, you're not thinking hard enough. I have done it and many other ex-Singaporeans have done the same too. However, the caveat is that it requires sacrifice and some hard work. If such a situation is unfathomable for you, then I am sorry to say you have no choice but to grin and bear with what the PAP throws at you.

Peace.

Sorry forgot to add that the case of the ex-Indian-then-Singaporean-and-now-Indian again can be read in the Strictly Speaking forum on www.singaporeexpats.com

True, Singaporeans can find all ways to capitalise on the system and benefit from it, and get rich. Give up the citizenship, cash out the CPF, come back as foreign talents and start all over again. Save the money and buy a palace like Wally did.

Alas, Singapore will be populated by nothing but ingrates.

Only ingrates can call another human being, giving an honest opinion, as 'barking like mad dogs'.

How did we end up like this?

redbean, Singapore ain't perfect. But it is not the arse of the world either.

Land is premium, therefore rents and home prices will be high.

You can't have it both ways: command economy or open economy. The needle for S'pore is skewed to the open economy --- not perfectly open but by some measures only #2 in the world to Hong Kong.

Open economy means lots of foreigners will probably flock there to "try their luck".

I've always been an advocate of open borders and the free flow of capital, labour and knowledge. Like I said: S'pore ain't perfect, but it ain't that bad.

Having said that, I'm not about to stop criticising the govt :)
