Singapore ranks top in education ranking
Singapore students score top marks in science and mathematics in a survey among 76 countries conducted by the OECD. The survey was on 15 year olds in Mathematics and for 14 year olds in Science in the Programme for International Students Assessment. Hong Kong was second, South Korea third, Japan and Taiwan joint fourth. The next 6th to 10th rankings were from Europe. The rest of the 3rd ‘World Asian countries were ranked far far away.
What does this survey say? Singapore students were the best at age 14 and 15. And this is not the first time the survey was conducted. The results of past years have been consistent. The strange thing is that Singapore students were found quite useless in later years and totally hopeless and unemployable. And Singapore is so desperate that there is no talents in Singapore, wondering what happened to the bright 14 and 15 year olds, that Singapore needs to import huge numbers of foreigners from the unranked 3rd World countries to help it to grow, and to provide jobs for the useless Singaporeans. Without the foreigners, Singapore will sink, perish from this world.
Can you believe that? Is that true, that top students at age 14 and 15 disappeared into thin air or became duds as they grew up? If not Singapore would be flooded with our own top talents in many fields. What could be the possible explanations for this queer phenomenon?
One explanation is that the survey is inaccurate and unreliable as the correlation did not make sense. Two, Singaporeans are born with a defective gene that self destruct and all Singaporeans will become stupid or daft as they grow older, ie after year 15.
A third possible explanation is that the young of the 3rd World continue to make rapid progress to leapfrog over Singaporeans in intelligence and ended up as the desirable foreign talents to replace the daft Singaporeans. Can this be it? Must be it.
A fourth and likely explanation is that somehow the 3rd World graduates have scintillating qualifications and job experience that are better than Singaporeans in all aspects, including street smartness, skills sets, bluffology etc etc that make them so impressive and so desirable as employees, including ability to do wonders. Actually everyone knows by now how easy it is to get all the top grades and top degrees, and CVs and job experience without having to work for it. They could just buy them from the shelf. Or the institutions would sell them directly for a fee. I think this is the likely cause.
Now, how can Singaporeans then do better than these 3rd World talents? My recommendation is that if you can’t beat them in cheating just join them in their game. With the talents of our students, I am pretty confident that if we want to cheat, allow them to cheat, they would be able to cheat betterer, with distinctions. But you need to have the authority on their side and not on the side of the foreign cheats. This is very important for daft Singaporeans to be successful, to be employable.
What do you think? Our young are top talents but never live past 15 years old? Who is cheating our young talents?

Amos Yee’s cartoon – A survey
‘The judge pointed out that the defence itself had acknowledged that such an image could encourage young people towards sexual experimentation.’ I quoted this from the ST.
I am thinking of conducting a survey on how the cartoon has actually affected the young and lead them to ‘sexual experimentation’. I heard more than a million people have viewed Amos video and if half are the young, it means half a million young people would have been exposed to this temptation.
I can expect some young and old reading Kamasutra or Kamasutra the movie would be tempted to indulge in some sexual experimentation by the vivid pictorial acts in the book/movie. How many would really be excited by the Amos Yee cartoon to really want to have a go at it? Was it really that sexually powderful?
Anyone got any idea? Anyone has actually done it after viewing the video, please kee chiu. I would like to take down the numbers to see how temptuous is that cartoon and how suggestive it has been to the young. Would be interesting to know, and the PR and advertising folks would learn something from it to work out their next project.
PS. I am very sure there are people who have not seen anything so ‘explicit’ before in their closet livestyle and would have gone bonkers and sexually berserk. And there will be people who would say ‘you mean that is suggestive’ Yawn?
Coward of the neighbourhood
This guy thought he was the village chief of the neighbourhood. He could not stand a little noise by children playing in the corridor, especially the boy downstair. Whenever he heard the boy playing he got irritated. How could children behave so unruly in the corridor and disturbing everyone?
He shared his unhappiness with his neighbours and they egged him on. They agreed that he should deal with the boy. So this ‘village chief’ guy, or thinking he was the village chief got more garang. Then he went snooping on the boy’s routine. He also knew that the boy’s father was bigger size than him. He got to be careful of the boy’s father.
He waited for an opportunity to strike when the boy was alone. And one day the chance came. As the boy was coming out of the lift alone, this village chief walked towards him, whistling as if nothing was wrong. Just as the boy was passing him, he launched a sneak attack at the boy, slapping him. And then he ran for his life, got back to his flat, locked the gate and then taunted the boy in the safety of his flat, come and get me lah. Imagine he ran away from the boy he slapped! What a shame! Luckily he did not wet his pants in fear of the boy.
The boy was stunted for a moment. How could a big man suddenly sneak behind him and slapped him without warning? It was a very shameful act. The case was reported to the police.
When the police called on the village chief, he explained that he wanted to teach the boy a lesson. He meant no harm. The police found his explanation silly. If he was acting as a village chief, an adult, and wanting to discipline a boy, other than telling the boy’s father, he should have told the boy straight in the face. And if the boy was rude and he could not control his anger, might slap the boy like an adult. His sneaky attack and running away as if in fear of the boy hitting back was pure cowardice and did not make sense. He was behaving like a little rascal.
Anyway the police hauled him up and charged him for assault. And he walked into jail lan lan, with everyone calling him a stupid coward of the neighbourhood. Pity his wife and children to have such a stupid and coward man as a husband and father.
Was he a village chief, or a deluded asshole? One word of advice, look at the mirror first. An asshole is always an asshole. A coward is always a coward.
The Western model of might is right in the South China Sea
The Americans have been blastering the Chinese for claiming the islands in the South China Seas and encouraging the pesky little countries to do so promising to back them from behind. These islands were terra nullius when the Chinese claimed them. They were no man’s islands.
Under the old rules it was finders keepers just like all the natives of the world claiming to be the original people of the land. This rule was changed when the Europeans set out to conquer the rest of the world. They made new rules to conquer and seize countries that were already occupied with their own natives.
The Europeans that went to North America and Canada simply killed the natives and took over their land. Who cares if there were natives in the land. When they came to Southeast Asia, they claimed to have found Singapore, Penang, Batavia etc ignoring the presence of inhabitants in the island. Then they put a gun to the heads of the tribal chiefs demanding that they signed away their land so that they could be protected by the empires. They did the same to the Maoris in New Zealand. In Australia it was easier, just chased the aborigines into the outback and occupied whatever land they want. Australia was terra nullius. The aborigines were not human and did not count.
Now they are crying father and mother that China is claiming no man’s land as wrongful and instigating other countries to claim these islands as the right thing to do. Is this another aspect of American exceptionalism as well? The Empire will decide what is right and what is wrong. The only rule the Empire lives by is the rule it sets for itself and to be obeyed by other countries?
Now the Empire is thinking of claiming of a few pieces of the islands as well and is planning to bring in the troops like they did before in North America. China cannot avoid a war with the Americans that believe in might is right. The Americans would push for a war in the South China Sea, like it or not. It is a friendly and peaceful nation that is all out to start wars everywhere. Believe the Americans are peace loving people at your own risk.

Amos Yee’s grandmother disappointed
It was reported in the Today paper that Amos Yee’s grandmother was unhappy with his anti social behavior for spending too much time on the net. Wondering why the grandmother is now also in the picture. Would the reporters be interviewing his teacher in the kindergarten or his childhood friends to want to know how bad Amos Yee was as a child?
And everyone has an opinion on this boy, including religious leaders, supposedly intelligent and wise people. I have my reservation of these adults who think very highly of themselves and think they know more, betterer and wiser than Amos the kid.
Today information and knowledge are at one’s finger tips. And the children today are exposed to the libraries of the whole world and more. What a child could read, if he is interested, is unimaginable. And the knowledge they acquired could be many many times what an adult believed he knows for his 10 or 20 years in school. There is no comparison.
And in terms of morality, rights and wrongs, religious beliefs, who is wiser? Many religious leaders are just half past six themselves and their intellectual level may be far inferior to a bright child like Amos. And given the haziness and questionable religious beliefs, the subjectivity of rights and wrongs, good and bad, and moral righteousness, age is no criteria. A wise person is not necessary an older person, the parents or grandparents. You cannot measure them until they open their mouth to reveal their foolishness and ignorance.
The adults must not presume that they know best. The kids must be allowed to explore and learn as much as they could. Unless of course the adult is as wise as gods, and knows more than the child.
How many adults think so please kee chiu. I can only say this, don’t be too presumptious to think you know best or your right is right. How many people have the wisdom of the sages to be in a position to pass judgement on a kid? This kid Amos is a rough diamond and if polished by the able hands of wise men, could turn out to be a genius in the future. It is highly irresponsible for any adult to condemn this child for a little indiscretion at his age. The way the lynch mob went after him speaks for itself, about the emptiness in their heads. Thinking adults should not be so judgemental over a single incident like this and want to condemn and ruin the lives of this child. Ask yourself, are you fit to judge this child? Are you up to it?
There will be the prudes that would throw sludge at Amos, but there will be the kind souls that would offer him flowers and wanting him to grow up well. This is how controversial the incident has become. The world is not black and white but a long stretch of greys. And worst, white may be black and black is white.
