A normal kopitiam at night in Singapore. Typical night life of the average Singaporeans in a govt built housing estate.

LKY’s last wish – demolish his home
The children of LKY have come out in the open to plead with the Singaporeans to fulfill their father’s last wish, that is to demolish the house that LKY lived and where the history of Singapore was crafted. And if the house cannot be demolished, no outsiders should be given access to it except his children.
If there is a monument worth preserving, it must be this house in Oxley Road. It definitely has more historical value than the House of Sun Yat Sen that was beautifully preserved for posterity or the Alkaff Mansion. It definitely has more touristy appeals than Sentosa or the Garden by the Bay. There will be more long queues to see this house if it is open to the public. This is where everything happened in the past that is Singapore today. Every stone, every nook and corner in the house is of great value to the people of Singapore and those who are interested in the life of LKY. His grandfather’s house in China has been turned into a shrine to worship a new deity in the name of Lee Kuan Yew.
It would be a real pity and a real loss to this country, his country, to destroy something so precious. This crime will be in the league of the Talibans demolishing the ancient Buddhist statues in the mountains. Historians and archaelogists are digging the grounds of Empress Place for bits and pieces of our history of yesteryears. Here there is a whole monument intact that deserved to be preserved and protected at all cost. It is so sad that it has to be demolished.
The last wish of a dead man must be respected. And this is no ordinary man, the founding father of modern Singapore. Let’s grant him his wish, even if we have to sacrifice a very important piece of our history. Find a another monument to name after him or built a new one, like a 100 meter statue at the Marina Barrage in the likes of the Statue of Liberty in New York to welcome the migrants to our shore.
Let the man rest in peace, let the house go. I am saying this with a heavy heart. Many would like to sit in deep meditation in the house to feel, to touch the walls and floors, furniture and crockery, sit on the chairs, lean on the tables, to breath the air and reconnect to the days and moments when the pioneering fathers were drafting out the future of this city state. How they argued and fought and how the best views prevailed. How the likes of LKY, Goh Keng Swee, Toh Chin Chye, Rajaratnam, Byrnes, Othman Wok, Lim Chin Siong, Lee Siew Choh etc etc and the whole gang huddling together to overthrow the colonial masters
Your wish shall be granted. RIP. No need to get up. It is a queer wish, but it is his last wish. Respect ok.
An American Japanese joke
The Pew Research Centre came out with a report that the Americans and Japanese trust each other than they trust China. And the report also reminded the readers that this is despite the trusting Americans believing that Japan was trustworthy and negotiating for peace before they launched a sneak attack against Pearl Harbour without declaring war on the Americans and decimated the American Pacific Fleet and thousands of soldiers who were still sleeping after a night of partying.
And of course the Americans were so furious that Roosevelt vowed to do anything he could to avenge the dastardly attack by the sneaking Japanese. And the Americans went to do flatten Tokyo but not before dropping two atomic bombs into Nagasaki and Hiroshima. And the Americans believe that they can trust the Japanese to rearm itself and would not do another attack on the Americans to avenge the two atomic bombs on its people.
Immediately after the attack on Pearl Harbour, all the Japanese in American soil were rounded up and put into detention camp, because they were untrustworthy. Now they are all trustworthy. Good for the Americans and definitely good for the Japanese to be allowed to rearm, to reject the pacifist Constitution imposed on by the Americans not to even allow the Japanese to repeat what they did in Pearl Harbour. And Abe is happily provoking the Chinese to drag the Americans into a total self destruct war with China.
They said fools would never learn and history would repeat itself.
And the Japanese did not trust the Chinese. Why? Did China invaded Japan or was it Japan invaded China? Did China seize Japanese islands or Japan seized Chinese islands?
And did China attacked or invaded the US or the US attacked China? Who is the world’s biggest lender to the Americans? Who is lending the Americans in the trillions to buy weapons to threaten China?
The unbridgeable divide between govt and people
The govt on its part, believing that they are the brightest and cleverest human beans in the island, could do as they like while the people, the daft Sinkies, would blindly go along, unable to think and would simply accept whatever the govt decided for them without protesting. It is extreme arrogance of the highest order to even think it out loud that it is alright to act like deaf frogs and to do what they think best, assuming that the daft would accept everything as fait accompli. If the govt is really the most talented, and the people are really daft, then it would be a holy union, with the brightest leading the dullest. If this is not true, if the self professed brightest are really dull and the daft are really not stupid but bearing with it, this contrived holy union would be an unstable formula.
What is happening now is a situation where the two parties are having different dream and pretending to be moving along fine, sleeping in the same bed in the same sampan. The truth is that both parties are drifting apart tangentially but in a state of denial.
The rapid population growth is the idea of the govt, bulldozed through in Parliament but knowing very well that it did not have the blessing of the people. Even the unprecedented mass protest in Hong Lim was ignored by the deaf frogs, thinking that they can ignored the will of the people without any consequences. And the influx of foreigners continues unabated and even hinting that the population should grow even bigger, instead of 6.9m the target should be 10m with antiques being dragged out of retirement to drum for 10m population or more.
The most immediate and painful consequence of the influx of foreigners is the displacement of middle age PMETs. Many have been forced into early retirement, unemployed or underemployed with some desperately sending out application forms looking for a job that proved elusive. The painful part is to see foreigners waltzing in on social visit passes and landing jobs like a given. The problems faced by these PMETs, their psychological wellbeing and self worth, their failure to support their families financially, are starting to take their tolls.
What is more frustrating is their complaints of being displaced, being cheated of their jobs by fake and poorly qualified foreigners, fell on the deaf ears of deaf frogs. And over a short space of one week, the NTUC and TAFEP announced that these PMETs lost their jobs because of their own fault, no relevant skills and not because they were discriminated by employers and foreigners. And the Minister of MOM confirmed that this is the truth. In other words, there is nothing wrong with the employment and job market. It is normal, no matter how loud the displaced and unemployed PMETs are screaming it is no use.
If the govt and NTUC version is the truth, then the PMETs only have themselves to blame. If there are indeed discriminations due to the influx of foreigners, it is like crying for help but no one listening. It is a hapless plea, being wronged and disadvantaged but without anyone wanting to listen or acknowledge their pathetic plight. Whichever is the truth, the divide is going to widen and will never meet.
The govt is like singing ‘My Way’, or is it ‘Don’t worry, be happy’. And the poor down and out PMETs singing Les Miserables’ version of ‘Do you hear the people sing’, or is it ‘The end of the world’? The govt is very comfortable singing its chosen songs. Does the govt know and understand, or want to understand what the people are singing? Maybe this is a wrong question. The govt knows that there is no problem and the complaints of the PMETs are unjustified. Would the two parties ever get to sing the same song? If not, the divide will never be bridged.

Case against forgiving
My
previous post discussed the pros and cons on forgiving the wrong doers. The
generous and kind would want to forgive and let the asshole go in peace with a
lesser sense of guilt. Those who were hurt badly would find it difficult to
forgive and would not want to forgive. It would be too easy for the asshole
after what he had done to the victims.
Is
there a case against forgiving? Forgiving a child is easy for the child did not
know what he has done. Ignorance or innocence could be a reason to forgive when
there is no intent or not knowing the harm that could be inflicted on the other
party. But when the asshole is a smart
ass, knowing very well what he was doing and the pain inflicted, why should the
asshole be forgiven? Why must the victim be the generous and kind one, to take
the whacking and to let the asshole go free?
There
are many instances of assholes bullying, taunting and torturing their victims
right before our eyes. And the arrogance, the abuse of power and position and
wealth to oppress, to hurt, to ridicule, to bankrupt or to put people behind
bars, all done with a clear intent to harm the victim, why should the asshole
be forgiven? There is another way of looking at this. A politician is like a
man in ‘Jiang Hu’, 人在江湖,生不由己,he just had to do it
knowing very well the consequences or it is ‘you die or I die’. So be it. I
think this is bull. Modern day politics in a civilized society should be civil.
Another
point, why forgive when the asshole did not see anything wrong in what he did?
And why forgive when the asshole did not even ask to be forgiven? When the
asshole is repentant, remorseful, and regretted for what he had done, and come
begging for forgiveness, there is a case to forgive, to be kind and generous.
Why forgive an asshole that may even call you daft or silly to forgive him and
may want to shit on you one more time if given the chance and walk away strutting
around like a vain cock, telling the world how clever he is?
And
for those assholes that are still cocky like hell, and seeing all the pleas to
forgive but still go about bullying others, ridiculing others and harassing
their victims, let there be no forgiveness when their turn come. They know,
they knew what they were doing and what they are in for. Live by the sword die
by the sword, like a man. There shall be no mercy to the evil and wicked,
especially the very clever ones.
God
also believes so. He said he would come, one day, to judge and would judge
fairly. The evil ones would be burnt in the sea of fire. No amount of
confession or forgiveness would save him. Many clever ones do not believe in
such nonsense or they would not be doing what they did.
There
is another big reason not to forgive when politicians are wicked. They are not
supposed to, and there is no good reason to be so. The first premise of going
into politics is to serve the people, to do good for the people. Another person
or party too has the same idea, to do good and to serve the people. What is so
wrong, so objectionable and unforgiveable for another person or party to step
out to want to serve the people that they must be destroyed? They may have
different ideas and ways to serve the people and it is up to the people to
choose or reject them.
There
is no good reason to what them dead, to want to crush them like cockroaches at
every opportunity. What is there to be
so cruel and wicked, to adamantly want to harm them for wanting to serve the
people, to want to fix them? They are just like you, to serve
the people. They are not gangsters out to kill. Politicians are not gangsters,
right?
Going
into politics is an altruistic endeavour. Going into politics is not about
grabbing power, for personal glory and interests, to destroy other people who
want to do the same and not allowing them do serve the people. Why is it
necessary then to destroy other people who also want to do good? It simply
means that the intention is not altruism but personal, about protecting selfish
interest, power and glory.
For
this reason, there should not be forgiveness as the intent is not good, not
about serving the people but self serving. You are depriving the people from
being served by better men and women with better ideas.

PAP’s achievements in the last 15 years
Many people are very angry with the new PAP and like to
compare them with the first two generations of PAP leaders. They claimed that
the earlier leaders did a lot for Singaporeans and made life better. And the
new PAP leaders all only know how to collect millions but ‘jiat leow bee’.
Let me put the record straight, and be objective, look at
the real numbers, quantifiable achievements of the new PAP leadership. I just
do it in point forms, short and sharp to show you how great are the
achievements of the new PAP.
- In 15 years they were able to increase population by 1.5m. Old PAP with stop at 2, no population growth, a complete failure. See, clever or not?
- They created jobs for at least 1.5m foreigners with at least 500,000 in PMET jobs. Nevermind the few local losers that ended up as taxi drivers and security guards. The good thing is the 500,000 good jobs, some even being paid in the millions. Foreign countries are so thankful of the opportunities that they flew their national flags half mast when our leeder died.
- This one everyone can see, two world class casinos, beautiful and pleasing to the eyes, and very profitable by world casino standards, and provide very good jobs too.
- This one also everyone can see, world class and biggest aircon garden for temperate plants. Oh, one olive tree bears fruits. It’s a miracle to have olive trees bearing fruits in the equator. Great scientific feat and achievement.
- This one also cannot miss. The world’s most expensive under water stretch of road. How many billions, can’t remember, but know it is mind blowing.
- Another two great monuments coming out in Changi called the Jewel and Terminal 5.
- And 6 great world class universities, filled with foreign lecturers and foreign students on govt scholarships. In the last15 years, the estimate is at least $1b spent on these foreign talented students. Dunno how much was spent on the foreign lecturers and professors. Small change, no need to worry. We can afford it. The old PAP where got the money to spend on foreign students and academic staff? Had to rely on cheap on poor quality local students and lecturers. Oh, they don’t guarantee you a job or that you get the right skills set to be employed after graduation. Not able to find a job is your problem. But you can boast of a world class degree. Hang it up in your bedroom or toilet if you got no office to show it because you can’t find a job with it.
- This one every Singaporean owning a property, private or HDB, sure happy. The prices of their properties are worth millions. Even HDB flats are worth half a million or more. Never mind when the leases expire the value will be zero. Happy buying and investing. It will last more than a life time.
- And a world class medical service that you have to pay world class prices, that is fair right. Nevermind if one is bankrupt after one serious illness. You enjoy world class facilities and world class doctors and nurses to take care of you. Think already shiok.
- Oh, another world class achievement, in the Guinness Book of Record that can never be broken, the world’s 30 or maybe 50 by now, the highest paid politicians in the whole wide world. A junior minister would be paid more than the President of the USA. Our PM’s pay is more than the combine salaries of the top 10 world leaders.
- This one is linked to the taxi drivers. We have the highest qualified pool of taxi drivers, mostly ex PMETs, many with post graduate degrees and management experience and war stories to tell. How to beat?
- We have the most mayors per sq km in the world. 4 in 770 sq km.
- A few million people from the 3rd World and 1st World countries have been made very rich by the PAP govt for the right to work in this island paradise.
Ok, I think the above is suffice. I could go on and on. The
achievements are endless and it could fill the whole library if I were to list
them all out. Now who dares to complain that the new PAP did not achieve
anything, did not do anything good for the people. The motherhood statement,
they are taking care of the people from cradle to grave, and they make sure the
people will have money in their CPF for the rest of their lives and still got
balance to pass over to their children and grandchildren. This one no bluff
one.
Say thank you please, and be grateful. Count your blessings.
And if you happen to be one of the abject poor, you will still be the richest
poor in the world and would live a very good life. How much do you need? You
want to eat in the hawker stall, food court or restaurant, just name it. No
need to be shy about it.
They deserve another pay hike for a job well done. Worth
every cent paid. Anyone wants to disagree with my findings? Anyone wants to
challenge my conclusions?
Alvin Tan – I like him
Anyone
remember this name? Oh if you don’t, let me give you a clue. He was a foreigner
given a scholarship to study free and provided with accommodation and
allowances to make him feel comfortable in Singapore, without having to work
but to study in this very expensive city. Ok, another clue, he is famously
known as the sex blogger. He did law and was expelled from law school, not sure
if he completed the law degree. Now you remember who is this Alvin Tan? He is a
Malaysian now living in exiled in the US for his insensitive jokes
during Hari Raya in Malaysia.
Now
why did I say I like him? You see, he made a lot of people here looked very
stupid and foolish. And because of him, maybe more Singapore children will now have a
chance to study in our world best universities, and maybe even get a
scholarship like Alvin Tan to spare their parents from selling their homes. How
so?
Read
Alvin’s latest post in the TRE, ‘Sex blogger Alvin Tan: I was offered SPR in
2007’. See how good they thought of him
as someone with great talent and to be a Singaporean to contribute or to help
make Singapore a better place for daft
Sinkies.
In brief he said a few things that would make some people feel very angry and malu, with red faces. And I quote,
‘Alvin slammed the cramped quarters that Singaporeans called housing, saying their flats were “smaller than even the upstairs area of your terrace house…. about how tough it was to own a car and how Singaporeans had to depend on “riding trains that break down” despite the fares being pricey… He said many became “bitter, cynical individuals early on in life” due to the compulsory national service they attended in Pulau Tekong and spent their working lives “competing fruitlessly” with foreigners who stole their jobs.
Noting that monthly commitments were sky-high, he said many simply resigned themselves to their corporate lives and paid chunks of their salaries into a “compulsory saving scam” called CPF that he likened to a Ponzi scheme.’
And if the above did not rile anyone from his comfort zone, read this, ‘I was offered Singaporean Permanent Residence (status) in 2007. I tossed the letter into the rubbish bin. I had no intention of becoming a cog in the wheel to fund the CPF, Temasek Holdings, and your ministers’ million-dollar salaries.’
Now you understand why I like Alvin Tan? He made those silly people who thought throwing money at people like him would make them grateful and would want to be cog to pay their fat salaries. Any one of these intelligent young men and women would easily see through the whole farce and would take them for a ride.
Would those silly buggers realize how stupid they were and stop wasting public money on these foreigners and, instead use the money to repay the citizens for paying taxes and helping to build this country and to pay their fat salaries? Hopefully they would not be so thick and stubborn and continue to throw our taxpayers money to these ungrateful foreigners that are too smart for them to handle.
Thank you Alvin Tan, for giving them a piece of your mind on their stupidity. Singaporean parents would be grateful to you and maybe lesser Singaporean children would have to become financial burdens to their parents who have to pay for their tertiary education in Singapore or forced to pay even more for their overseas education.
Alvin Tan is an angel in disguise.

China and US initiatives in the world stage
The creation of AIIB is fresh on everyone’s mind as a major initiative from China, often accused of not doing its part and responsibility to play a bigger role in the world stage. And when it is doing exactly what the Americans demanded it to do, the Americans throw all kinds of brass tacks on its path and put up a Berlin Wall to prevent American allies from joining. Many Asian countries would benefit greatly from this initiative to obtain cheap loans for their nation’s infrastructure developments.
Another major Chinese initiative is the two prong Silk Road to promote trade in Asia, one overland and one through the oceans. The infrastructure development that goes with it and the facilitation of trades can only be good for Asia and the world.
The other Chinese initiatives like liberalizing the renminbi as an alternative world currency against the highly dangerous greenbacks with the Americans printing them like toilet papers to exchange for goods and services from the hardworking people across the world. And China is also offering an alternative lesser manipulation and HFT/computer free stock broking system to the world against the highly manipulated and flawed western system originating from New York and London.
These are not counting the cheaply prized products that China is selling to the world to benefit the whole world without having to pay a hand or leg for consumer products.
In the meantime what are the Americans doing? What are the American initiatives? Signing defence pacts, renewing defence agreements, pivot to Asia to rebalance is military and political dominance. Even the Trans Pacific Pact, supposedly a trade pact, is described by the new Defence Secretary as an aircraft carrier.
In his first visit to Asia, Ashton Carter is bragging about how powerful is the American military forces and where the Americans are spending their monies, and let me quote an AGENCIES’s report today, ‘But Mr Carter appeared to relish it, claiming that “passing the TPP is as important to me as another aircraft carrier”….the Obama Administration is opening a new phase of its strategic “rebalance “ towards Asia and the Pacific by investing in high end weapons such as a new long range stealth bomber, long range anti ship cruise missile, rapid runway repair and refreshing its defence alliance with Japan….”the rebalance is working”, citing the deployment to Asia of advanced weapons systems such as Virginia class fast attack submarines, missile defences and F22 fighters and rotations of US Marines form Okinawa, Japan, to the Japanese mainland, Guam and Australia.’
Now, who is promoting trade and economic growth and who is preparing for war and warmongering? According to Washington and the western media, China is the aggressive country with belligerent intent and the Americans and their allies are the peaceful ones, the peace loving ones. One is sending out a whole list of economic and trade development initiatives and the other is preparing for war, sending out all its military weapons and forces and beefing up on military alliances.
What should you believe? Got to thank the AGENCIES’s reports for showing the hypocrisy and cynicism of the American ‘peaceful’ intent in Asia in its pivot and rebalancing in Asia.
PS: Why is the TPP an aircraft carrier? And the Americans are accusing the China of causing an arms race and raising tension in Asia.
Edz Ello – A deeper understanding of the case
There are 2 million foreigners here, mostly working and enjoying jobs and income they can never think of if they were to remain in their home countries. Aren’t they grateful? They live in the comfort and security of a clean and green cosmopolitan city with all the trappings of modern day comfort instead of the villages and the slums they were used to at home, except for those from the developed western countries. The hospitality extended to them, the kindness and generosity shown to them by the Singaporeans and govt are what we called in the uniform services, ‘beyond the call of duty’. Many will go home very rich, feeding their families very well and providing a better life simply because of their employment in the city state.
Have the Singaporeans been unkind to the foreigners? And if you hear the complaints of PMETs being sacked and discriminated by foreigners into losing their jobs and ended up as taxi drivers and security guards, nevermind if some idiots think it is untrue, a misunderstanding, some foreigners even ganged up to bully the locals, it is the foreigners that are being unkind to the daft Sinkies in the home country of the Sinkies. Can you beat that?
Now this is what this Ello wrote in his facebook., ‘, ‘In Jan 2, Ello allegedly called Singaporeans “loosers” and vowed to “evict” them from their country. He prayed that “disastors” would strike Singapore and “more Singaporeans will die” and he would celebrate. The post ended with “Pinoy better and stronger than Stinkaporeans”. He also allegedly commented in another post that evening that he would “kick out all Singaporeans” and this country will be a new “Filipino state”.’
Can you detect the hatred, the unhappiness, the anger, the contempt against his host, the Singaporeans and country that offered him very good job and very good pay? How widespread is this anti Singaporean disease among the foreigners? What have the Singaporeans done to deserve this kind of hate speech? The govt and ministers and MPs are bending backwards, going about everywhere using public fund to organize functions to feast the foreigners, telling the daft Sinkies to embrace them while many Sinkies lost their jobs to them, their parents were made redundant by them, some being raped or molested by these foreigners, some were beaten up for their pleasure.
What is going on? How serious are the foreigners against the Singaporeans? Singaporean xenophobic or foreigners anti Singaporeans? Singaporeans do not deserve to be hated by these foreigners. If the anti Singaporean feeling is so widespread, should the govt need a rethink on how they treat the foreigners, to limit the number of foreigners here, that in spite of being so kind and generous to them, they hate us more? Or is it because some fools have been praising these ungrateful foreigners sky high that the foreigners really believe that they are here to help the daft Sinkies and daft Sinkies should be grateful to them instead, and it is their right to be contemptuous to the daft Sinkies? And since the Sinkies are so daft, they should take over the country, chase out the daft and useless Sinkies?
Why is the govt throwing away billions to these foreigners, giving them good jobs and good pay, even scholarships aplenty and depriving the children of citizens of them, only for them to hate the Singaporeans? The thinking and feeling of this Ello is not an isolated case. Check out Anton Casey and all the Sinkie bashers.
Should Singaporeans continue to be nice to the foreigners, hold parties for them, integrate with them, embrace them and make them feel at home here?
What do you think? I recommend the ministries do a serious study on this very serious matter of having so many unhappy and ungrateful foreigners here. But if daft Sinkies are to be grateful to them, then there is no need for any study. Just tell the daft Sinkies to open their legs to the foreigners that are here.
PS: Rotten Papayas (a blogger in TRE) asked how about the Pinoy with the ‘moniker “Topher Yakuza” who threatened to kill all Singaporeans who go to the Philippines. He said, “fxxk you all Singaporeans, go to philippines and I will kill u all.” He went on to label Singaporeans as faggots’.
Cabinet changes – Read the tea leaves
Masagos Zulkifli is promoted to full minister in the PMO. There is no doubt that this is a promotion. Then there were a few changes with Lui Tuck Yew taking up a second appointment as Second Minister for Defence. This must be a promotion I supposed, for a job well done as Transport Minister. The perceived future PM Chan Chun Sing is moving to NTUC as Minister without Portfolio in the PMO. Not sure what does this mean, a promotion, demotion or lateral transfer. His Social and Family ministry is to be taken over by the Chuan Jin, the Minister of Manpower. Is Chuan Jin being given a lighter job after sweating it out in the hot MOM for 3 years, presumably MSF is more social and about family matters, about carrying and kissing babies. What is surprising is for Lim Swee Say to move to MOM, a full ministry after being Minister without Portfolio and doing very well there. He has made many indications to step down and this appointment does not seem like he is stepping down.
Political observers and analysts would be scratching their heads trying to make meanings out of this shift when election is just around the corner. Do the changes indicate anything about the GE? The promotion of Masagos is clearly perceived as pandering for the Malay votes. What is the story of giving Lui Tuck Yew the Second Minister appointment? Grooming him for bigger responsibilities because he did a damn good job in transport?
What about Chan Chun Sing’s move to NTUC, a plan to expose him to the ground to get to know the biggest workers movement to prepare him for the PM’s post? The puzzling move is for Chuan Jin to take over the MSF, a relatively light weight ministry unless this is the seat for the grooming of future PMs like Chun Sing, following the path of Chun Sing as the next in line. Just watch if Chuan Jin would subsequently take over the NTUC position as the career development path of a future PM to be.
Anyone could see a bigger and clearer picture of what this is all about? One thing for sure, salary increases and higher cost of govt. It is so shiok to promote more ministers to make them happy using OPM. How many ministers are in the PMO?

China MUST not go down the path of self destruction
When I read about China offering Shanghai and Hongkong as the alternative international stock exchanges to the world without HFT/computer trading and massive manipulation, I was pleased that China has found a way from the decadent and corrupt exchanges of the western model. The western model of stock exchanges and financial systems are not sustainable, operating under rules and systems that are worst than the casinos, fraudulent, unfair and designed to cheat the innocent masses.
I was shock to read in the local media that China is going to allow the banks to buy over security brokerages and licenced to trade in the exchanges. And they know what this means, the strong will get stronger and the weak gets weaker. The banks, with their financial muscles, will edge out every other player and expedite the early demise of the stock exchange industry. If China cannot see what would happen to their thriving stock markets that are relatively free from HFT and massive speculations by the big funds, they should look at the state of health of the Singapore stock market. It is dying, in a state of denial, and no one knows how to save it but pretending that it is doing fine, very fine.
China must not allow the banks to buy over the brokerages to indulge in unfair trading in the stock market. China must resist this move and not be pressurised to conform to a fraudulent stock market/financial system designed by the West. Their stock markets are healthy and doing well. Do not be deceived by the snake oil sellers and take the slippery path to self destruction. The banks must be kept out of the stock market, to do banking and not speculations and trading equities, writing derivatives and selling derivatives based on equities.
China beware, and know what you are in for. Do not be misled by the snake oil sellers and the blind. Do not fall into a trap and commit the same mistakes as Singapore and unable to unwind without killing the stock market. Sit tight and watch how the western modelled stock exchanges collapse in due course, in the next few years. Do not be conned to join the bandwagon of destruction!
Just look at what is happening at the Hong Kong Exchange and what is happening to the Singapore Exchange over the last few days or months. You want Hong Kong to be in the same deplorable and pathetic state of dying and fading into oblivion?
Orang Melayu – Old ties that bind
The one week of state funeral was best remembered by the passing of a political giant of an era and the outpouring of sadness by people at home and those abroad. Many foreign leaders were here on their personal capacity or representing their respective govts to pay their last respect to the man lying in state. While everyone was immersed in the solemn and somber mood of the moment, a sense of warmth permeated the air in an unusual way that many would have missed, gone unnoticed and forgotten.
The spirit and graciousness of the Orang Melayu of the region was at its best. The Sultan of Brunei and several members of his family were here, including many govt officials not reported, to show their respect to a man whose relationship with the palace were built over two generations as family friends. The bond was strong and lasting and valued by both families and people.
From the south, the Sukarnos, the Suhartos and the Yudhoyonos were all here. And so were the Jokowis and many present and past govt officials. They remembered the deeds of the man that was in the midst of interstate rivalry and friendship. They remembered him dearly and fondly as a good friend.
More remarkable were the leaders and royalties from the north. The love hate relationship between Malaysia and Singapore, between LKY and their leaders, the quarrels and bickering and at times personal acrimonies were set aside. With the passing of the man, the hatchet was buried, but more. The warmth relationship cultivated over the decades surfaced. At the end of the day, they were all like kampong boys growing up together, playing together and fighting over everything. But they were still childhood friends of the same kampong.
The Agung was here and so were the royalties. And the newly crowned Sultan of Johore was here, one day after his coronation, putting aside his busy schedule to show his respect to the man with many ups and downs in the relationship between the two states. Najib was here and so were Daim and many old friends and political foes.
The one that was dearly missed was Mahathir. The Malaysians expected him to come, no matter how bitter he fought with LKY, it was the man that he knew and worked with, like him or not was a separate matter. Mahathir missed the chance to show the world how big a man he could be. Abdul Samad, a very senior Malaysian politician of the same vintage was seen on Malaysian news chastising Mahathir for his lack of graciousness. He even reprimanded him for his slowness in coming out with his eulogy for LKY. There are times when personal rivalry should give way, take a back seat, to allow the warmth of human relationship to triumph.
The Orang Melayu of the region were extremely gracious and warmth and added a great sense of dignity to the occasion, to bid farewell to a kampong boy they knew a life time. Without the politicking and agitating, the Orang Melayu could make great friends that would last a life time.
The passing of the man they called friend and at times loved to hate marked a new chapter in the relationship of the people in the region. Hopefully the new leaders and future leaders could pick up a few goodness in being friends and political foes and graciousness while locked in political differences and rivalry. There is a man behind all the politicking, and there is friendship to be made and cherished, in the spirit of the Orang Melayu.
PS: There were signs of regret in Mahathir for the things he did to the man and he came close to saying sorry for the riots when Singapore was in Malaysia. There was an admission of guilt for the incident, a kind of telling the man, ok we did it. Let bygones be bygones. He must have deemed it necessary to set the record straight and close the chapter of finger pointing on who caused the riots.
CPF – From compulsory savings to compulsory taxation
It was meant to be compulsory savings for retirement. Now it is more like compulsory taxation by the govt. The latest clause that demands all Singaporeans who are overseas to pay for Medishield Life is as good as that. The govt does not care or bother you need the Medishield Life coverage as you may be away for 20 or 30 years or more, but you are legally required to pay up. The govt does to care if you are paying for another medical insurance in your domicile country and no need for the Medishield Life, it still wants you to pay, all because you are a Singapore citizen. If this is not compulsory taxation, what is? It even overides double taxations. At least double taxation could mean exempted from one country or paying one side. This one is so aloof, it doesn’t care what you are paying and how much you are paying or that you are paying for a better medical coverage, you pay up because you are a Singapore citizen. You are so blessed!
Who do you think benefits most from your compulsory saving/taxation? Obvious right? The first and biggest beneficiary from your compulsory saving/taxation must be the HDB. Here everyone would have to cough up at least $500k in his life time or more than a million to pay for ‘affordable’ public housing. Now you would have to pay a life time for Medishield and again who is the beneficiary? And whatever money left would be stucked in the two minimum sum schemes, to benefit who in the form of cheap loans? And the loans would only be repaid when you die or if you are alive, in small tokens. It means that you are extending a loan with your life savings to the govt until you die. And if you are stupid enough to will it to the CPF account of your loved ones, the loans could be extended in perpetuity. To benefit who?
Your compulsory savings are for whose benefits? Do the daft Sinkies know what is happening to their CPF savings? All their CPF savings kena tangkap for life! Does the PAP really believe that it do anything it wants with the people’s life savings and can get away with it without any serious repercussion in the GE, that the people do not mind, do not care and submissively accepted this fait accompli?
The Last Dance of a Racist Racialist Coward
Alimama vs Sinaman
By MIKOspace
A couple of weeks ago, it must have taken some daringness
for Dr M to travel to Singapore to see and confirm for himself that MM Lee Kuan
Yew has actually passed away and is really, really dead. Being a medical doctor,
trained no less by Singapore’s best Medical School, he was quite convinced
himself that LKY has indeed passed away. Sadly, Dr M sighed with great relief before
his narcissistic personality overwhelmed him and he decided to insult the
better man by calling LKY “kiasu” during their years of dealings and
negotiations.
It was just amazing! Finally, Alimama could muster the
courage to insult Sinaman in his face as the latter was laid to peaceful rest
by his beloved Singaporeans. Alimama had
to be certain that Sinaman would not suddenly jump up to sue him, Dr M, for
defamation or slander. But just to be on
the safe side, the coward Alimama only uttered his insults after Sinaman had
been cremated. And then, he only did so
in the safe Malaysian town of Cyberjaya, nearly 300km from Sinaman’s
Singapore. Serious outstanding courage
indeed, Dr M.
As Alimama boarded his plane to return home, he secretly
hoped that his Malaysian people, whom he ruled as their 4th Prime
Minister from 1981-2003, would shower him with the same love and fame as Sinaman
had received from Singaporeans in his life as in death. It’s really a shame, Dr M, that the people you had so despised, deceived
and divided by political and social racism over the years have left you so useless,
empty and lonely. Dr M had repeatedly scolded, coaxed and prodded
Malaysian Malays. They saw the truth in your eyes after you left office and
sniped at all your successors from Tun Abdullah Badawi to the present Prime
Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak from the lofty Petronas Twin-Towers.
MM LKY said: “Dr M undermines his
successors”. MM Lee sees his
role after stepping down as Prime Minister to be an advisor to the next generation
of leaders. Taking up his new role seriously, he deferred to his successors, PM
Goh CT and PM Lee HL, in all protocols, matters and manners.
It was already 1981 when Dr M became Malaysia’s Prime
Minister, and where he remained the longest serving for 22 years. It is therefore disingenuous when he said
that MM LKY was still "coloured with bitterness" over Singapore's
expulsion from Malaysia in 1965, some 17 years earlier. By 1975, Singapore had
transformed into a thriving global metropolis when compared with still
struggling 3rd world Malaysia, who was then obsessed with implementing
her racist pro-bumiputra social and economic policies. MM LKY and Singapore have absolutely no regrets,
let alone lingering bitterness, over separation from Malaysia, who continues to
languish in the errors of her policies and drowning in the cesspits of
prevalent corruptions that they spawned.
To Dr M, the Malay race is inherently “backward”
genetically. In his controversial 1970
book “The Malay Dilemma”, he attributed the Malay’s “natural racial
inferiority” to poor eugenics from their traditional habit of marrying first
cousins which, according to him as a trained medical doctor, resulted in gene
regression and resulted in the relatively greater social progress by the better
intelligent Chinese. Of course, Mahathir
himself is not pure Malay racially but hailed from an Indian-Muslim (ie Alimama)
ancestry that thereby enable him to claim and prospered from the privileged
bumiputra status. He therefore sees
himself, a non-Malay, as the “Champion for the Malays”, and their political support
of him for over 20 years further reinforced his belief in his “inferior” race
supporters.
Malaysia’s problems are therefore mostly self-created and
based on the flawed “inferior race theory”, and which was further expounded in the
discredited thesis of Alimama himself. The
achievements of Singapore Malays confirm the lies and baselessness of the “inferior
race theory” and affirm Singapore’s multiracial multicultural policies “regardless
of race, language or religion” as the cornerstone of our development success.
In fact, Dr M’s duplicity was clearly exposed to MM LKY
and Singapore civil servants in the 2001-2002 Water Talks regarding the prices
of raw water supply from Malaysia in the Water Agreements scheduled to expire in
2011 and 2061 respectively. The raw
water price was 3 M’sian sen per 1,000 gallon under the Agreements.
It was actually agreed between Dr M and MM LKY that the indicative
raw water price would be 45 sen in return for agreement of water supply beyond
the 2011 and 2061 expiry dates of the Agreements. The price was however shifted
by Dr M repeatedly; first to 60 sen, to be backdated to 1986 and 1987
respectively, and also RM3 (3 Ringgits!) from 2007 to 2011; and from 2011 to
adjust by inflation. In September 2002,
Dr M’s staff returned to ask for RM6.25 per 1000 gallon, a jump of 200-fold from
RM3!
In July 2002, Singapore announced the success of our
Newater Project, and informed Malaysia that the Water Agreement expiring 2011
would not be renewed. In December 2002,
both country suspended discussions on the other Water Agreement expiring 2061.
We are now self-sufficient in portable water supply.
Singaporeans can now understand why MM LKY had almost no
direct dealings with Dr M from 2003 onwards.
We already know only too well that MM LKY does not suffer fools and
idiots easily. However, what MM LKY
cannot tolerate is a blatantly dishonest, perfidious and untrustworthy person who
cannot, will not and choose not to negotiate in good faith and not to adhere to
his word.
Singaporeans, especially the younger ones, can now better
understand why Dr M was cautiously nervous, even apprehensive, when he arrived
in Singapore 2 weeks ago. Understandably, Alimama clearly dread facing the live
Sinaman in any straight and honest shootouts!
As his plane was taking off from Singapore Changi Airport,
Alimama looked back as if just to ascertain that neither Sinaman nor his
pervasive indomitable air force was trailing behind. Quite fortunately, no. Running
won't get you far, Dr M. You just cannot shake off the unmistakable and
indisputable legacies of MM LKY in Singapore and the world. The spectre of
Sinaman as the better and more honourable man will continue to haunt you, Alimama,
forever. Run, if you must; know that hiding
is impossible, and escape is not an option, man.
Soon, everyone will die naturally.
With Sinaman now in the heavens; where do you think you could hide in
eternity from him forever, Dr M? Actually,
there is that other place …..

Why George Gascon, photographer of LKY, going home?
It was reported that the Gascon, personal photographer of LKY from the ST, had returned to the Philippines to be a farmer despite LKY persuading him to stay on as a citizen. Why would a person reject the good offer from LKY to stay in this first world city?
Let’s do the number game and see why this guy preferred to go back and be a farmer, owning his own farm and probably a big land and house to his name. If he stayed, he would likely be retired by 60. Assuming both he and his wife were professionals, they would likely to own a 4 or 5 rm HDB flats and each would still have about $100k to $200k in their CPF accounts after 20 years here. On retirement, both would receive maybe $1000 each monthly to live forever and the flat fully paid. They would survive but no frills, no cars.
By choosing to return to the Philippines, they would cash out everything. The flat could fetch between $400k to $600k. And the CPF would have to return them maybe $300k in total. Their net cash would be roughly S$1m or 32.5 million pesos. A flat in the Philippines costs about 1/10 the price in Singapore. He could get a very big house in the rural area for $100k and maybe a big farm for another $100k. He could buy a decent car for $30k. And he would be left with $650k cash or est 20m pesos in his bank savings, not stuck in a CPF kind of savings that he cannot touch.
With the cost of living that is roughly 1/10 of Singapore’s, he would be a very rich man! And he could send his children to the best schools. And if they need a good job, send them to Singapore to go through the same cycle and to return to the Philippines later as rich men one more time.
Why would he want to retire in Singapore with no cash except those stuck in the CPF, untouchable except for the monthly stipends and waiting to pay a medical bill that he cannot afford to, no cars and only a HDB flat? He is now a very rich farmer and very comfortable with his savings.
Gascon is definitely no daft Sinkie.
PS. I am assuming that he had a flat to sell with big profits. Many Pinoys and those from neigbouring countries would be doing the same when they retired. Sell everything and go home very rich.
Lee Wei Ling: Lesson from LKY
“Let’s not miss the chance to learn the lessons Papa’s death taught us about ourselves,” Lee Wei Ling said in her eulogy to her father.
Calling Westerners “the white man”, she said, “Never be impressed by the white man who thinks he is superior to you. We are no less and probably more capable than he is. If Papa and his Old Guard colleagues did not believe that, they would not have fought for independence and built up this country.”
Lee Wei Ling should say that to her brother and in Parliament to help the super talents have some confidence in themselves and in Singaporeans, and not be worshipping foreigners like God. See the mad scramble to hunt for foreign talents whenever a CEO position is left empty? Take a guess who will be the next CEO of SGX. No prize for the correct answer. I think the decision has probably been made and it would not be a daft Sinkie.
The generation of founding fathers of modern Singapore was made up of men and women of confidence, who believed in themselves and in Singaporeans, that we could build this country into a better place for Singaporeans. And they were not proud men and women that were blinded by their pride not to accept foreign help. Foreign help would be welcomed when a situation called for it, not calling for foreign help in every situation. Singapore was practically built with the hands of the founding fathers who believed in themselves and in Singaporeans. Foreigners were welcomed to teach and train us at times when we did not have the expertise, not to take over and rule us. We learn to walk and to run on our own, not forever holding on to a foreign crutch. Talented foreigners should be welcomed to compliment us, not to supplant us and replace us.
Look at the present bunch and ask yourself if they believe in themselves and in Singaporeans? Look at how they tremble in the presence of foreigners, how they go gaga in the presence of foreigners, how they faint when a position is vacant and how they scramble to find a foreigner to fill it up quickly. Look at how silly they look in the presence of foreigners who could con them into giving them millions and billions to do whatever they want.
Lee Wei Ling must instruct them to read her papa’s biography, make it compulsory reading, and to learn from him about believing in themselves, don’t shrink or shrivel in front of foreigners, and like Heng Swee Kiat said, to look at the foreigners in their eyes, wear high heels if needed, classical LKY teaching. Actually it is about confidence and not how tall you are. Did they learn anything from him? Wei Ling, better be quick before they bring in another foreigner to sit at SGX.

TAFEP – No job discrimination against PMETs, only misunderstanding
In the Today paper today there is an article ‘Allegations of bias against S’poreans top list of workers complaints’. But read the content of the article you will find the title misleading. All or most of the complaints about job discrimination against Singaporean PMETs are just alleged, not true. It is all a misunderstanding. The foreigners were employed and promoted because they were better and more suitable than the Singaporean PMETs according to Roslyn Ten, the general manager of TAFEP. ‘..many stem from misunderstanding and not from genuine bias’, and she urged the employers to explain to job seekers why they were not hired and not promoted.
This is in line with the findings by NTUC that confirmed Singaporeans really lacked the skills sets that the foreigners have. Singaporean PMETs should not complain anymore and should make serious efforts to learn from the PRC Chinese, India Indians, the Pinoys, Myanmese and all the foreigners why they have all the qualifications and skills sets that Singaporeans did not have.
Now that the truth is out, PMETs, please do not anyhow complain and spread lies. NTUC and TAFEP have confirmed you are NG. And please do not mislead Chuan Jin and MOM and make them run around like fools, even setting up Jobs Bank and FCF that are totally unnecessary and a waste of time and resources. Ok Chuan Jin, you can close down these two set ups. They are irrelevant. You have been misled.
Just to double confirm what this Roslyn said, and I quote the Today paper, ‘Reiterating that many unfair employment practices were largely due to miscommunication, she said clear cut cases of discrimination against Singaporeans are rare. “It’s really more of …perception,”’ What more can you say? No more arguments.
OK case close. No discrimination and please do not raise the issue of discrimination anymore. Two powerful pro Singaporean agencies and Singaporeans, one Patrick Tay, an Asst Secretary General of NTUC/Director of PME Unit and another, Roslyn Ten, a general manager of TAFEP said so. These are authoritative statements of truth, not misunderstanding or opinions.
Listen all PMETs, you deserved to be taxi drivers and security guards and stop complaining. As to our education system, how they failed to produce Singaporeans without the right skills sets is puzzling but not my problem. I am not paid millions to give you the answer. Thank you very much.
Singaporean PMETs are so lucky that the truth is out and now they know the real reason why foreigners are employed and promoted and preferred by employers. It is your fault. No more lame excuses.
PS. TAFEP stands for Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices. And when TAFEP said it is fair it must be fair. And when NTUC said you did not have the skills sets, you do not have the skills sets. Period.
Hark ye hear the angel sings…
A new king born today, and in a corner across the world, another Lee Kuan Yew is born. His full name shall be Jeyaprakash Lee Kuan Yew, son of a bus driver.
Tamil Nadu is blessed with a new savior. Soon the three wise men from the East will visit him and shower him with gold and incense and kneel in front of him to pray for hope to his people.
And in the same town, a huge statue will be built in his name. Hope they will get the face of the picture right this time and not that of Tony. Someone please send them the right picture before it is too late.
PS. As an afterthought, the Singapore govt should copyright his name world wide to prevent it from being misused or abused. What do you think?
From a country to a hotel – LKY’s legacy?
Refreshing the memories and speeches of LKY on the TV channels for one week, the central theme of LKY’s younger days was all about building a Singapore for Singaporeans. Today it is very clear that Singapore is more or less a hotel for all. Foreigners are unloaded like rubbish into the island as the celebrated foreign talents, qualifications and integrity unquestioned, to take over many good jobs in the island.
Some even said this island belonged to everyone, all and sundry of the world. Everyone is welcomed except the daft Sinkies who are told to get lost if they did not like it. Daft Sinkies are good at two things, be security guards and drive taxis. The more glorified security guards are the NS boys, but minus the money in everything, and getting pittance for their contributions to the hotel. Oops, to the NSmen they are serving their country, a country you know.
And when they have completed serving their country, they would have to compete with foreigners with no duties and obligations to serve a country that they only know as a hotel, for their benefits. Foreigners will come and go, making their piles, while the daft Sinkies will stay to pay the taxes and dues to keep the hotel in working condition and to maintain peace and order for the foreigners.
Now the big question. Is this what LKY wanted? Is this a legacy of LKY? Did he change his vision for Singapore, from a country to a hotel, from a country for Singaporean to a hotel for the rest of the world? Can anyone enlighten me on this legacy? Or it is not LKY’s legacy? He was around when the transition and transformation took place, from a country to a hotel.
And I remember him saying, ‘This is my country, this is my people’.
Which is which?
Singapore and Democracy: A Love-Hate Partnership?
Perspectives
on Donald
Low’s Rebuttal of Calvin Cheng
by MIKOspace
Democracy is a slippery political
concept. Many definitions abound, none particularly helpful in furthering our
understanding. Many advocates of democracy attempt to define democracy in real
life; dressing it up with civil liberties, popular elections, free press, free
speech, right to bear arms … etc. It
seems natural that Donald and Calvin, together with many others, have
difficulty grasping the nature of democracy in Singapore.
Donald
Low’s Rebuttal @ TREmeritus here.
First,
Calvin is right: for Lee Kuan Yew (LKY), there is no “trade-offs”
between freedom, development and democracy. Donald’s rebuttal misunderstood his
own 1986 quote of LKY: “What are our priorities?
First, the welfare, the survival of the people. Then, democratic norms and
processes which from time to time we have to suspend.” LKY was not
referring to trade-offs between democracy and development; for him, it is about
prioritization or program sequencing of his government action agenda. For LKY, Democracy
and democratic processes must and should facilitate development or face irrelevance,
even oblivion.
Always mindful of the electorate as his
primary and only political accountability, LKY chose to “trade-up” the survival
and welfare of the people who elected him and his PAP government repeatedly in
every general election. He did not “trade-away” democratic norms and procedures;
otherwise the PAP would not have held regular general elections as often and
whenever constitutionally mandated to do so, unless LKY is also a strong
believer in the value of democratic accountability.
Second, Donald’s argument
that the reason “… many countries
aren’t able to provide (these) public goods is not because they are
democracies, but because they lack strong, competent and effective states” is a
corporatist argument, not a democratic one.
Many have argued with some merits that corporatism – advocating a strong
central state - is incompatible with democracy.
Donald failed in fact to recognize
the implications of his own argument; that the co-existence of democracy and a strong
state could very well be mutually exclusive and fundamentally impossible.
Rather, Donald preferred to explain
that “democratically elected governments may not be able to deliver high
quality public goods for a variety of reasons” which he attributed again to the
absence of strong state control and regulatory mechanisms, instead of the
obvious limitation of democracy in the social production of the greatest good
for the largest number.
The truth is that democracy does not
and has never promise the delivery of development and high quality public goods. History is on the side of the benevolent
dictator, the paternalistic autocrat, the corporatist, but not the democrat.
Third, in using the
Francis Fukuyama’s model describing the problem of having all three
institutions - a strong state, rule of law, and democratic accountability -
that comprise Francis’ political development, Donald inadvertently also
subscribed into its flawed logic and argument.
Fukuyama is wrong to consider the 3
institutions capable of independent existence. They are not. A strong state is
not sustainable without popular voluntary consent (meaning democratic
accountability through general elections) and the rule of law. The rule of law is a necessary organ to the
effective function of government who enact the laws to do so. Repressive and unjust laws will fuel civil
disobedience to bring about their changes, and the downfall of despotic and intolerable
governments. To the corporatist, a
strong state enjoys primacy and pre-eminence (eg. Singapore); and a democrat
objects ideologically to a strong state (eg. in USA). For both, the rule of law is just a flexible
political tool to regulate and produce the desirable level of popular voluntary
consent.
Fourth, quite
contrary to Donald’s thesis, no evidence from history supports “a natural link
between economic development and the rise of democratic demands”. Even Donald admitted that democracy and
economic development are not pre-requisite of one another.
Fifth, Donald’s
prescription of “greater democratic accountability” for Singapore from here
forward in the post-LKY era is inconsistent with his emphasis on state-building
and on enhancing state capacity since a strong state is incompatible with
stronger democracy.
Six, Donald had a
fatally wrong understanding of democracy and democratic elections when he advocated
“a more diverse and representative government” instead of one returned by
repeated fair and clean general elections in accordance with standard
democratic procedures. There
is no one best form or style of democracy.
Perhaps, Donald’s call for more
Opposition MPs points in fact to the lackluster performance and failure of
these MPs to articulate their constituents’ interests … The effectiveness of Opposition MPs does not
lie in their numbers but in the logic, presentation and vigorousness of their
alternative solutions proffered as “better” than the government. This
is not a failure of democracy in Singapore, just the failure of
leadership and imagination on the part of the Opposition.
The problem in their understanding
of democracy and government in people like Calvin and Donald lies in their belief in an over-rated
conception of democracy. Democracy exists in so many forms and styles
to suit its respective contextual domains.
At its root, democracy does not
promise the election of a “good” leader.
There are far too many supporting examples to this and needs no
elaboration here.
Democracy
provides a decision-making frame for making choices among who shall govern. Democracy is not a quality management standard
with a checklist of best practices and good conduct procedures.
Is a bad democracy
(which is inefficient and slacken) therefore better than a benevolent
dictatorship?
Singapore is better off managing
democracy as a governance tool in the manner that we did in the past, with regular
free and fair elections and in a political climate characterized by freedom
from fear, freedom from want, freedom of religious beliefs and the freedom of
choice. If these were what democracy
could facilitate, it would be great! If
not, democracy should get out of our way as we journey toward a better, more
prosperous, fairer and equal society of one Singapore and one nation.
