In his speech to the nation, Benigno Aquino III announced that he will increase the purchase of more weapons, including a patrol boat to defend the Spratley Islands. The Philippines will defend by force, in this case against China, and from his tones, will attack Chinese ships entering the area. China has to be careful of this rising military power and avoid sending its naval crafts as they will be attacked and probably sunk by the mighty Filipino Navy.
Aquino can talk loudly, while standing on the head of the Americans, waving the military treaty they have signed in the 1950s. While the Filipino patrol boats may be good only against fishing vessels, there lies, lurking in the dark and under the South China Sea, a mighty American fleet and submarines that are waiting for the Chinese ships. One can expect the Filipinos to fire at the Chinese fire to draw fire from the latter and the US jumping in to declare that China is bullying its smaller neighbours. And the White Knight will have all the reasons to flex its muscles and entrench their presence in the region.
The Americans may think that the Chinese will back off. They must not forget that China will not blink and will go to war when their territorial sovereignty is at risk, even taking on the mighty Americans. The emerging regional power or flotsam navy can continue shouting their lungs out and think that they have come off age. This dangerous pariah country is a risk to regional stability, thinking that it has the world’s biggest bully on its beck and call, and it can take on the Chinese. It is a frivolous and dangerous tribe.

If you look at the map, Spratlys logically belong to the Pinoys, Paracels to the PRC.
Unless the PRC have some ancient letter from a Spanish warlord saying the Chinese can do whatever they like with the Spratlys - just like how Jayakumar managed to claim the island closer to Malaysia, while the island further from Malaysia went to Malaysia.
If you look at the map you will find New Zealand and Australia belong to the Polynesians and not to Europeans.
The Chinese have drawn the maps long before the Spanish appeared in this part of the world. The Chinese have drawn their maps before the Filipinos invented written language.
A country that depends just about everything on its colossus Asian neighbour, now trying to play punk, just because that top lady diplomat from a far away nation, came by the region, and uttered some nonsensical statements, just to justify her trip.

So if the Chinese had drawn their maps to include AUS and NZ long long ago, they would belong to China too?
So if the Chinese had drawn their maps to include AUS and NZ long long before the aborigines and Maoris learned to write, they would belong to China too?
When does a larger land mass eg AUS ever belong to a small group of islands eg Polynesia?
you are making a simplistic statement to make an illogical argument. an english world map will have all the countries of the world. so does a chinese map. the english claim everything is theirs because it is in their map?
the chinese did not claim philippines to belong to china nor any other states. they only claim the islands known to them as nansha, xisha etc.
Heard in the news when they interviewed two Filipino intellectuals, one a professor. They were claiming that it was pride at stake and Aquino will talk tough.
In the first place when the Chinese were sailing the high seas and marking all the islands the Filipinos were still little tribes without knowing statehood nor do they know of the existence of the islands.
Now after making a claim, like Marcos and all his claims against Malaysia, cannot back out or else malu.
>an english world map will have all the countries of the world. so does a chinese map. the english claim everything is theirs because it is in their map?
>>so the chinese claim everything is theirs because it is in their map?
>the chinese did not claim philippines to belong to china nor any other states.
>>of course they did not/do not.
>they only claim the islands known to them as nansha, xisha etc.
>>on what basis? cannot be on a geographical basis. that is why i say, if there are historical documents that can be recognised by the world courts, let the chinese or the pinoys produce them? Otherwise why would the pinoys want to pick on a big country? for fun? otoh, the prcs can pick on anyone smaller they like, for fun.
when the spanish sailed to the new world, the english were clueless.
yet the english took over the place.
so being there first counts for nothing.
and then the english turned against the english.
now the place does not belong to the spanish or the british.
so being early doesn't count.
Hahaha....
the Americas did not belong to the Whites in the first place.
The Old Dame is living on invaded soil after her ancestors had annihilated the Original People of the Americas.
is it the case that the chinese have a very old map that was produced by one of their ancient admirals that showed paracels and spratlys but not philippines?
and on this basis the chinese claim the paracels and spratlys?
if so, i think the chinese do have a case haha.
Hi guys,
Historically the land belonged to the first occupants. That is why sons of the soil or bumiputra is a very impt concept.
This principle was distorted when the western powers came with their guns and took everything at gun point. Most of the land robbed from the natives had been returned except for north America, Australia, New Zealand and some islands.
The Chinese have maps to show that they were the first occupants of these islands in dispute. Their maps also showed the Philippines and even the Americas. Don't doubt their ancient maps as they were well documented. And they did not make spurious claims against other people's countries.
Call a spade a spade. China has come of age - this is nothing more than 争 霸 (domination by force) as mentioned by LKY. Don't talk about maps or history, if so even Singapore (Temasek) was reflected on admiral Cheng Ho's map! If this is the road China chose to take, there will be war. i fear for the chinese people who have make a home in nanyang, for we have lived peacefully with the "bumis" and now if china behaves like this and certain section of the chinese population turn their allegiance towards China at a time of highten conflict, this will bring grave consequence to the largely peaceful and loyal chinese descendants whom have called nanyang home and nationhood had been forged (Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, etc).
Anonymous, you are quite thick in your head. You kept insisting that australia in china's map, singapore in china's map, ppines in china map.
But you refused to think clearly and acknowledge that china did not claim any of them as part of china. China has not been unreasonable. It is the shit countries that are claiming chinese territories just like Japan claiming diaoyutai and the okinawa chains of islands which were china's.
China was a victim of western colonialism and is reclaiming her lost land. what chen pa you are talking about? chen pa are the Americans together with their lackey countries like ppines the vietnam.
the american is a clay buddha crosing the river how they going to protect the phillpines. the president pls do not cheat by the US and starting talking big rather to put effort in improving the life pf his people
there, u have it. No need to say anymore.

Actually, you are almost correct, though not intentionally. The English almost claimed every thing is theirs - Singapore, HK, the whole of the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, and many states in Africa. Heck, in fact the whole Commonwealth was theirs.
The Pinnoys are just being provocative because of the US backing. ( 狐 假 虎 威 ) After milleniums and centuries, they have decided to unilaterally renamed South China Sea as West Philippines Sea. Talk about biting off more than it can chew.
