The real leader is a dead man

This phrase came out in one of the comments in the blog. The first impression is that the reader was referring to China or North Korea where the big names were Mao Zedong and Kim Il Sung. These two names are so big in the two countries that Deng Xiaoping and Kim Jung Il and Kim Jung Un paled in comparison.  Though dead many years ago, they are still revered leaders to their people, legendary heroes, folk heroes.

In this case, the blogger was referring to Singapore. The real leader of Singapore is still Lee Kuan Yew.  Singapore just celebrated in a big way, with spontaneous ground up cries to revere Lee Kuan Yew. The initiatives came from the people, more than 100 celebrations, I heard, were organized by the people, ground up initiative, to show their love for their leader, like he is still alive.

To many of the supporters, the leader is still alive, never left, so no need to jump up from the grave.  To many Singaporeans there is and always will be one leader. No one could come near him as a leader, no one is seen as a leader in the same light. Singapore is Lee Kuan Yew and Lee Kuan Yew is Singapore.

In this sense, yes, the real leader of Singapore is Lee Kuan Yew. People still look up to him for leadership, for direction, for solutions and answers when things go wrong.  Lee Kuan Yew is still the leader of Singapore, like him, hate him, it doesn’t change anything.

If this is the case, when would Singapore have another real leader? Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

Not really lah. The man is dead but the living are just using him for their own objectives and interest. And that is because he still can be used mah. So if can use and is also effective, use lah, tio bo?

In fact I think why Chee Soon Juan can lose even a by election against a minority candidate is because the dead man (when he was alive) ever described Chee Soon Juan as a dud, and also a near psychopath (quoting the opinion of the dead man's doctors). So maybe even after the man is dead, the terrible labels still stick on Chee Soon Juan.

"What we are preventing is duds getting into Parliament and government. Any person of quality, we welcome him but we don't want duds. We don't want Chee Soon Juan, or J.B. Jeyaretnam."
- Lee Kuan Yew, 2011

"[Chee Soon Juan's] a liar, a cheat, and altogether an unscrupulous man. I could also add that I've had several of my own doctors who are familiar with such conduct...tell me that he is near-psychopath."
- Lee Kuan Yew, 2008

"[Chee Soon Juan] is finished, kaput."
- Lee Kuan Yew, 2001

Wa, like that how not to lose, and how not to use a dead man?

I think after seeing the record breaking crowds at the wake and funeral of the dead man, common sense tells his powerful survivor relatives that he still can be used, even though dead.

A real leader of a nation is like a heavenly dragon reincarnated to this earth to save humans from their sufferings, this is akin to the China Yellow emperor dynastic rule, this type of a rare leader only occurs 1 in a millions or 10 or 100 millions chances. To say that Spore will have another real leader like another LKY type..it will take another 50 to 150 years from now ..by then it will be the change of guards & the world will have change a lot..

The simple fact is Lee Kuan Yew was such a redoubtable political figure. He was (is?) a giant as far as statesmen and politicians go. He is certainly up there in the pantheon of history's most "notable" political characters of the good and the fucking horrible.

And he did leave an indelible mark on the history and the culture of Singapore; although many of his detractors would say he came, shot his jizz, and left a big wet cum-stain on the face of Singapore, and made the cuntry and its sheeple his BITCH.

After you've been fucked so good, it's hard to forget the experience. Damn hard to find a person to replace LKY because there are no HARD FUCKERS around. Only WANKERS.

Only the yellow races will revere a dead political leader like this.
That is why the yellow races will always be the working slaves.
Imagine.
Working for free for a dead leader.

This type of loyalty to dead leaders create a lot of unnecessary work for the living.
But doing unproductive work is what the Chinese slave race is good at.
You want an example?
- try the stupid Singaporean work culture of "double confirm"

For fuck's sake.
Double confirm means doing the same work twice.
It's fucking unproductive.

Absolutely. Look at the proof, it's unmistakable. Singaporeans will lionize and idolize Lee Kuan Yew until hell (which doesn't exist) freezes over.

To Singaporean, Lee Kuan Yew is GOD.

Go ahead, and double-confirm it for yourself. ;-)

This RB post worth a lot. Sg s products are lacking buyers for past 2 years. March it was a continued decline of 15.7%, and April it is 7.9%. Export declines for 2 years, the base for dividing will be smaller and smaller. Yet the base has yet to reach the bottom. It is still declining.
Some posts said the leaders are great because they work hard. Please dont have this kind of thinking unless people are eating sands for foods.

From export figures, citizens can measure the abilities of the leaders by the export numbers. These numbers are linked to jobs. Jobs are linked to income for children s nutrition and education, and old folks medical and foods.

In GE2015, citizens saw some black and white pictures on TV kept repeating similar to the moaning period of one old fellow. Then in recent March, there was big issuing of papers talking about the great old man.

In by election, voters heard the familiar sound that if CSJ won, investors wld flee Singapore.

There is no solid work done to remedy the present declining situation. There is effort to keep citizens attention on the words of some dead man. This is not wise for a country depending on jobs. A recent report of a retail chain had its profit declined by 95%. For a local listed company to have this kind of result is very worrying, yet citizens are directed to words of some old man. Do citizens have brain to think that what they need is coordinated efforts to get out of the very bad situation? The dead man might be right in the old circumstances, citizens are living in very different circumstances of that old fellow, now gone.
So citizens must face the fact. If leaders have no new visions, they must know what to do among themselves, unless there is GE, voters can decide. What do u think?

PAP MP joke
------------
Early one morning, at around 6am.
A PAP MP woke up feeling very horny.
So he woke up his wife in the hope of getting sexual relief.

"Sorry dear," said the wife.
"I have an appointment with my gynaecologist at 10 am this morning. I want to stay fresh for my examination."

As is typical of people like him, he does not give up on an opportunity to screw a Singaporean so easily ... even if the Singaporean happens to be his wife.
So 2 minutes later, he wakes up his wife again.

"But you don't also have a dentist appointment this morning do you?" he asks.

THE EMPEROR IS DEAD,

Walk into any big local bookstores, the dead man books are like tombstones you can't miss in a cemetery. His books, his words are like no others in Sin. The other dead man, claimed to have risen, has similar powerful words worshippers live by - every week, his words were quoted as living and present words. In fact, the words of these dead leaders( the religious idol assumed risen is as good as assuming the dead old man has risen too - since you don't need physical verification) have dual consequences if you care to observe. But people are so in awe with their leadership that they see only the good, in hope of perpetuating the good, and ignore the bad and deadly consequences.

This is a curse you want no part of. History not learned will be history blood bathed.

what you want them to do? Expect these leaders, who are not even on speaking terms but also at loggerheads with each other, to do a better job than Lee Hsien Loong?

After looking at Tan Jee Say, a Presidential material, getting only 22.3% votes in GE 2015, which high calibre Sinkie would want to join opposition to fight PAP?

Although Tan Jee Say may be of good calibre, but his party SFP strength is pathetic, consisting mainly of a few Ah Lau (old) candidates, so not surprising his party failed miserably in GE 2015.

The accountability is Pap on non oil export decline for past 2 years. Those names u mentioned are rich. Why they bother to answer to Pap s responsibility? U r asking the wrong people. The Voters did not vote for these people. These opposition people are happy to keep quiet.

Voters must look at the figures. The export figures and the debt govt ow. These figures are available in cia or wiki.

Good or bad judgement sometimes can be guessed in sg. Examples: CEO for Tigerair and CEO for mrt. Tigerair CEO was a regional pharma sales manager, mrt was a auntie retailer selling to "contracted" tourists went by bus loads. Did they manage airline and mrt? That is what common sense judgement can tell.

The same applied to people from uniform groups. Prior to that, these scholars were promoted to high ranking before they graduated their first degree overseas.
They increased population by 2 millions foreigners expected the retailers would be the engine for gdp. Was the mass immigration policy a solution to sg economy? U can watch the problem if major retailers retrench workers when they cannot sustain the increased rental cost.
Why? Common sense again. Many local are pressed by cost similar to retailers. 1 fellow selling fish in super mar said to me, nowadays, people hardly buying fish. That is his observation in day in day out super mar. Not all vege sell fast too. Expensive ones are slow moving.
These are things we can measure that economy is not doing well. People have to save up by cents, not dollars only.

Back to your question that who are better than lihingleong. The first thing he needs to do is to answer this objectively. Is he the best? If not, how can he make sure Pap can come out the best team? No one can know the answer. Its the results we know from reports.

Those problems (and true enuff) are not only the problems of Singapore but literally world wide problems especially for now. Take a look also on other countries data as well.

Even china's growth is reduced even though it has such a huge population base and much resources at hand to play with.

Look at the 4 asian tigers.......now become 4 asian kitty.

A lot of people voted for PAP for the simple fact that they also not sure these "problems" will disappear if the opposition took control. So unless someone who has a proven portfolio and have enough resources to combat the regime. I think it is not possible to overtake the current regime unless there is a internal split.

This current wave of populism in other countries that is targeted not only at particular elites but at the very notion of elitism is very much driven by the middle class. That the middle class is willing to risk more uncertainties and instability by calling into question the system itself speaks to a breakdown of trust and a sense of there being not much else to lose.

The question now is not so much where the demagogues are leading the people, but where the people are leading the demagogues.

I like u raised some examples for comparison with sg.
China, tigers ie S Korea, Taiwan, these 2 are notable.
If someone tell u he is very rich, u check he stays in sentosa good class bungalow, drives merc and son drives bm, so u are likely to tell me, they are rich.
Not for me.
I do some measurement to see if his wealth is healthy. I look at how much he owes not how much he has now, or his company is doing well ie have customers. To look at a country, it is similar way. EU has a rule to ensure member country cannot runs deficit upto some %, and national debt cannot be more than 60% of GDP.

So lets look at Sg after these years of good look.
Economichelp.org has some sorted figures. Handy: Singapore debt 105% of GDP, world #13. Japan world #1.
China: world #134, HK#107, Taiwan#94, S Korea#106.

Among the known tigers, which countries are at risk? At risk means when their export are not earning foreign exchange, are they able to pay for the imports in the long run? These countries owing high % of national debts can only print more money to pay for their imports. Can printing be done forever with improving export?

China S Korean are not worry for export slow because their debts are very low. They dont pay interest much in budget. Sg is not have the room to shake legs. To wait for voters to decide. I dont know what will happen when there is crisis like terrorist attacks which had such risk with Blangali workers as potential. Besides Bangali, those who in hiding are not showing up with better quality than construction workers.
Once, there is attack, there will be rush on movement of funds and the rich. The sg finances may not be that stable to take impact and wait for tourists to come back.
Tourism down with export, citizens can be very difficult to see their cpf. Minimum sums bound to go up. This is the effect i guess from the high national debt and poor export.

Exactly like what you write and thanks for going precise to the point and data provision.

Now the question is as a Sinkie, i also want more natural resources (free oil, water, gold etc). I also want to get rid of the casino and 100% tourists/foreigners or whatever and put more manufacturing jobs (such as getting all Boeing and Airbus parts or plane to be manufactured here). With 5 million population maybe 700kmsq area and nothing on hand.

Tell us how exactly on how do we do it? or which country that will be close to our predicament as such that we can compare? I mean arent it back to square one as arent it is the best for us to be given a choice to choose our place of birth which we cant?

I mean logically speaking, for a country of Singapore who have no resources (not even rice). I expect Singapore to survive more on printing money compare to a country with larger land mass and bigger population in theory.

"I expect Singapore to survive more on printing money compare to a country with larger land mass and bigger population in theory."
It cannot be done for Sg. If printing money is in excess, the $ value cannot maintain at the fixed exchange rate Mas wants. To understand it, let say printed money is like toilet papers, how is Mas gonna buy back excessive "toilet papers" to increase exchange value of the remaining stock?
Exporting services or products to exchange other countries money is the only workable way for sg to import goods the people need. It also meant people must work hard to sell something to other countries. Importers must be able to use the products or services.

That actually was not difficult. GKS started Jurong industries. But the industries were not properly managed by his successors. Example: harddisk was good quality with seagate in early years. But seagate moved to china. Creative sound card was innovative, but Mr Sim moved to China. They dont trust to produce their NEW models in sg, do u notice that? Mr Sim had said, he dare not to make sg the first plant to make sound cards. U will notice that many industries have the scholars hands. Even foods industries, some were bought over by state owned firms, and eventually, the original bosses were gone. Some scholars took over, and the factory ended up sold.

The key word is: the state related enterprises wld come in to "gain" from private initiatives. Then the bosses of start-up wld give up eventually. Then the end. The state has money to do that. The scholars are not the innovative enterprises starters. State enterprices have the money to gain control. That is the reason behind sg has no samsung. Samsung cannot survive in sg if started in sg.

On the other hand, sg has blind belief on cheaper labor cost. The minister equate malaysians pinoys indians abilities as replacement of citizens. Some of these foreigners came with master degrees or phd, locals hardly gone into such level when not needed. That kind of state policy has increased the pmet number by at least close to 700k. I estimate 400k E/s passes, and 300-500k PR. Many sg good engineers, administrators, marketeers lost their positions in about 10 to 15yrs after they reached 40s 50s. That is another way to ensure no continuity, even the firms have not moved away.

This policy was another blow to the local industries. Investors moved out when rental went up more than 100%, and new staff they hired were fake degree holders. 1 firm paid $12k for a o level fake US master holder, became a court case. Now this firm ran into difficulty. i saw complaints abt the firm. The structure was badly affected when govt allow free flow of foreigner pmets and local bosses were caught unaware of the risk.

This free flow of middle class staff was similar to geylang pros lining up on the streets, causing slow traffic nightly. Far too excessive and firms kept them by offering cheaper and cheaper salaries. The scholars thought they had gotten lowest cost in labor and could help developer to increase rental by 100 to 200%. The plan was a total upset. Its a no U turn plan.

To compete with the 4 tigers, continuity of technology and know how is an important factor. Sg did not do it. It uprooted. Even in casino, good gambler staff must be kept and eventually export them to other new branches. That is exporting services. But sg s way is: state retires the good local. Allow massive hiring of foreigners, some hire the fakes. That exercise ends up "made in singapore" is not reliable. U must measure what i had explained. Try to buy "made in singapore" see if the product works better than other tigers.

Sg has no resources, but human resource only. Did sg value their brain power? Did the scholars pushed them to drive taxi?
Some voters have begun to understand the situations better as they became more involved. The hope may be in future ge. Or continue to vote for the same army generals to play with them. Voters vote for the rulers to rule them. No complaint.

@ Anon 10:07 pm

Exactly and precisely again on what you say.

Wah lau, of course Singapore cannot print money. i am saying in theory, in practical sense, how to?

Then what else can it do? To make use of local labor supply.

I also know. But i been to China. Cannot compete, those days if you put in 8 hrs work, they put in 10 hrs, if you put in 10 hrs, they put in 12 hrs. At the end of the day, their salary cost then is much much less than 1/2. No matter what US, Europe and Asia do, the manufacturing jobs just go to them as they are just much cheaper.

Everything they produce, cost is much lower then. On top of this, their rental cost is also much lower there. Probably their fake US master there is RMB 12K (can even negotiate further) which is much lower than Singapore SGD12k....

I also value the brain power here. Unless there are ways to lower our cost (increase productivity - so far fail again) or somehow china cost become higher (it is happening quite rapidly). Otherwise how do we compete with a giant magnet under globalization. Another way out is to manufacture something that is unique that others cannot manufacture or copy. So far even US and Japan are not 100% successful with their resources and you expect Singapore to succeed. Maybe it did in certain area but cannot cover all sectors and brain power.

Look at China property prices overall. It is getting more expensive and getting irritating in the coastal cities. This will bring pressure to their salary increment which will in a way decrease their competitiveness over time. Isnt this the path following Singapore model in the 80s? After that what happen which you and me know. The only difference is China people still can move west ward where we cannot. However it is a matter of time.
