It is reported in the Business Times today that Abe Shinzo has announced a 30% pay cut for himself as a symbolic gesture to cut cost. And all his ministers will take a 10% pay cut.
I think they are all very rich so they can afford to take paycuts.

Because they need to be paid those inflated salaries to prevent them from being tempted by corruption.
welcome to the blog. it is a pleasant surprise to see a non asian face here. but you are most welcome and i am sure everyone here will enjoy your views.
i hope you will not be annoyed by my cynicism at times. and i hope everyone will bear with me as they are meant to be provocative to lure out more contentious views.
and thank you anonymous, for your cynicism. i like that.
I didn't mean it to be cynical. That was the whole raison d'etre which Singaporeans have sickeningly been fed for a long time as to why high slaries for public office holders is necessary.
singaporeans are mainly of chinese stock, very compliant. tell them anything they will also believe. if they don't they will only grumble a bit, quietly without letting anyone knows. that's why no protest on the streets : )
Exactly. No way a revolution is going to happen here, that's for sure. Not when all the levers of power are in the hands of a close circle within one family. So, Singie peasants, fall in line and quit bitching. :-)
the taiwanese think they are japanese. did you listen to what jackie chan said about taiwanese? it is now an international joke.
taiwan is a country ran by warlords and now by the triads. look at their parliament and you will know why.
and there will be no revolution in singapore. that i agree. i have just thought about a hypothesis of what singapore should be and i will put it out on sat.

That doesn't make any sense. Taiwan has a very robust democracy and the Taiwanese people are not anywhere near compliant.
Singporeans are just so kiasi. All you have to do is to treaten them with jail or being sued and they will swallow their principles and fall in line.
